The following few days passed without any incident. After Reed found time to have several meals with Alton, he continued to exercise as usual.
Secretary Vera, who was supposed to give lessons to Theo, had already come several times.
Originally, he had been forced to arrange to study together.
However, with Reed deliberately feigning madness and playing the fool, he managed to muddle through this matter.
This made Vic scold him again.
Nevertheless, Reed had figured out Vic's temper in these past few days.
He still loved this eldest son very much. Every time he scolded him, it was always more bark than bite.
As a result, Reed became even more unrestrained. Let him scold if he wanted to. Anyway, it wouldn't cost him anything.
On this day, just as he put down his chopsticks and bowls, someone came in a hurry to report,"Eldest Young Master, the mayor asks you to go and see him right now."
Reed raised his eyebrows and said,"What? What excuse has he come up with this time to make me learn those boring things? I'm not going."
"Er..."
The battle of wits between father and son in these past few days had already become the talk among their subordinates.
Although they only dared to think about it in their hearts.
The servant looked rather embarrassed and coughed softly twice before saying,"Master really has something to talk to you about this time. You'd better go there."
Seeing that his attitude didn't seem to be fake, Reed then got up and walked towards Vic's residence.
As soon as Reed stepped into the room, he saw that Vic had a solemn expression. His usually majestic face now seemed to be shrouded in a layer of gloom.
Reed felt amused in his heart and couldn't help joking,"Oh, what's going on? Which deity has made our great Mayor Chu uncomfortable? Look at that expression. It's really not common. But then again, in this Kalai City, who would be so bold as to provoke you, a big shot like you?"
Vic gave him a fierce glare and said angrily,"Stop being so disrespectful here. Sit properly!"
Seeing him like this, Reed knew in his heart that there was probably really a thorny matter, so he put away his usual casual look, sat properly on the sofa, and quietly waited for Vic to speak.
Vic coughed softly and said slowly,"We're really in trouble this time. News has come from below that someone is inquiring about the affairs on the West Mountain again."
Hearing this, Reed frowned slightly. Many thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant, and he blurted out,"Could it be those guys from the Lane Group who are up to something again?"
Vic shook his head, his expression growing even graver as he said in a low voice,"This doesn't seem quite the same. I heard from my men that when that person came, he was carrying an official identity card from the capital."
Reed's eyes lit up and he immediately perked up, saying with great interest,"Oh? That's really interesting. How come even people from the capital have been alerted? I thought those guys always thought too highly of themselves and had always looked down on our little place. Could it be that there's really some incredible secret hidden on that MA - 1?"
Vic looked up at Reed, his eyes full of worry as he asked earnestly,"You haven't caused any trouble these days, have you?"
Reed patted his chest and promised,"What trouble could I cause? I've been behaving myself all along, nice and quiet."
Vic nodded slightly and his expression relaxed a bit. Then he continued,"It's good that you haven't. I mentioned to you last time that there's a group of restless elements in the neighboring Leian City, and it's said that these people also have intricate connections with the capital."
Reed looked bewildered, scratched his head and said doubtfully,"No, when did you tell me about this? I don't have any impression of it at all."
Vic was also taken aback and thought carefully for a moment. On the day he came back, he had called Reed into the study and was supposed to tell him about this matter in detail. But the kid interrupted him, and before he could finish speaking, he had run off and disappeared. After that, every time they met, he was so angry with Reed that in the heat of the moment, he had completely forgotten about this matter.
He said rather peevishly,"That's not the point!"
Vic paused for a moment and then went on,"Fortunately, it seems that you've restrained your temper a lot now. You know, things are not peaceful outside. I'm just worried that if you keep running around everywhere, you might accidentally run into that group of rebels and then something unexpected might happen. That would be really troublesome."
As Vic spoke, he touched his nose uncomfortably, looking a bit embarrassed.
"The situation in Leian City is really bad now. That rebel force should not be underestimated. I've heard that they've already thrown the whole city into chaos. Now Leian City has even lost contact. I don't know if it has been occupied by those rebels or not."
Reed's eyes widened. What era was it? With such advanced technology, how could a city lose contact? It was just too unbelievable. Wasn't it a bit too surreal?
Reed thought for a moment and then asked,"Should we send people to offer support?"
Vic, however, waved his hand and said in a cold tone,"That's not necessary. The position of the mayor goes to the capable. We just need to take good care of our own little corner. Let's mind our own business and stay out of other people's affairs."
Reed looked at Vic, his eyes full of disbelief, thinking to himself: What kind of reasoning is this? They are all cities in the same country. How can one be so indifferent?
However, Reed quickly realized that this place was different from the world in his previous life.
Each city had a high degree of autonomy. Generally speaking, as long as the fundamental interests of the country were not affected, things happening within a city were resolved internally by itself.
No wonder Vic could have so much power and control everything in Calais City.
Since the mayor of Leian City hadn't sent out a distress signal, it meant that the situation was still within their controllable range, and it was indeed inconvenient for other cities to interfere without permission.
Reed was vaguely worried and asked with a frown,"Will those people sneak into our place?"
He didn't want them to come and make trouble, disturbing his carefree life.
Vic shook his head slightly and comforted him,"Probably not. But I've already sent more people to patrol and defend. Don't worry."
Hearing that, Reed breathed a sigh of relief, leaned back on the sofa and said nonchalantly,"That's good. As long as it doesn't affect my own life, I don't care how chaotic it is outside."
Just then, Butler Joseph hurried over, looking a bit anxious as he said,"Master, there are guests visiting our home."
Vic frowned and asked,"Who are they?"
Butler Joseph shook his head and said,"The visitors didn't say, but they were carrying official identity cards from the capital."
As he spoke, he handed a metal card to Vic.
Vic took the card and carefully examined the symbol on it.
On the dark-golden metal card, there was a complicated red pattern.
His complexion changed slightly and he said in a low voice,"Yes, it's indeed the official identification card from the capital city of Denalis."
