Chapter 20 - Sky - breaking Project

Vic's heart sank when he saw the token. He smiled and said,"Naturally. But if we really have to go to the Dark Abyss Forest, there are still many things to prepare. We'll need a few days."

"Hahaha, that's fine. Then I'll give you three days to prepare. We'll set off three days from now.

Since everything has been made clear, we won't bother you any longer. Farewell!" With that, Professor Edwin and Rad got up and were about to leave.

Vic and Reed also stood up and saw them off. They watched as the two drove away in a silver flying car.

Reed looked at the familiar silver flying car and murmured,"So it's them. No wonder they're so arrogant!"

Vic looked at Reed in confusion and asked,"What?"

"Oh, not long ago, I saw a silver flying car dashing around at low altitude and it even caused an air traffic accident. If I'm not mistaken, the silver flying car back then is the same one they're driving now!" Reed pointed at the silver flying car flying away in the distance and said casually.

"Humph, these people are used to being arrogant in the capital. Naturally, they won't have any scruples in this small city of Carley." Then he turned around and went back inside the house.

Then he said to Butler Joseph,"Send someone to find out where they're staying and have people keep an eye on their movements in the next few days."

"Yes." Butler Joseph replied and then withdrew.

Reed looked at Vic and said,"Are we really going to do as they say? It's the Dark Abyss Forest! That's not a good place at all! And I always have a feeling that there's something wrong with those two."

Vic raised his eyebrows and said,"What's wrong? Let's hear your thoughts!"

"That Sky - breaking Project you mentioned doesn't sound like a small - scale project. For such a huge project to be restarted, even if the political parties in the capital are at odds, it's impossible that they would only send two people. They're definitely not telling the truth! And whether they're really from the capital or not is also a question. Maybe these two are just swindlers from somewhere!" Reed expressed his deep suspicion of the two.

"Hahaha, excellent, excellent. You're making your father more and more satisfied! You're really my son." Vic laughed with satisfaction.

"Hey, don't just laugh! You don't really believe those two's lies, do you?"

Vic didn't rush to answer. Instead, he asked,"Reed, do you know what the Sky - breaking Project is?"

Reed shook his head honestly and replied,"I don't know. But from what that old man said, it should be something about space exploration, I guess."

"Yes, it's indeed about outer space exploration. After the turmoil fifty years ago, all the latest information on aerospace development in the whole country was destroyed. There was a break in the knowledge of aerospace, and the pace of people's exploration of outer space came to a standstill."

"The turmoil fifty years ago? What exactly was it?" Reed asked.

"I'm not really sure either. I was just a child at that time. I only knew that there were strange phenomena in the sky and on the earth, and then a lot of advanced high-tech knowledge was damaged. Later, that incident became the top secret.

Even now that I'm the mayor of Carley City, I don't have the authority to know what exactly happened back then.

Perhaps one day when we can make further progress, we'll have a chance to find out what really happened that year!" Vic said, with undying fighting spirit in his eyes.

Seeing him like this, Reed's heart sank. It seemed that his cheap father was an ambitious man.

Could he still live a carefree life in retirement?

Then he thought that the matter at hand hadn't been resolved yet. Why was he thinking so much?

Looking at his father, he asked again, "Are we really going to the Dark Abyss Forest?"

"Yes, we'll go. Not only that, we'll go there in person this time and have a look!" Vic replied without hesitation.

"What? Aren't you afraid that those two are swindlers? Besides, although they put it nicely that they came to ask us for help, look at their arrogant manner. It was clearly ordering us!" Reed looked very indignant.

"The identities of these two people should be fine. It's just that their reason for going to look for some new energy is a bit far-fetched. However, there must be something really important in the Dark Abyss Forest that makes them take such a big risk."

Thinking of the token that Professor Edwin showed him when he left, Vic finally said with a bitter smile, "Even if we don't want to go, we can't help it. Professor Edwin has the identity token of the president in his hands. Seeing the token is like seeing the president himself. We must do as he asks. Otherwise, I really won't be able to be the mayor of Carley City anymore!"

Then he comforted Reed and said, "All right, don't think too much. Since these two people dare to venture into the Dark Abyss Forest, they must have something to rely on. As long as we prepare thoroughly, our chances of getting out of there alive are still quite high.

Be optimistic, son. Maybe we can have unexpected gains on this trip!

That's the mysterious Dark Abyss Forest. I've also wanted to go in and see what secrets are hidden inside for a long time.

You go back and have a good rest first. We'll set off together in three days."

"What? I have to go too? I don't agree!" Reed refused.

He wouldn't go and ask for trouble for no reason.

In his previous life, he had taken on many missions deep in primitive forests. Those were not places for people to stay.

Moreover, there are legendary ancient creatures in this Dark Abyss Forest, which will only make it even more dangerous.

There was no way he would go with them! He wouldn't go even if it meant death.

"Hey! How dare you disobey me! Since I'm going, you must follow too. Consider it a test for you." Vic glared and said with his beard trembling.

"If you want to test someone, go test your second son whom you have high hopes for. I won't follow you guys and ask for trouble." Reed looked completely unconcerned.

"He's only twelve years old. What are you thinking? You're already eighteen, which means you're an adult. If you don't follow me, the family won't give you a penny anymore. You can get out and live on your own!" Vic pretended to be angry.

"All right then!" Reed walked towards the door.

"Where are you going?" Vic looked at his actions, full of confusion.

"Didn't you say I should get out? I'm going out now. While it's still not dark, I'll see where it's suitable to find a place to live." Reed looked innocent.

Vic was so angry at his words that he was speechless.

After taking a deep breath, he randomly picked up a pillow on the sofa and threw it directly at Reed.

Although the pillow didn't come with much force, Reed wouldn't just wait to be hit. He turned his body and easily dodged it.

Reed still had the nerve to say, "Ah! You missed! Dad, it seems you're getting old. You couldn't hit me even from such a short distance. With your skills like this, I think you'd better stay at home obediently and stop running around with them!"

Now Vic was really furious. "You little brat! Do you want to reach for the sky? I'll teach you a lesson."

With that, he even bent down to take off his shoes without caring about his image.

Seeing that the old man was really angry, Reed quickly ran away as fast as he could.
