Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Turning around, Elya came face to face with him, his grey eyes staring deep into hers. His expression seemed delighted to see her. Unlike her, he wasn't wearing the same starter clothes and he seemed to have gotten hands on some dark black armour which matched his horns.

His bloodline didn't change his height but he still towered over her. Attached to his back, she could see a large handle of some type of weapon peeking over his shoulder. It was a beautiful handle, with runes carved on every avaliable surface.

"Hey Elya, didn't think I'd see you here." Alex's deep voice spoke out, making her stomach coil and flutter. 'You can't react like this just cause a hot guy talks to you, get it together.' She berated herself.

"You either. Your the first player I've seen in this place" She replied to him, cracking out a tentative smile which he returned with a wide grin.

"It's lucky I did, I have a quest that I need help with and since your here, would you like to do it with me?" He offered her. And she agreed since she was looking for another one anyway.

[Quest: Cave Extermination

Description: Fog Dwellers have infested a nearby cave filled with precious herbs used to create alchemy potions, the alchemy guild in the Misbegotten City needs them extermination.

Recommended Level: Level 10 with a party, Level 20 alone.

Requirement: Kill 30 Fog Dwellers (0/30)

Reward: 1,500 Exp, 5 silver, 10 low-grade health potions, 10 low-grade mana potions].

Her first thought was the amount of rewards that they recieved but it makes sense since if the cave is as precious as the guild makes it sound like then they'd pay well to recover it's resources from am unintelligent race.

Elya asked Alex if he knew what Fog Dwellers were, and he responded with what he knew about them.

"Fog Dwellers are original creatures which are shrouded in a layer of grey fog which have a radius around their body. This fog allows them to hide how close they are from you and makes them deadly in close combat. Without the fog, they are four-armed with a dozen yellow eyes on their head.

Their biggest strength is the fog, and without it, they become weakened. Like a fish out of water. However, we will be put at a large disadvantage because there is a tribe of them together in a secluded area. It will be completely covered by fog.

And I have a plan for us to get ride of the fog with a skill I have. But I need you to be bait." As he explained everything and his plans she eventually agreed to it.

Alex's Class was called the [Gluttonous Swordsman] where they began with a weapon that stays with them throughout the whole game. This weapon is inscribed with runes which let's it absorb attacks, skills, energies, and other countless stuff and recreate their effects if it is exposed enough.

His plan was for Elya to be the distraction, so he could absorb all the fog into his sword. Once he finished, they would attack the now helpless creatures, and slaughter them all. He theorised it would take around two minutes for his sword to absorb it all and he couldn't attack or move during it.

Walking through the city, he led her to a tree. A normal tree.

Seeing her expression, he chuckled and drew a symbol on it which revealed a door which led to the ground. The same circle which she found on the floor where she spawned in, it connected to this tree. A passageway for those who can't fly.

Humouring him, she travelled the hundreds of steps to get down to the forest floor and vowed to never do that again. Following his lead, he brought her west towards the forest depths where the cave system they inhabited opened up.

Walking through bushes, they saw a relatively hidden cave obscured by the flora around, which was leaking fog. Creating an eerie atmosphere. Following the plan, she entered first.

The mist completely covered everything around her. Blocking everything from sight, cautiously advancing forward, she kept one hand on the wall to orient herself.

A blackened hand struck her. Casting [Ebony Whip] she lashed out on the area in front of her, hitting the creature due to its vast range.

The creature hissed at her, summoning her wings to cover her back and negate any damage to her flank, she began striking in wide arcs of her whip infront of her. Almost instantly, she saw hundreds of yellow eyes peering at her through their fog.

Summoning a second [Ebony Whip] in her other hand, she dual wielded them, and struck out infront of her to cause a disturbance and stop them from advancing towards her and Alex behind her. A noticable amount of the fog began pulling away from the Fog Dwellers and absorbing into his weapon.

They screeched in response but the cave was too small for a large amount of them to advance towards him, because her wings were completely spread out touching both walls. Only allowing a sliver of fog to get through small gaps. One of them managed to squeeze itself through the gap and launched itself at Alex, only for chains to erupt from the ground and bind it down.

'Only about a minute left' She thought.

Dozens of damage notices appeared as the beasts seemed to stop trying to avoid her whips and turned feral in their attempts to get past her.

All the attacks on her wings slowly whittled down her health and affected the potency of her whips, her damage losing the 1.5, modifier and returning back in the 90s. Feeling that she only had half a dozen seconds before her wings trait needed to repair themselves, she cast [Feather Storm].

It's potency was less than normal because of how much damage her wings had taken but it was cast in a cramped area so it still had some use. With her health slowly restoring in the area, she cast [Life Drain] to increase her health faster.

With the fog almost depleted, she checked her mana to see how long she could sustain her whips.

[MP: 110/590]

With her mana down to a 1/5th of its usual reserves, she had only two more minutes of casting her whips before she ran out. Thankfully, she only needed to defend him for a couple seconds longer. A screeched echoed, as a Fog Dweller jumped across the area and was about to cancel his absorption spell.

[Runic Shield].

Her shield erected around him, giving him the last couple of seconds he needed to complete his skill. Left without any fog, the creatures seemed to considerably weaken.

'Now it's time for a slaughter' Elya thought.
