Chereads / The Supers (2011) / Chapter 10 - 9

Chapter 10 - 9

In the base of the W.R.E.X Base, Tarmac enters Paxton's office.

Tarmac: Anything on the neon Enhuman?

Paxton: Nothing yet, sir.....but we'll catch her...you know; we could just always interrogate her family....

Tarmac: Her sister and father are deputies.....they wouldn't even know where the hell she was even if they knew with their tracking criminals down.....anyways, the girl won't matter....as long as we still have our one valuable asset detained.

Paxton: With all due respect, sir, how long will that be?

Tarmac: Don't worry, Lieutenant.....no one knows where we're keeping him.

In the garden, Arianna is using her powers to grow flowers as Eva looks on and nods.

Eva: You know that's cheating at gardening.

Arianna: How in the bloody hell is using your powers cheating? I could just have it rain, you know?

Eva: What? And miss the chance to wear this nice hat and sip lemonade? I'll pass.

The women laugh as Trisha approaches the woman.

Trisha: Hey, guys.

Arianna: Hey, Trisha!

Trisha: Wow! This is your garden?! This is amazing!

Arianna: Thanks! Eva mostly helps out!

Trisha: since your power and codename is similar to Mother Nature herself, did you-

Arianna: Plant these myself. Sure did, love. You garden back home?

Trisha: Um....my sister does....but I help her sometimes.

Arianna: Your mom garden most of the time?

Trisha: Actually....my mom is....

Arianna: Oh....oh, honey, I'm sorry....I-I didn't mean to-

Trisha: It's fine.....my Dad told me she was a gardener...

Eva: Well, tell you what; maybe someday, anytime you'd like to get away from the young ones, you're welcome to come by and give me and Arianna a hand....

Trisha: Sure!

Trisha begins to help Arianna and Eva in the garden while inside the mansion on the Omega level, John is looking at Trisha socializing as James is using his fidgeting with his armor, which is laid down on the table.

James: Why are you watching the girl, James?

John: What?

James: You and the doc have been watching and studying the girl 24/7.

John: The kid's making a lot of new friends and she's already passed levels one, two and three. Now, she's just got to do level four..

James: All that's left is four? Man! She just got here. Kid's brave...took us months to pass just three levels.

John: (scoffs) Don't remind me.....we were just kids back then.

James: Dad, I've known you since we were thirteen stealing from candy stores. You were nervous; didn't know what you were getting yourself into.....

John: Neither did you.....years later, you're working with one of the richest guys in New York City....

James: Which so happens to be my Dad?

John: I'm going to head down to the Grid. Could you please tell Trisha to meet us in the Grid?

Trisha enters the Grid with John waiting for her.

John: Hello, Trisha. I was hoping on see you today.

Trisha: Hey, Mr. Parker.

John: How are you?

Trisha: I'm not sure, being able to generate neon kind of freaks me out.

John: That's completely understandable.

Trisha: But I wanted to let you know I've made a choice. I'd like to become a student. I want to learn about my abilities.

John: That's excellent news, Trisha. You've made a wise decision.

Trisha and John shake hands.

Trisha: Thank you, sir. This place does seem to be the last place for me, besides back at home.

John: Now that you're a student, I'd like to test your Enhuman abilities.

Trisha: Test my abilities? You mean for level four?

John: Yes, if you don't mind.

Trisha: What if I fail? Will I have to stay back a class?

John: Sweethheart, there is no grade to this course. It is merely means to full extend your powers. That way, we'll know how to deal with your particular needs.

Trisha: Okay, I'll give it a shot.

John: Don't worry, Trisha. Just do your best.

In the tunnel of the Grid room, Trisha, in her training suit, walks down the hallway while John talks to her through an intercom.

John: Trisha, can you hear me?

Trisha: Yes, sir.

John: Now your goal in this course is to defeat all enemies. Your enemies will be regular attack drones.

Trisha: Okay, let's do this.

John: Okay, your challenge begins...now!

A training droid transports in front of Trisha and punches her in the face.

Trisha: Ow! A little bit too fast, dude!

John: Sorry.

Trisha punches the droid back and groans, waving her hand in pain.

Trisha: OW!

The droid head butts Trisha as she is knocked down, before standing up with her hands conjuring neon energy. Trisha light speeds at the droid, repeatedly punching it. Two more droids appear as Trisha dodges one of the droids attacks. Trisha then backhands the droid on his left as the droid in front of her tries to punch her, but Trisha dodges and knees it in the stomach. Trisha then punches it and knocks it down, before she uses her powers to light speeds himself through the droid and grabs it by the neck. Trisha then snaps its neck as the droid falls to the ground.

Trisha: That's one.

Another droid appears as it punches Trisha.

Trisha: Oh, c'mon!

