Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

Upon hearing Park Su's words, Xu Nuo looked at him with displeasure, "So what do you want to do? You hate that woman for causing trouble for you, don't you?"

Park Su nodded instinctively, "Yes, I do. Because of her, I couldn't even enjoy my dinner properly."

Xu Nuo raised an eyebrow, "Then it's settled. We'll kill the chicken to scare the monkey!"

Park Su was momentarily speechless, not knowing how to respond. While he was still stunned, Xu Nuo turned and walked out the door. Park Su opened his mouth but didn't call out to stop him, instead, following him outside.

Upon opening the security door, Park Su saw several military pickups and a Hummer van, evidently brought by the group inside. Behind the pickups were numerous crates, obviously containing the supplies these people had brought. Park Su didn't know what was inside, but just looking at the amount of supplies, he found himself not hating the woman as much. After all, without her, someone else would have come knocking, but they might not have brought so much.

From what he could tell, these people weren't particularly capable, only able to make it this far because they had an ability user and sheer numbers. Park Su, understanding the apocalypse, knew how many obstacles awaited on the road ahead. Traveling with so much loot was like a lamb walking into a den of wolves; even if they could initially fend off some road bandits, their supplies would eventually be taken.

However, because of that woman, they targeted him first, allowing him to benefit from their resources. But considering the amount of supplies he already had at home and that his team now only consisted of him and Xu Nuo, they couldn't carry much more. This made him feel somewhat distressed. Just as Park Su was once again considering whether he should find a space ability user to join his team, Xu Nuo had already approached the only business van.

He knocked on the car door, and the person inside moved but didn't open the door. Naturally, they wouldn't; the woman had brought these men, thinking they could help her kill these two young men, gain some supplies, and perhaps be taken in by their group. Yet, seeing the group go in but only these two coming out, she was now scared and even a bit regretful that she hadn't followed them inside.

In her view, it wasn't that the men had lost to these two youths; rather, these youths must have persuaded the men with something else, making them join their team, and the men had betrayed her. That's why they were out here looking for her to settle scores.

She gritted her teeth, thinking that had she gone in with them, she wouldn't have let them have the chance to walk out. Team up? She was full of hatred for these two, especially Park Su. If it weren't for him, how would she have ended up in such a situation, becoming a dependent of these men, having to curry favor just to get a decent meal?

With these thoughts, she couldn't help but look through the windshield at the seemingly adorable young man, her eyes flashing with hatred. If it weren't for him killing Meng Hu, she would still be the woman living without worry.

In her eyes, they had taken over Meng Hu's house and were unwilling to give it back, yet they had killed him, severing her only support and making her life a cycle of hunger and satiation. Each time she was starving, she had to listen to the zombies banging on her door, which only deepened her hatred for Park Su.

She had been living with Meng Hu for some time. Although he was a bit of a thug, he treated her well. In the first two days of the apocalypse, his presence gave her much peace of mind. When he left that day, he said he was going to reclaim the house his mother had sold, claiming it was to make her more comfortable. He also mentioned that the young man, Park Su, who bought the house, looked like a weakling and was not to be worried about. He told her to wait for him to come back in the evening to take her to live in Park Su's renovated old house.

She had always had confidence in Meng Hu's combat abilities, especially since she had seen Park Su from afar when Meng Hu's mother sold the house. He did indeed seem thin and weak, not likely to be a match for Meng Hu. But she didn't expect that the news she received that night wasn't of Meng Hu coming back for her but of his death.

At first, she couldn't believe her ears when she heard the news, asking the messenger twice to confirm, still unwilling to believe it. How could Meng Hu lose, and to such a boy, without even leaving behind a body?

She inquired about the details of that day. She learned that Park Su must have some kind of special ability, though she didn't understand it, she knew she wasn't his match. Yet, she was unwilling to let Park Su off so easily. In her view, Park Su could have spared Meng Hu.

Instead, he left the injured Meng Hu outside the door to be devoured by zombies, not even leaving a body for her. Although she and Meng Hu had no official relationship, he had genuinely been good to her.

Especially after comparing her life after Meng Hu's death to what it had been, her resentment towards this young man named Park Su grew. However, she was also a pragmatic person, knowing she didn't have the strength to seek revenge alone.

So she harbored this hatred deep within, waiting for an opportunity. When this convoy arrived, she could tell from afar that they had some skills. Seeing them all strong and robust, she became even more eager to join them. Despite her age, she maintained her figure well and used her appearance to approach and flatter them. Sure enough, they took an interest in her, willing to take her along. She also learned indirectly that they needed supplies, and among them, there was an ability user.

Upon hearing there was an ability user among them, she felt her chance for revenge had come. She had been keeping an eye on Park Su and knew he had gathered quite a few supplies during his outings. Honestly, she had been quite envious, but she lacked the ability to take them herself, so she could only watch.

Now, these people desperately needed supplies, and they seemed truly capable. Most importantly, they were numerous, while Park Su's house only had him and an injured man. It should be easy enough to deal with. This was a golden opportunity for her to both exact revenge and make a name for herself within this group.

She wouldn't miss such a chance to kill two birds with one stone, so she immediately reported the information to their leader, and they brought her along to rob Park Su. She had been looking forward to seeing Park Su beg for mercy.

She hadn't anticipated that instead of waiting for her, the group she thought would help her deal with Park Su was now led by him and the injured man. Seeing the cold, indifferent man knocking on her car door, she felt a sense of crisis. She could almost feel that if she opened that door, she might not survive the night.

