Kai lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling, his crimson eyes faintly glowing in the dim light of his room. His hands rested behind his head as he let his thoughts drift, a small smirk playing on his lips.
"Not a bad day," he muttered to himself. "Got the mission done, showed off a little, and managed to keep Elara from punching me too hard. Progress, I'd say." He chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Still, that portal entrance? Iconic. Lyra's face alone made it worth it."
He let out a deep sigh, his body sinking further into the bed. "Shadow Reaver..." he said quietly, glancing at the faint void-like patterns on his hands. "It's got a nice ring to it, doesn't it?"
With a final chuckle, Kai closed his eyes, his breathing slowing as he drifted off. "Alright, tomorrow's another day to make some chaos. Let's see what happens."
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the cracks in the shutters, casting warm patterns on the walls. Kai groaned, his eyes fluttering open as he rubbed his face. "Morning already?" he muttered, his voice groggy.
Sitting up slowly, he yawned dramatically, running a hand through his hair. "Ugh, mornings. Who invented these?" he said, dragging himself out of bed. "I feel like a zombie."
He stretched his arms over his head, a satisfying crack echoing through the room as he moved. "Alright, Kai," he said to himself, his tone still half-asleep. "Food first. Questions from everyone about my new look second."
Yawning again, he shuffled toward the door, his movements slow and exaggerated. "Maybe if I move slow enough, the morning will leave me alone," he muttered.
As he made his way downstairs, his thoughts continued to drift. "Breakfast better be good," he said quietly. "After the week I've had, I deserve a feast."
When he reached the dining area, he saw his friends and classmates already seated at a large table. Their chatter quieted as he entered the room, their eyes turning toward him. Kai let out another yawn, waving lazily. "Hey, guys," he said casually, his tone light.
No one responded. The atmosphere felt tense, and Kai paused, raising an eyebrow as he noticed their nervous expressions. His crimson eyes flickered toward the end of the table, where a familiar figure sat. Elara.
Her arms were crossed, her green eyes locked onto him with a sharp glare. Her aura radiated out from her body, heavy and oppressive, and her expression was etched with annoyance and anger.
Kai blinked, then smirked, unfazed by the tension. "Oh, morning, Captain," he said, yawning again. "Nice to see you looking so... radiant."
Elara's expression darkened, her aura flaring slightly. "Kai," she said sharply, her voice dripping with irritation. "Do you have any idea how infuriating you are?"
Kai tilted his head, his smirk widening. "I've got a pretty good idea," he replied, leaning casually against the back of a chair. "But go on, Captain. I'm listening."
Her fists clenched as she stood, her green eyes narrowing. "You vanished into some portal yesterday, looking like a walking shadow, and now you show up acting like nothing happened?"
Kai yawned again, scratching the back of his head. "Come on, Elara," he teased. "You're not still mad about that, are you?"
"Mad?" she snapped, her voice rising. "Kai, you're reckless, impossible, and now you look like some shadow-drenched nightmare! How am I supposed to trust you when you keep doing things like this?"
Kai chuckled, crossing his arms. "Trust me, Captain. You'll get used to it."
Elara's face flushed, and her aura flared again, the pressure in the room intensifying. "Used to it?" she shouted. "You're impossible! And don't think I've forgotten my promise!"
Kai raised an eyebrow, his smirk never fading. "Promise? Oh, you mean the one where you said you'd follow me everywhere?"
Elara's cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red, and she pointed at him, her voice sharp. "That's right! I'm not letting you out of my sight. Wherever you go, I go. On missions, in the field—I'm going to make sure you don't destroy everything around you!"
Kai's friends and classmates, who had been watching the exchange in stunned silence, exchanged nervous glances. Sean whispered to Liam, "She's really serious about this, isn't she?"
Liam nodded, wiping sweat from his brow. "Terrifyingly serious."
Kai laughed, shaking his head. "Wow, Elara," he said, his tone light and teasing. "I didn't know you cared so much."
"I don't care!" she snapped, her voice cracking slightly. "I just don't trust you to stay out of trouble!"
Kai's smirk widened, and he leaned closer, his crimson eyes glinting with mischief. "Sounds like love to me."
The room fell silent, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Sean and Liam stared, their jaws dropping, while Sarah covered her mouth to stifle a laugh.
Elara's entire face turned bright red, and she screamed, "It's not love!"
Her aura burst outward, the oppressive energy filling the room as she glared at Kai. "You're insufferable! Reckless! Impossible!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the dining area.
