Chapter 37 - Wrath of the Thunder God

"Clang! Clang!"

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Three spears of the Midnight Proxima were hurled one after another, striking the Thunder Shield in front of Thor and promptly bouncing off.

"Yahhh!!!"

As the spears were deflected, Corvus Glaive charged at Thor, roaring as he swung his mighty blade straight for Thor's neck.

"Whoosh—"

"Clang!!"

Thor, facing the attack from Corvus Glaive, remained calm. Gripping Stormbreaker firmly in his hands, he swung it with tremendous force, creating a gust of wind as his godly power surged.

In the next instant, electric arcs nearly a meter long burst forth from Stormbreaker. With a single slash, Thor's axe collided with Corvus Glaive's weapon.

"Crack!"

With a sharp "crack," Corvus Glaive's weapon shattered on impact. Stormbreaker, unstoppable in its momentum, followed through and separated Corvus Glaive's head from his body in one swift motion.

"Die!!!"

Proxima Midnight, holding her spear, witnessed Corvus Glaive's gruesome death at Thor's hands. Enraged beyond reason, her eyes turned blood-red. Letting out a furious scream, she charged at Thor with her spear aimed directly at him.

"Clang!"

"Ha!!"

Electricity still crackled along the blade of Stormbreaker. Thor swung it once more, first deflecting Proxima Midnight's spear before swiftly delivering a follow-up strike that cleanly decapitated her as well.

"My Lord?"

From afar, Ebony Maw, hiding in the shadows, saw Thor slay two of their generals in quick succession and grow stronger with every strike. Alarmed, he turned to look at Thanos for instructions. However, he suddenly realized with a start that Thanos, who had been standing right beside him, had disappeared without a trace!

"Whoosh!"

Thor had just slain Proxima Midnight when he heard the sharp whistle of something cutting through the air toward him.

"Clang!"

Reacting instantly, Thor raised his axe to block the incoming attack. A massive blade, shaped like a ship's oar, clashed with Stormbreaker and was deflected away. Yet the blade, after flying some distance, suddenly veered back and disappeared into the dust and smoke ahead.

Thor, seeing this unusual behavior, narrowed his eyes and focused his gaze forward. Gradually, a shadowy figure emerged from the dust—it was none other than Thanos himself.

"Thanos!!!!"

Thor had come here with one goal: to take down Thanos. After spending so much time clearing the battlefield of the Black Order and their troops, his frustration was at its peak.

The moment Thor saw Thanos, he could no longer contain himself. Without hesitation, he charged toward Thanos, spinning his body mid-run to build momentum, and then swung Stormbreaker in a devastating horizontal strike.

Electricity surged from the axe, its arcs reaching over two meters high, a testament to the immense power it carried!

Thanos, however, remained calm in the face of Thor's ferocious assault. With precision and composure, he raised his massive sword, the Titan Slayer, and met Stormbreaker head-on.

"Boom!!"

The axe and the sword collided with a deafening explosion, forcing both Thor and Thanos to retreat three or four steps each. The clash ended in a stalemate!

"Son of Odin! When have I ever wronged you? Why have you come here to slaughter my people?"

Thanos was the first to speak, trying to seize the moral high ground.

"Spare me your words!!!"

Thor was deaf to Thanos's argument, his focus singularly on severing Thanos's head. He ignored the plea and began swinging Stormbreaker madly, one relentless strike after another aimed at Thanos.

"Bang! Bang!"

"Yah! Bang!"

"Ha! Bang!"

"Hah! Bang!"

Facing Thor's wild and desperate onslaught, Thanos felt increasingly cornered. Reluctant to fight Thor at full strength due to his lingering fear of Odin, Thanos held back, opting for a defensive strategy. But this proved to be a mistake. With each clash, Thor's attacks grew fiercer and more unrelenting, forcing Thanos onto the back foot.

"Die!!!!"

Thor's single-minded fury, combined with his unyielding strikes, left Thanos in a dire situation. The longer the battle dragged on, the greater the risk for Thanos. If nothing changed, Thor would likely succeed in decapitating him within a hundred strikes.

"Son of Odin! You leave me no choice!"

Thanos, growing desperate and enraged, let out a furious shout. Just then, Cull Obsidian leaped into the fray, wielding an enormous war hammer identical to the one Thor had destroyed earlier. Without hesitation, Cull Obsidian swung it heavily at Thor.

"Boom!!"

Cull Obsidian's immense strength was among the greatest in the universe. Thor couldn't simply ignore him. Forced to block the incoming blow, Thor raised Stormbreaker to meet the hammer. Though Thor deflected the strike with ease, the brief distraction gave Thanos the breathing room he needed.

Taking advantage of the momentary reprieve, Thanos steadied himself. Though Thor quickly dispatched Cull Obsidian with a single furious strike, the momentum Thor had built up earlier was now lost. Thanos seized the opportunity to go on the offensive.

With a determined expression, Thanos took a deep breath and gripped his Titan Slayer tightly. He began attacking Thor in a relentless series of heavy strikes. Now on the defensive, Thor could only block, as any attempt to retaliate would leave him vulnerable to injury.

But defense has its limits. Thor, still affected by Ebony Maw's psychic interference, was unable to fight at full strength. As a result, his power and speed lagged behind Thanos's. It didn't take long before Thor was in serious trouble, narrowly avoiding several fatal blows from the Titan Slayer.

"Son of Odin! Surrender now, and I may yet spare your life!"

Initially, Thanos had been furious and fully intended to kill Thor. However, seeing the God of Thunder struggling to hold his ground, a new idea occurred to him: perhaps he could use Thor as leverage to negotiate with Odin for the Tesseract.

With this thought in mind, Thanos began to try persuading Thor.

"Never!! The warriors of Asgard fight to the death—we do not surrender!"

Thor gritted his teeth and roared back, refusing to yield. At the same time, he cursed Ebony Maw inwardly for weakening him with his telekinetic interference. If not for that meddling, how could he possibly be struggling against Thanos?

As the words left his mouth, Cull Obsidian, who had remained on the sidelines, suddenly launched a surprise attack. Leaping high into the air, he aimed a crushing blow at Thor.

It was the same interference from Cull Obsidian that had turned the tide of the battle earlier. This time, Thor was utterly enraged. With a deafening roar, he unleashed all his remaining strength and swung Stormbreaker upward to meet the incoming hammer.

"Hahhhhhh!!!!"

"Boom!!"

The impact was catastrophic. Cull Obsidian was sent flying like a cannonball, disappearing into the distance in an instant.

"Whoosh—"

"Arghhh!!"

Though Thor managed to eliminate Cull Obsidian with his ferocious counterattack, the distraction gave Thanos the perfect opportunity. Capitalizing on the opening, Thanos swung his blade with precision, slicing deep into Thor's left leg. The wound cut straight to the bone, drawing a pained howl from Thor.

Had Thanos not intentionally held back, that strike could have bisected Thor entirely.

"Surrender, Son of Odin!"

Thanos repeated his demand, his voice filled with authority.

"Never!!"

Thor growled back through gritted teeth, his mind racing for a way out of this dire predicament.
