Chapter 31 - Forging Strength

The academy grounds buzzed with anticipation for the upcoming monthly exam. Students darted between training arenas and lecture halls, their conversations laced with a mix of excitement and anxiety. For many, the exam was a checkpoint, a measure of their progress. But for Aidan, it was more a proving ground. With Hope's evolution and his own advancement to the Red Stage, Aidan carried the weight of his ambitions. He had come far, but he knew that to survive and thrive, he would need to push himself even harder.

Morning Training: Pushing Limits

Aidan's day began before the first rays of sunlight pierced the horizon. The crisp morning air bit at his skin as he stood in the training yard, his breath forming small clouds in the cold. Hope padded beside him, his newly evolved form exuding raw power. The stormy gray fur streaked with vibrant blue lightning patterns shimmered faintly in the dim light, a testament to the young wolf's newfound strength.

"Alright, Hope," Aidan said, rolling his shoulders and shaking off the early morning chill. "Let's see what we can really do now."

The training regimen was relentless. Aidan started with agility drills, weaving through an intricate obstacle course while Hope mirrored his movements. The bond skill, now enhanced to include partial emotional synchronization, made their coordination almost supernatural. Aidan could sense Hope's intentions, allowing them to anticipate each other's actions with uncanny precision. They moved as one, darting between barriers, leaping over hurdles, and landing in perfect unison.

Next came combat practice. Aidan gripped his training sword, its weight familiar and comforting in his hands. He focused on the Flickering Shadow Steps, a movement art for sword wielding users designed for unpredictability in battle. Each step was a blur, his figure seeming to flicker in and out of existence as he attacked the reinforced dummies. The intermediate sword manual he had received after his recent breakthrough added a layer of complexity to his strikes, demanding both precision and fluidity.

Breaking through to the Red Stage had unlocked a reservoir of energy within Aidan. Unlike before, when he had to pace himself to avoid exhaustion, he now trained with relentless intensity. His stamina seemed boundless, and he pushed himself to the brink, determined to maximize every second of his efforts.

Combat drills with Hope followed. The young wolf's Thunder Dash skill was breathtaking to witness, Hope became a streak of lightning, striking with blinding speed before vanishing and reappearing in another location. The wolf's claws, now imbued with thunder energy, tore through the reinforced dummies with ease. Sparks flew with every strike, the air around them crackling with static.

By the time the sun climbed high into the sky, Aidan was drenched in sweat, his muscles screaming in protest and Hope was also panting a lot. Yet, he couldn't help but smile. Each movement felt sharper, each strike more precise. Together, he and Hope were becoming a force to be reckoned with.

After a quick meal to replenish his energy, Aidan headed to the lecture hall. His homeroom instructor, Professor Maren, was leading a session on combat tactics. Aidan couldn't help but compare her to Professor Marlon even though they both were teaching different subjects. Her warm and engaging teaching style was a stark contrast to Marlon's gruff directness. She often paused her lectures to encourage questions and discussions, making even complex topics feel accessible.

Today's lesson focused on adaptability in battle, a skill that could turn the tide in even the most dire situations.

"Raw strength and flashy techniques will only take you so far," Maren said, pacing the room with her characteristic energy. "A true warrior must be able to read their opponent, anticipate their moves, and exploit their weaknesses. Remember, a clever mind can outmatch brute force."

Aidan leaned forward in his seat, absorbing her words. He thought back to his previous battles, replaying them in his mind. He saw his mistakes with new clarity, the moments when he had relied too heavily on power and neglected strategy. Maren's lesson resonated deeply, and Aidan made a mental note to incorporate more tactical thinking into his training.

Between lectures, Aidan observed his peers, studying their strengths and weaknesses. He noted how some relied on brute strength while others favored speed or cunning. Every detail mattered, and Aidan was determined to use this knowledge to his advantage in the upcoming exam.

As the day wound down, Aidan made his way to the meditation chamber — a quiet sanctuary designed for tamers to refine their connection with their soul cores. The room was dimly lit, with soft, ambient light reflecting off the crystalline walls. A faint hum filled the air, the sound of energy resonating within the chamber.

Aidan sat cross-legged in the center of the room, his breathing steady as he focused inward. His soul core, now a deep crimson sphere, pulsed faintly in his mind's eye. The transformation to the Red Stage had been a profound milestone, but it was only the beginning. Each stage brought new challenges and responsibilities, and Aidan knew he had to refine his core daily to maintain control over its growing power.

Darius had been instrumental in guiding him through this process. His friend, though surprised by Aidan's rapid advancement, had shared invaluable insights — knowledge typically reserved for more experienced tamers. "The Red Stage is a turning point," Darius had said. "Your core is stronger, but it's also more volatile. Refining it daily will help you harness its full potential."

Aidan closed his eyes, focusing on the rhythmic pulse of his soul core. The energy within him felt like a roaring flame, powerful yet unpredictable. He guided the energy with deliberate precision, channeling it through his body and refining it into a steady, controlled flow. The process was exhausting, but each session left him feeling more attuned to his newfound strength.

Afterward, Aidan reflected on his journey. The challenges he had faced—the loss of his family, the trials at the academy, and the bond he had forged with Hope, had shaped him into the person he was today. But there was still so much more to achieve.

"What do you think, Hope?" Aidan asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The wolf, lying beside him with his head resting on his paws, let out a soft growl. Through their bond, Aidan felt a surge of reassurance and confidence. Whatever lay ahead, they would face it together.

As Aidan left the meditation chamber, the first stars began to twinkle in the night sky. He stood on the balcony overlooking the academy grounds, This has become his daily routine nowadays, the cool evening breeze brushing against his face. Hope stood beside him, his glowing eyes scanning the horizon. This scene always makes him relax involuntarily and he couldn't help but think what if his sister and his family were her with him.

He quickly rubbed his eyes which were getting a bit red. He knows he couldn't waste anytime in all of this, he has to grow strong and take revenge.

The monthly exam was only days away, and Aidan felt lot of determination. This was his chance to show how far he had come, to prove that he was more than just a student struggling to catch up. With Hope by his side and the strength of the Red Stage coursing through him, Aidan felt ready to take on whatever challenges awaited.

"This time I will aim for Rank 1 for sure. This is just the beginning," he murmured, his gaze fixed on the distant stars. "We've come a long way, Hope. But there's still so much more to do."

This same scene was occurring in other rooms as well where some wanted to progress more and others wanted to at least be in the same position.

At one of the room Lina stood with her dual blades at both of her hands.

"This time I will surely defeat all of you. Just you wait. Especially you Darius" said Lina with determination.