Kai, unfazed, laughed again, throwing up his hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. You've made your point, Captain. But admit it, I make life more interesting."
Elara groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose as her classmates nervously shuffled in their seats. "You're going to drive me insane, Kai," she muttered.
Kai winked, leaning back against the chair. "That's the plan, Captain. That's the plan."
After finishing breakfast, Kai pushed his chair back and stretched with a satisfied sigh. "Alright, time for me to head out," he said casually, his crimson eyes glinting with amusement.
Elara immediately stood, her arms crossed as she glared at him. "Where you go, I go," she declared, her tone leaving no room for argument.
Kai raised an eyebrow, his smirk widening. "Still sticking to that promise, huh?"
"Yes," Elara replied sharply. "Someone has to keep you from causing more chaos."
Kai laughed, shaking his head. "Sure thing, Captain. But not today. Bye!"
With a wave of his hand, dark energy began swirling in front of him, forming a Void Gate. Before Elara could react, Kai stepped into the portal, disappearing as it closed behind him. The room fell silent, save for the faint hum of residual magic.
Elara's fists clenched, her aura flaring slightly as she glared at the empty space. "KAI!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the room. "You're impossible!"
Kai's friends and classmates exchanged nervous glances. Sean nudged Liam, whispering, "Let's get out of here before she takes this out on us."
Liam nodded quickly, the two of them sneaking out of their chairs and tiptoeing toward the door. Before they could escape, Elara turned her sharp gaze on them. "And where do you think you're going?" she demanded.
"Uh... nowhere!" Sean stammered, throwing up his hands in surrender. "We're just, uh, stretching our legs!"
Elara groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose as her classmates exchanged worried looks. "Kai is going to drive me insane," she muttered.
Meanwhile, at the guild, Kai stepped out of the Void Gate, the swirling portal closing behind him with a faint hiss. The lively sounds of adventurers filled the air, and the faint scent of parchment and ink mingled with the buzz of conversation. Kai glanced around, his crimson eyes glinting as he spotted Lyra at her usual spot behind the counter.
"Hey, Lyra!" Kai called, strolling up to the desk with his usual smirk.
Lyra glanced up from her paperwork, her orange ears twitching slightly before she rolled her eyes. "You again," she said, her tone half-teasing. "What chaos are you bringing with you this time?"
Kai leaned casually on the counter, his voice light. "Chaos? Me? I'm hurt, Lyra. You know I'm the picture of responsibility."
Lyra raised an eyebrow, setting her pen down. "Right. And I'm the queen of this guild."
Kai chuckled, shaking his head. "Oh, by the way," he added, his tone amused. "You might want to brace yourself. Elara might come in here blazing and yelling any second now."
Lyra blinked, tilting her head. "Blazing and yelling? What did you do this time?"
Kai smirked. "Nothing much. Just left her behind."
Lyra sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "You really have a death wish, don't you?"
"Probably," Kai replied with a laugh. "But hey, it's part of my charm."
Lyra shook her head, though her lips twitched with a faint smile. "You're impossible, Kai. Absolutely impossible."
Kai winked, pushing off the counter. "And yet, you can't stay mad at me."
"Keep pushing your luck," Lyra muttered as she returned to her work. "Anyway, try not to destroy anything while you're here."
Kai chuckled, turning toward the updated mission board. "No promises."
Kai walked up to the mission board, his crimson eyes scanning the neatly arranged slips of paper. The Bronze Rank Missions caught his attention, and he began reading through the titles and descriptions, muttering to himself.

Kai's eyes lingered on the Village Perimeter Check mission. "Patrolling a village, huh? Nice and simple. Sounds like a good warm-up," he muttered, plucking the slip from the board. Turning back to Lyra, he walked over and handed it to her.
Lyra glanced at the slip and raised an eyebrow. "Village Perimeter Check? A simple patrol? Not exactly your usual style, Kai."
Kai shrugged, his smirk never fading. "What can I say? Sometimes you've got to start small."
Lyra set the slip on her desk, stamping it with approval before handing him a copy. "Alright, it's yours. Just don't scare the villagers with your new look, okay?"
Kai chuckled, tucking the mission slip into his pocket. "No promises, Lyra. But thanks."
Lyra rolled her eyes, though her smile lingered. "You're welcome. Now go before Elara shows up and burns the guild down."
Kai laughed, turning toward the exit. "Later, Lyra."
