Chapter 1 - Call to Battle

The sound of mechanical keyboards filled the room like a chaotic melody. The national team's training hall was vast, illuminated by white neon lights, with rows of computers lined up in perfect symmetry. Monitors flickered as players simulated battles, analyzed moves, and practiced coordination.

Liu Cheng sat in the corner, his eyes fixed on a screen full of graphs, video replays, and statistics. His fingers flew across the keyboard, jotting down notes.

"Cheng, stuck in your numbers again?" Yu Feng's voice cut through the clatter of keyboards. He was one of the team's veterans, known for his relaxed but fearless attitude.

Liu looked up. "Analysis is crucial," he replied calmly, trying to sound more confident than he felt.

Yu Feng chuckled, crossing his arms. "Crucial? Maybe. But numbers won't save your skin when the enemy's breathing down your neck. You'd better get ready for the real fight."

Liu bit his lip, forcing himself to ignore the comment. He knew many in the team doubted him. He was the youngest, a rookie, and his contributions were strategic, not practical. But he also knew he'd get his chance to prove his worth.

The training hall doors swung open, interrupting their exchange. Captain Shen Hao entered with his unmistakable aura of authority. His presence filled the room.

"Everyone, gather around," he said sharply, his voice cutting through the noise.

The players assembled around the central table. Shen held a tablet in his hand, his face serious.

"We've received the official invitation to the World Invitational," he announced. His voice was calm, but every team member could feel the weight of his words.

There was a brief silence before the room erupted in chatter.

"Really?" one player exclaimed.

"Switzerland?" added another.

"Finally, a chance to show what we're made of," Yu Feng said with a confident grin.

Shen Hao raised a hand, and the room fell silent. "This is an opportunity we cannot waste. This isn't just another tournament. This is the stage where the best play for honor and history."

Liu Cheng felt a pressure in his chest. The invitation meant more than just a chance to play. For him, it was a moment to prove his worth, not just to the team but to himself.

"However," Shen Hao continued, "only those who excel in the upcoming training sessions will make the starting lineup. This includes everything – from tactics to in-game performance."

Shen's eyes met Liu Cheng's. "Cheng, your strategic insights are impressive. But I need to see you bring them to the field. I need to know you can make decisions under pressure."

Liu nodded, though he couldn't hide his nerves. "Understood, Captain."

After the Meeting

As everyone dispersed, the hall grew quieter, save for the occasional hum of machines. Liu Cheng stayed behind at his computer. His thoughts were in turmoil. How can I prove I'm more than just an analyst?

"Still here?" a voice startled him out of his thoughts. He looked up to see Captain Shen Hao standing beside him, arms crossed.

"Yeah," Liu replied. "I think I have more work to do."

Shen Hao sat down in the chair next to him. "You know, Cheng, being part of a team isn't just about knowledge or talent. You need heart. Without that, the team will never follow you, no matter how smart you are."

"I'm working on it," Liu said quietly.

"Good," Shen said, standing up. "But remember, your spot isn't guaranteed. You'll have to fight for it."

Closing Scene

Late that night, long after everyone had left, Liu Cheng remained alone in the hall. His screen was lit, displaying a replay of a simulated match.

A timing error.

Liu paused the video, leaning back in his chair and rubbing his eyes. He knew where the problem was, but he wasn't sure how to fix it. He took a deep breath, then leaned forward again.

"I won't let this be my story," he whispered. His hands returned to the keyboard, ready to find the perfect move.

While his teammates slept, Liu Cheng kept searching for answers. For him, the night had only just begun.
