Chapter 50 - Shadows Behind the Wedding

The days leading up to the wedding were a whirlwind of preparations.

Lisa helped Grace pick out a dress— a simple yet elegant gown that draped beautifully over her growing belly.

Joseph was in charge of the venue, making sure everything was set for the big day.

Felix handled the finances, ensuring everything was paid for without a word.

Xu Kai, Grace's husband-to-be, seemed excited about the wedding, but something about him still didn't sit right with Felix.

Lisa could sense it.

Felix wasn't the type to openly show concern, but she noticed how he watched Xu Kai carefully, analyzing every move, every word.

But Felix never spoke up.

Not yet.

Late at night, Felix sat alone in his room, scrolling through his phone.

Xu Kai had a past— one that Felix wasn't sure Grace knew about.

He had heard things. Seen things.

But Grace was already pregnant, already committed.

Would saying anything now even make a difference?

He tossed his phone onto the bed, sighing.

"It's not my business."

At least, that's what he kept telling himself.

Grace stood in front of the mirror, her hands resting on her belly.

She should be happy.

But at night, when she was alone, fear crept in.

Xu Kai had agreed to marry her, but was it out of love? Or just responsibility?

Would he stay? Would he change?

Or would he become the kind of man she feared most?

She wanted to trust him.

But something inside her whispered—

What if this is a mistake?

The night before the wedding, an unexpected knock on the door shattered the calm.

Lisa opened it, only to freeze.

Xu Kai stood there, smirking.

"Miss me?" he said, his voice dripping with arrogance.

Lisa's heart dropped.

Grace appeared behind her, and the moment she saw him, her face went pale.

"What are you doing here?" she demanded.

Xu Kai leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. "Came to give my congratulations. Heard you're getting married. Didn't think you'd move on so fast."

Grace clenched her fists. "What are you talking about? You're the one I'm marrying."

Xu Kai chuckled. "Oh, right. I keep forgetting. You were just some girl I had fun with before. Now I'm supposed to be a husband. Funny how life works, huh?"

Lisa felt her stomach twist.

Before she could say anything, Felix appeared at the staircase.

His presence alone sent a chill through the air.

"Get lost," Felix said coldly.

Xu Kai smirked but didn't move. "Still acting like the big boss, huh? Fine. I'll leave. But Grace… don't expect me to change overnight."

With that, he turned and walked away.

But his words left a heavy weight behind.

Because deep down, Grace feared he might be right.
