Zara froze, her breath catching in her throat. The voice wasn't coming from the forest. it was coming from inside her. It was clear, strong, and completely different from the manipulative tone of the voice tempting her.
Her head darted around in confusion. "Who's there?!" she demanded, but she received no answer from the forest.
Sensing her hesitation, the first voice grew sharper. "Ignore that distraction," it urged. "It's nothing but your doubt speaking. Focus on what you desire, Zara. The new day is almost here, and you need the power to face Jennifer."
The logic made sense, but before Zara could agree, the second voice interrupted again, more forceful this time.
"Don't you dare accept it!"
