Chapter Thirty-Six: Acting In Feigned Death
Seriously injured, Peter was secretly hidden by Norton to heal his wounds. Peter was taken to the secret base that Norton had created in this universe. Norton asked, "Peter, do you mind if I release the information about your death?" In the original storyline, the growth of Miles was inseparable from Peter's death. Certainly, Norton would not disclose Peter's real identity.
"Definitely no problem, I believe you," said Peter, wrapped like a mummy on the hospital bed. Norton barely heard what he said. Only the Meiben couple and Mary Jane knew the real situation. Even though they were aware of Peter's true identity in this universe, they had to continue the act.
"Okay, just stay here and recuperate quietly. Your dear MJ will come to see you." Peter couldn't heal quickly enough to fight. For now, Norton could handle the rest.
The next day, the news of Spider-Man's death spread throughout the streets, and everyone knew it. The people mourned silently for the hero who had saved them, and all of New York was in mourning.
Norton visited a Spider-Man merchandise store and saw a sad Miles inside. "Miles, are you okay?" Norton still had to act, so he pretended to be ignorant. Miles was blaming himself; he felt he had done nothing to help. He lowered his head and said, "I'm fine, thank you, Norton." "See you later," Miles said as he left after buying a Spider-Man costume.
Norton was about to leave for a walk when the store manager stopped him. "Wow, hello, Wonder Boy." The store manager, resembling Stan Lee, greeted him with a smile. "You know me?" Norton raised his eyebrows in surprise. He never expected that the old man, Stan Lee, who often played cameo roles in Marvel works, would know him.
"Definitely know," Stan Lee smiled and then walked towards a door. After entering, another man appeared. "I'm the manager of this store. May I help you?" the man asked Norton with an official smile. Norton frowned, estimating it would take some time to recover. Perhaps his arrival brought wonderful changes to the world.
"What I love most about Spider-Man is that he makes us all feel empowered. Each of us has our own powers. We play Spider-Man in our own way. We all need you," Mary Jane said from the podium. For Mary Jane, who was born an actress, these words were easy, but many believed them to be true, including Miles. "They all need me," Miles murmured to himself somewhat trustingly.
"Uh... I think it's just a polite remark, and you know it, it's a speech," said the elder brother, who was wearing a mask around Spider-Man, unable to help but complain after hearing this.
Miles naturally filters out his rants. He came to the alley and took out the Spider-Man cartoon, intending to learn the Spider-Man training method from it. "Huh," Miles exhaled nervously, glanced at the opposite rooftop, and planned to just jump over.
"If I were you, I would tie my shoelaces first." "Wow! Ah!" Miles was startled by the words that came out suddenly. He was running up and couldn't brake in time, and fell to the ground with his face on the ground. "Ah..." Miles massaged his sore face, and then noticed a familiar person sitting on the air conditioner.
"Ginger! Why are you here?" "If I wasn't here, what do you think you'd be doing here? Wearing Spider-Man merch and jumping off a building."
"Uh..." Miles scratched his face in embarrassment and then thought of Spider-Man, who would have a few good friends who knew their true identities. "Okay, Norton, speaking of it, don't be afraid. In fact, I was bitten by a radioactive spider. I became a person with the same ability as Spider-Man."
But Norton's reaction was beyond his expectation. "Hmm, not bad." Norton's face was as calm as water, as if he didn't believe this sentence. "Wait, don't you believe me?" "No, no, I really believe what you say." Norton still had that calm face, giving the impression that he was listening to a joke that wasn't funny.
"Okay, I have to leave beforehand, don't do such a dangerous move." Norton got up to leave, and he waved to Miles without looking back. But Miles didn't listen to Norton's words and still did the same thing, still didn't tie the shoelaces, and the ending was the same as the original one; the heavy-duty key was dropped to pieces.
At night, Miles came to the cemetery. There were countless flowers near a tombstone with "Unknown Hero Spider-Man" written on it. "Sorry, I thought I'd keep our promise, but... I haven't met another Spider-Man yet and broke something you gave me."
Just as Miles was blaming himself, a figure behind him came towards him. Miles felt it, put the mask on his head again, and then stretched his hands back. "Hey, boy!" Peter was caught off guard and flew backward. The web shooters fired cobwebs and flew out with Miles.
