Chapter 3 - The Truth Unfolds

Five years had passed since I woke up in this strange new world, confused and helpless. In that time, I had settled into the life of Mark Grayson, the son of Nolan and Debbie. Despite the occasional pang of unease that came with the fragmented memories of my past life, I'd grown to love my new parents. Debbie was everything you'd want in a mother—caring, warm, and endlessly patient. Nolan, though stern and reserved, had his moments of genuine affection that made me feel safe.

It wasn't a bad life so far. In fact, it was wonderful. I have a family, a home, and a sense of normalcy I hadn't felt in my past life. For a while, I let myself forget the nagging sense that something wasn't right. I was happy—or at least as happy as someone who occasionally remembered dying could be.

"Mark," My father's voice called out to me. I turned to see him standing in the doorway, his towering frame filling the space. He gave me a small smile. "Come with me. There's something we need to talk about."

I followed him silently wondering what he wanted to talk to me about. The room was warm and richly decorated, with bookshelves lining the walls and a large desk in the center. He motioned for me to sit on the small couch near the window.

He sat across from me, leaning forward slightly, his forearms resting on his knees. His face was calm, but his eyes were sharp like he was gauging my reaction before he even said anything.

"Mark," he began, his tone steady but serious. "You're old enough now to understand the truth about who I am—and who you are."

I looked at him confused, my five-year-old brain wondering what he meant.

"I'm not from Earth," he said. "I'm from a planet called Viltrum. It's… far away, in another galaxy. Our people are strong and resilient. We're protectors, Mark. We've spent centuries traveling to other worlds, helping weaker civilizations thrive. That's what I came here to do."

He paused, watching me closely. I kept my face neutral, though my heart was pounding. The pieces were clicking into place, faster and faster. The word Viltrum. The idea of traveling to other planets. His reserved, calculating demeanor. My stomach churned as my repressed memories pulled together, forming a picture I didn't want to see.

"I fell in love with this planet," he continued, his tone softening. "With your mom. With you. And now, Earth is my home. It's our home. One day, you'll understand what it means to be a Viltrumite. You'll grow stronger, faster, and more capable than anyone else on this planet. It's in your blood, Mark. You're special."

His words should've been comforting. They should've made me feel like I was part of something greater. But instead, they made my stomach churn. I couldn't stop thinking about what I remembered and knew was coming. This wasn't just a second chance at life. This was the life. The Invincible Universe. And my father was Omni-Man. The same Omni-Man whose mission was to weaken Earth for the Viltrumite empire.

That night, as I lay in bed, I couldn't stop replaying the conversation in my head. The memories of my past life were clearer now like a fog had lifted. I was in the Invincible universe. I was Mark Grayson. And I was going to have Viltrumite powers.

I couldn't stop smiling as I stared up at the ceiling. This wasn't just a second chance—it was the chance of a lifetime. Sure, I knew what was coming. I knew about Nolan's mission and the dark road that lay ahead. But right now, none of that mattered.

All I could think about was flying, fighting, and finally getting to live the kind of life I'd always dreamed of. And if things went off the rails? Well, I had knowledge from my past life. I could change things. Make this story my own.

For the first time in years—maybe even longer—I felt truly alive. The future wasn't just bright. It was invincible.
