Kael's POV
The wind bit at my face, sharp and unforgiving. The lingering chill from the broken-down car was starting to get overwhelming.
Ava narrowed her eyes at me, her sharp gaze cutting through the cold when I told her to phone Arden.
"Arden?" she repeated, as if she hadn't heard me clearly. "Wasn't he abroad? Studying? Isn't that why he left the pack?"
I met her questioning stare with a firm one of my own.
"Just do as I say, Ava. You ask too many questions."
She opened her mouth to retort, but her gaze shifted to Kellan. The look on his face must have said enough because, surprisingly, she didn't press further. That was a first. Ava usually wouldn't let anything slide without getting the answers she wanted.
"He's the only one we can trust for now," I added, cutting the silence. "If we don't want to alert the entire pack, Arden is our best shot."
