Amahle's pov
I tried to rush forward, to stop Xolani from hurting Themba again, but my legs felt like lead and I couldn't move. I was frozen in horror, unable to do anything but watch as Xolani's foot came crashing down.
But just as all hope seemed lost, Themba rolled out of the way, avoiding Xolani's kick by mere inches. He scrambled to his feet, his eyes blazing with determination.
"We have to get out of here, Amahle!" he shouted, grabbing my arm and pulling me towards the trees.
But it was too late. Xolani was already closing in on us, his face twisted with rage. Themba tried to push me away, to protect me from Xolani's wrath, but I refused to leave him.
And then, in a flash of violence, Xolani's fist connected with Themba's jaw, sending him crashing to the ground. This time, Themba didn't get up. He lay there, motionless, as Xolani loomed over him, his eyes blazing with triumph.
"No!" I screamed, rushing forward to try and save my friend. But it was too late. Themba's eyes were closed, and he wasn't moving.
