Sarah walked into the office, the large office that she shares with three other colleagues, tired and a little weak. She dropped her bag on her seat and went to get a cup of coffee from the coffee jug.
" Hello Sarah" Annie greated, as Sarah settled on her seat to take her coffee
" Good morning Anna" Sarah said tiredly
" Are you good?" Anna asked with concern
" I'm good" Sarah responded
" I told you to come to the club and shake off these weariness, but you refused" Anna said lousily
" Not again Anna" Sarah sighed and took a sip from her coffee
" Oh well , I need you to make some research on these " Anna said and dropped some flies on Sarah's table
" I will come for ot later in the day " Anna smiled and walked away.
Sarah assessed all the files before her and squinted her face like she couldn't believe the content.
She attended to some clients, and while she works on the files Anna gave to her, during break, Anna came around and they both went for lunch.
" The file you gave to me this morning?" Sarah asked as they settled in the company's lunch area each with their order.
Anna said nothing, she just continued with her food order of a hamburger and soft drink.
"Anna?" Sarah called
"Hmmm"
" Whose company file did you give to me to work on this morning ?" Sarah asked again
" Ours" Anna replied
" Ours?" Sarah asked surprisingly for confirmation " it's about a bad investment"
Anna sighed and dropped the last piece of her hamburger on the plate before her
" Ooh, Sarah, I don't know how to tell you Sarah but Global Nation company is going through a very hard time , they have lost over ten million dollars over a bad investment " Anna explained
" Yeah, I saw that " Sarah replied " explain to me Anna, what will happen later on " Sarah asked, she was particularly worried about herself, the staff. She wondered if the company would be able to keep up with their wages.
"Sarah the company will be folding up" Anna said quietly
" And don't tell anyone yet " Anna added
Sarah was perplexed, she knew it , her instincts were right coupled with the content of the files.
Now , it seems like Sarah's problem multiply, she has been a staff member of Global National Bank for almost four years since she decided to leave her father to live alone.
Sarah is a lone wolf, she has no friends until the previous year that she decided to give Anna a chance for friendship. They both work in the bank. However, Anna is in the administrative department.
The next day , Sarah got to work as usual, but this time she was quite discouraged. She heard her other colleagues rumor that something might be wrong in the company.
Sarah knew it was all about what Anna said to her previously. The company is folding up. The company sent a memo for a meeting and in no time all the staff gathered.
As Mr. Morgan stepped off the podium, the room fell silent. The weight of his words hung in the air like a thick fog, suffocating the hopes and dreams of the employees. Sarah felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She had known that the bank was struggling, but she had never imagined that it would come to this.
Anna, her friend from the administrative department, had warned her about the impending doom. But Sarah had chosen to ignore the warning signs, hoping that somehow, someway, the bank would pull through.
Now, as she walked out of the conference room, Sarah felt a sense of numbness wash over her. She was just one of the many employees who had lost their jobs. The thought sent a shiver down her spine.
As she made her way to her desk to collect her belongings, Sarah couldn't help but think about how she was going to pay her bills. She had rent to pay, a car loan to service, and a credit card debt that seemed to be growing by the day.
The thought of job hunting was daunting. The job market was tough, and Sarah knew that she would be competing with hundreds of other qualified candidates for a limited number of positions.
As she packed up her things, Sarah felt a sense of sadness wash over her. She had loved working at the bank. She had loved the sense of camaraderie with her colleagues, the feeling of being part of a team.
But now, all of that was gone. The bank was folding, and Sarah was left to pick up the pieces of her shattered dreams.
As she walked out of the bank for the last time, Sarah felt a sense of uncertainty about her future. She had no idea what lay ahead, but she knew that she had to be strong. She had to pick herself up, dust herself off, and start again.
The walk home was a blur. Sarah's mind was preoccupied with thoughts of her future, her finances, and her fears. She felt like she was walking through a dense fog, with no clear direction or purpose.
As she opened the door to her apartment, Sarah was greeted by the silence of an empty space. She felt a sense of loneliness wash over her, and for a moment, she just stood there, unsure of what to do next.
But then, something inside of her clicked. She remembered the words of her mother, who had always told her that she was strong, that she could overcome any obstacle.
Sarah took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and began to unpack her belongings. She knew that she had a long road ahead of her, but she was determined to face it head-on.
As she put away her things, Sarah felt a sense of resolve wash over her. She knew that she would get through this, that she would find a way to overcome her fears and doubts.
And as she lay in bed that night, Sarah felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that tomorrow would bring new challenges, but she was ready to face them. She was ready to start again, to rebuild her life and create a new future for herself.
Sarah and Anna sat at a small table in the cafeteria, sipping their coffee and trying to process the news they had just received.
"Well, this is a shock," Anna said, breaking the silence.
Sarah nodded. "I know. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. What am I going to do now?"
Anna reached out and put a hand on Sarah's arm. "You'll figure something out. You're strong and capable. You'll find another job in no time."
Sarah sighed. "I hope so. But what about you? What are your plans?"
Anna smiled. "I'm actually really excited. My boyfriend, Alex, and I have been talking about moving in together, and now seems like the perfect time. We're thinking of going to California and starting fresh."
Sarah's eyes widened. "California? That's a big move. Are you sure you're ready for that?"
Anna nodded. "Yes, I'm positive. Alex and I have been together for a few years now, and we're ready to take the next step. We're actually thinking of getting married out there."
Sarah's face lit up with a smile. "That's amazing! Congratulations, Anna. I'm so happy for you."
Anna beamed with excitement. "Thanks, Sarah. I'm really looking forward to this new chapter in my life. And I'm going to miss you so much, but I know we'll stay in touch."
Sarah felt a pang of sadness at the thought of Anna leaving, but she was also happy for her friend. "I'll miss you too, Anna. But I'm really happy for you. You deserve all the best."
As they chatted, Sarah couldn't help but think about her own future. She didn't have a boyfriend or a clear plan for what she wanted to do next. She knew she would have to return to her father's house in Texas, but she wasn't sure what she would do once she got there.
"Anna, can I ask you something?" Sarah said, hesitating.
"Of course, what is it?" Anna replied.
"What do I do now?" Sarah asked, feeling a sense of uncertainty. "I don't have a job, and I don't have any savings. I'll have to go back to my dad's house in Texas, but I don't know what I'll do once I get there."
Anna's expression turned serious. "Sarah, you're strong and capable. You'll figure something out. You can always come visit me in California, and we can brainstorm some ideas together. But for now, maybe going back to your dad's house is the best thing for you. You can take some time to regroup and figure out what you want to do next."
Sarah nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Anna. "Thanks, Anna. Just talking to you makes me feel a little better. I'll definitely come visit you in California soon."
Anna smiled. "I'm looking forward to it. And don't worry, Sarah. You'll get through this. You're a survivor."
