Chereads / Void Sovereign: Rise of the Cursed God / Chapter 16 - Into the Abyss

Chapter 16 - Into the Abyss

Ravok emerged from the shimmering gate, his senses overwhelmed by the sudden shift in atmosphere. The air here was heavier, charged with raw energy that seemed to buzz just beneath the surface. The ground beneath his feet was no longer solid stone but a translucent expanse of what looked like black glass, faintly glowing with veins of Void energy.

Lara stepped through moments later, her breath catching as she took in the alien landscape. Above them, a swirling vortex of stars and shadow stretched endlessly, casting faint light that danced across the ground. In the distance, towering spires of crystalline obsidian pierced the horizon, their surfaces crackling with energy.

"Where are we now?" Lara asked, her voice edged with unease.

Ravok's crimson eyes scanned the horizon. "This is no longer the Hollow. This… is the Void's Domain."

---

A Realm of Uncertainty

As they moved cautiously across the glasslike expanse, the faint whispers returned, though softer and more fragmented. Each step echoed unnaturally, as if the sound itself was absorbed by the realm. Lara tightened her grip on her daggers, her eyes darting to every flicker of movement in the distance.

"This place feels… alive," she said quietly.

"It is," Ravok replied. "The Void isn't just a force—it's a sentient presence. Every inch of this place is part of its will."

"Comforting," Lara muttered. "So what's the plan? Just wander around until something tries to kill us?"

Ravok smirked faintly. "Something always tries to kill us. The question is when."

The Obsidian Spire

Their journey brought them closer to one of the towering spires. Its surface pulsed faintly, the energy within it casting shifting patterns of light across the ground. As they approached, the whispers grew louder, their fragmented words forming a coherent phrase.

"Claim the shard… if you dare."

"Let me guess," Lara said, glaring at the spire. "Another trap?"

"Not just a trap," Ravok said, his tone calm but thoughtful. "An opportunity."

The base of the spire was surrounded by jagged shards of obsidian, their edges glowing faintly. At the center of the shards rested a crystalline fragment, its surface pulsing with an intense, otherworldly light. The energy it radiated resonated with the Void power within Ravok, calling to him like a faint echo.

"This is it," Ravok said, his gaze fixed on the fragment. "A piece of the Void's essence."

"And we're just supposed to walk up and take it?" Lara asked, her skepticism clear.

"Nothing is ever that simple," Ravok replied. "Stay ready."

---

The Spire's Challenge

As Ravok reached for the shard, the spire flared to life. The ground trembled, and the glowing shards around them rose into the air, converging into a massive, humanoid form. The construct's body was made of crystalline obsidian, its limbs crackling with energy. Its head tilted downward, empty eyes locking onto Ravok.

"Well, there's your answer," Lara said, her daggers already drawn. "It's never simple."

The construct moved with surprising speed, its massive arm sweeping toward them. Ravok and Lara dove in opposite directions as the ground where they stood moments ago shattered into fragments.

---

Battle with the Obsidian Construct

Ravok rolled to his feet, his dagger glowing with Void energy as he assessed the construct's movements. Its attacks were deliberate, each strike aimed to destroy rather than merely intimidate.

"It's guarding the shard," Ravok said, dodging another swing. "We need to separate it from the spire's energy."

"Right," Lara said, her tone sharp. "And how do we do that without getting flattened?"

"The same way we always do," Ravok replied. "Strategy."

He moved swiftly, his eyes scanning the construct for any weakness. The glowing veins of energy running through its body seemed to converge at its chest, where a faintly glowing core pulsed in rhythm with the spire.

"The core," Ravok said. "That's its anchor."

"Fantastic," Lara muttered, dodging a shard of obsidian that shot toward her. "So how do we get to it?"

"Leave that to me," Ravok said, his voice calm. "Just keep it distracted."

---

The Strike

Lara didn't argue. She darted around the construct, her daggers flashing as she struck at its limbs. The attacks didn't damage it, but they forced it to turn and focus on her. Ravok used the distraction to move closer, his movements precise and deliberate.

As the construct swung at Lara, Ravok surged forward, Void energy surging through his dagger. With a swift leap, he drove the blade into the construct's chest, aiming directly for the core.

The impact sent a shockwave through the air, and the construct let out a deafening roar. Cracks spread across its body, the energy within it flaring wildly before it collapsed into a pile of inert shards.

---

Claiming the Void Shard

The spire dimmed as the construct fell, and the shard at its base pulsed brighter, as if inviting Ravok to take it. He approached cautiously, his hand hovering over the fragment.

"Are you sure about this?" Lara asked, her tone uncertain.

"Nothing is certain," Ravok replied, his crimson eyes locked on the shard. "But power isn't given. It's claimed."

He grasped the shard, and a surge of energy coursed through him. The Void's whispers grew louder, forming coherent words that echoed in his mind.

"You have taken the first step. The path ahead is endless. Rise, Void Sovereign."

Ravok's grip tightened on the shard, its energy merging with his own. He could feel its power, raw and untamed, resonating with the Void energy within him.

---

The Next Path

The landscape began to shift as the spire dissolved, leaving behind only the shard's pulsing glow. A new path formed ahead, leading toward the horizon where more spires loomed.

"This place doesn't end, does it?" Lara asked, exhaustion creeping into her voice.

"No," Ravok said, his tone resolute. "But neither do we."

He turned toward the new path, the shard's energy still thrumming in his hand. Without hesitation, he stepped forward, Lara close behind. The Void's Domain was vast and unforgiving, but Ravok knew it held the key to his ascent.