One of the droids grabs Joseph from behind while one of the droids punches Trisha in ribs. Trisha powers up as she head butts the droid behind her. She then blocks the droids punch and kicks it in the chest, before backhanding the droid that was holding her. The droid then attempts to swing, but Trisha uses her neon powers to rip off the droids left arm, whacking the droid on his right with it. Trisha then punches a hole though the one handed droid as it slowly shuts down, before kicks down an attacking droid. Trisha gets on top of it and rips off its head. Another droid appears as Trisha dodges its attack and flips it over. Trisha then light speeds out another attack and punches the droid in the stomach, before she then grabs it and holds its entire body over her head. Trisha then falls on the ground, snapping the droids head off. A small army of droids run toward Trisha as she throws the droids severed head at another droids head. She then smiles and charges up, with his neon eyes and hands energizing. Using her light speed, Trisha shoots herself towards every single droid in the room. Trisha lands on the ground as every single droid in the room falls down.

Trisha: Okay....that hurt....a lot...

John: Trisha, you did very well.

Trisha: how many is that, Doc?

John: Sixteen. Why don't we bring the rest of the droids in?

Trisha: Okay, then...

An army of droids appear as an upgraded droid appears in front of Trisha as it blocks her physical attacks.

Trisha: Okay, give me a break! Shit is gettin real!

Trisha manages to get one punch as the droid shoots a beam at his chest, knocking Trisha down.

Trisha: Okay, so this one shoots beams too.

The droid and Trisha shoot their rays at each other. The army of droids run at Trisha as the beams suddenly explodes, knocking down Trisha and destroying the droids.

John: Trisha, we're getting some miraculously readings on your powers. I'll show you after the test.

Trisha enters the center of the Grid. In the console room, John, James and Eva are watching Trisha.

John: While this is an exercise, you are in a minimum amount of danger.

James: In other words, think fast, girl!

A droid transports behind Trisha as he dodges, before kicking the droid in the chest, knocking it away. Trisha then punches the ground as a blast of neon shoots the droid into the air. The droid then lands on the floor, breaking its head off. Trisha is suddenly shot by an energy beam. The droid shoots at Trisha, who light speeds as he shoots neon energy back, hitting the droid twice. The third time blows the droid to pieces. Two more droids appear as Trisha claps his hands together, creating a blast of neon energy and sending the droids flying into the wall and destroying them.

James: hmm....that's a nice move.

Eva: I don't think any of us can create a big blast wave like that....(to James) Good thing we installed the walls to keep your suit's blast rays from tearing up the attic.

Trisha dodges the droids attack and trips, before Trisha then punches a hole through the droids chest and throws its body at the attacking droid.

Trisha: Whoa! Now that was cool!

In slow motion, Trisha dodges a droids attack and punches a hole through its chest. Trisha shoots neon beams at the attacking droids, while still connected to the destroyed droid. Trisha tosses the droid's corpse as she uses her powers and physical combat to take down the attacking droids.

James: huh....the kid's got potential.

John: Indeed she does.

Trisha shoots electric beams at the droids, until a droid grabs her and tosses her onto the floor. The droid jumps into the air as Trisha rolls over, dodging an attack. The droid hits the steel floor as Trisha kicks the droid in the face, before it attempts to strike her, but Trisha shoots it with an neon beam that sends him flying into computer rooms' glass window, causing it to crack.

Trisha: Damn it. That hurt!

James: Dad, I think the safe protocols are failing.

Trisha is eventually overwhelmed by the droids' firepower, before being cornered.

Eva: It's too much. I'm getting the kid out of there!

John: Wait....

The army of droids moves in on Trisha as her eyes turn neon, before she powers up with neon energy and unleashes a powerful neon blast that destroys the droids. The blast is felt by Arianna, Josh, Charles, and Dominic.

Josh: Holy shit....

Eric: What the hell?

Back in the Grid, John, James and Eva recover from the blast.

Eva: What the hell just happened?

In the destroyed grid, with the bodies of the destroyed droids, Trisha gathers up her strength and notices the wreckage of the blast she created.

Trisha: Ah, crap.....I'm in trouble, aren't I?

John: Not at all, sweetheart. James?

James: her energy readings are an 8.8....Dad, I.....I haven't seen energy readings this incredible since.....

John: James?

James: Since 1996...

John: Jinx....

After the incident, Trisha, now in her casual clothes and John are talking.

John: Are you okay, Trisha?

Trisha: I'm okay, Mr. Parker and I'm really sorry about what I did to the Grid. I don't know what happened; I guess I just lost control.

John: Not to worry. This type of thing happens all the time. Everyone has gone through this type of thing. Besides, it gives Charles an excuse to make modifications to the equipment.

Trisha: Well, I've had enough. I'm never setting foot in the Grid again.

John: I understand this was a very tiring test, but at some point, you must try again. It's the only way to master your powers.

Trisha: But I won't need to learn about them if I just never use them again.

John: That would not be very wise. I encourage you to take some time off and rest. When you feel better, please come back to the Grid and try again. Talk to some Josh and Dominic as they went through the same process. Maybe they can give you advice.

Trisha: I don't know, Mr. Parker. Let me think about it.