So, she curled up in her seat, unwilling to open the door, thinking that as long as she stayed put, they couldn't do anything to her. Perhaps they would even spare her because she was a woman.

Unfortunately, Xu Nuo was never one for patience. After knocking on the door a third time without a response, he furrowed his brow and directly used his ability. The woman was then horrified to find she couldn't control her hand as it pressed the unlock button from inside the car.

Without a word, Xu Nuo opened the car door, and the woman got out, not because she wanted to, but because she had no choice. She looked at Xu Nuo with great fear and said, "What do you want with me? I'm the leader's woman in this convoy; you can't just harm me."

Park Su couldn't help but feel exasperated at her words. If they really cared about the people in the convoy, would they be here confronting her so openly?

Xu Nuo, however, was straightforward. He placed a talisman on the woman and then turned to Park Su, saying, "I'll leave her to you, or should I just kill her to eliminate future trouble?" In fact, Xu Nuo wouldn't mind doing so, but from Park Su's earlier words, he gathered that Park Su didn't want to kill her outright, so he asked.

This was why Xu Nuo found interpersonal relationships troublesome. In the past, he would avoid people he found difficult to deal with. However, sometimes, for his own provisions, he could tolerate some contact.

But in the current apocalypse, there was even less need to deal with these people, especially since the only reason to engage with them seemed to have vanished. Moreover, since Park Su had already taken care of his provisions, anyone who wanted to harm him should just be dealt with directly, without all these complications.

However, considering that Park Su had secured his food, Xu Nuo was willing to ask for his opinion. After all, he had already subdued the woman; what came next was up to Park Su.

Park Su had thought Xu Nuo would just kill her, and he was about to persuade him otherwise, but to his surprise, Xu Nuo had handed the decision over to him. Park Su was momentarily taken aback but quickly responded, "Then let's take her inside. With all that commotion and blood, I'm sure the zombies will be drawn here soon." Xu Nuo didn't argue against the cooperative opinion, already moving towards the house. Then he turned to look at the immobilized woman, ready to speak, but Park Su quickly grabbed his arm, saying, "You'll have to use your ability to get her inside; I can't exactly manhandle a woman, can I?"

Xu Nuo glanced at the hand gripping his arm, his eyes narrowing slightly, but he didn't say more. He used his ability on the woman, who then began to walk inside on her own. Only then did Xu Nuo say, "Can you let go now?"

Park Su realized his abruptness and laughed awkwardly before letting go, stepping into his yard first. Xu Nuo turned back to look at the subtle changes in the distant spiritual energy and frowned. Before entering, he placed a talisman on the door, then closed it behind him.

The woman, before entering Park Su's yard, had been thinking of begging the convoy leader for another chance when she saw him again, at least to save her own life. But upon seeing the unconscious men littered around the yard and the bloodied face of the convoy leader, she realized it wasn't that the convoy had taken in Park Su and Xu Nuo; it was they who had dealt with the convoy. At this moment, she was genuinely scared.

Park Su, however, approached her with a friendly smile, standing in front of her, "Tell me, with so many people in the village to target, why choose me? You better tell the truth; no tricks. In this world, a few lives lost are of no concern to anyone." He pointed at the bloodied men, "You wouldn't want to end up like them, would you?"

The woman shivered, looking at the men covered in blood. At this moment, she saw no trace of naivety or cuteness in Park Su's baby face; instead, she felt a chill run up her spine. She regretted ever targeting Park Su. She should have used the convoy to leave the village or chosen another target among the villagers. These two were clearly formidable.

Park Su's abilities were something she had only heard of, not seen, but they had killed Meng Hu, and now she was immobilized by Xu Nuo without him even lifting a finger. This could only mean both were ability users.

She had briefly considered using her beauty to seduce them, but Xu Nuo's cold demeanor and lack of hesitation when dealing with her made her realize that this man was not someone she could seduce. As for Park Su, his youthful face made the idea of seducing him seem like seducing a child, and his clear, desireless eyes when looking at her showed no interest.

Moreover, despite his current smile, she could sense the malice beneath it. She thought about how she had finally found a refuge in Meng Hu, only for him to be killed by Park Su, and now the convoy she had joined was also destroyed by him. Why was it so hard to find peace in this world?

And all of this was because of this seemingly harmless man. The more she thought about it, the deeper her hatred grew, causing her once-pretty face to twist in anger, her voice turning shrill, "Why did I target you, you ask? I should be asking why you targeted me? Meng Hu was like this, and now the convoy is like this too. I just wanted to find some support in this world, but you've destroyed my support time and again. How could I not hate you?"

Upon hearing Meng Hu's name, Park Su's brows furrowed. He had guessed the woman's identity, so he directly asked, "Are you Meng Hu's girlfriend?"

"Yes, I am his girlfriend." The woman's face twisted further upon hearing Park Su acknowledge her identity. "You killed him. He was just an ordinary person, and you're an awakened ability user. You could have spared him, but why did you push him to his death, not even leaving a body for me?"

Hearing the woman's accusation, Park Su couldn't help but find it amusing, "I'm an ability user, and you want me to spare him? But if I wasn't an ability user, would Meng Hu have spared me? I'd probably be kicked out of my own house by now, with nowhere to live, eaten clean by those zombies. Since he picked a fight with the mentality of a strong person, he should have been prepared to kick an iron plate."

Park Su looked at the woman and continued, "I know you have many grievances, but I don't need you to agree with me. As you can see, this world has become one where the strong prey on the weak. You've wronged me and harbor resentment towards me. If I don't kill you, I fear that given the chance, you'd come after me. So..."
