Certainly, Dane was stunned that he had spent more than two weeks being unconscious.
Regardless of that, he realised that there was nothing he could do about time lost.
The only thing he had influence over was the now and what was to come.
Dane did not bicker much.
He merely thought about it for a while, recalling what had put him in this situation before considering how he survived.
The entire medical team were also surprised at how quickly he was recovering, not knowing that what had happened was beyond their medical capabilities.
Even Dane didn't know what happened, but he could recall hazy memories that he never knew he had.
Hazy memories of what appeared like digital displays with information and notifications.
They were registered in his memory, but he never remembered actually experiencing these memories.
Nonetheless, he was grateful for his speedy recovery.
Three days had passed since he woke up and the hospital respected his wishes not to have any visitors for these past three days.
Even officials of Grey Corps were not allowed this time around since Dane had the right to make such a request.
Dane was playing it safe.
His first thought, after recollecting the company's end of year party, was that he was poisoned.
By whom? That he did not know yet.
So he needed to be even more careful if that was the case.
He took these past three days as a period of reflection, reconsideration and strategizing.
Dane turned to his right, grabbing the bottle of water that he kept there and taking a drink from it.
He moistened his mouth with it and relished the refreshing taste of cold water running down his guts.
"Ahhh...!" he moaned with satisfaction.
He closed the bottle and held it by his side as he drifted away in his thoughts once again.
'So I was probably poisoned a few weeks ago. Even missed New Year's because I was here at the hospital,' he recalled.
'Hmm. Then I awakened this strange ability that I'm yet to understand how it works, but apparently, it healed me, and I am now indebted to it. A debt of $1,000,000.'
Dane's heart became heavy as he remembered the amount.
If there was anything he would have loved not to be aware of, it would have been the amount of debt he was in.
"Where the fuck am I supposed to get a million dollars from?" he cursed audibly. "My salary for 3 years won't even give me that."
He chuckled like a madman and shook his head.
It seemed like a joke.
Heck, anybody he told his ordeals in the past one month plus would think he was a clown.
But he was healed and fit to do anything just like he found out from the system within the past three days.
Secondly, his debt was still glowed and tagged as "unsettled".
No way it was a joke or a dream.
No one dreams for three days straight.
Dane massaged his forehead and sucked his teeth as he thought about all that has happened.
On the bright side, Dane imagined the prospects of his newfound ability.
Something that had the power to bring him back to life certainly would be able to do even much more.
'I wonder what more I can do,' he thought as he massaged his chin.
'This Casanova System certainly has many prospects from what I have read so far but I have to get out of here first to explore these prospects.'
That was simply the first step to discovering the full potential of his Casanova System.
Being tied down in a hospital bed was not in any way going to help him discover the capabilities of his system, nor was it going to contribute anything towards finding out who tried to kill him.
Heaving a deep and loud sigh, Dane picked up the intercom in his room and dialled the number that was attached to the surface of the table.
He had just placed a call to the reception.
———
Some minutes after discussing with whoever was on the other side of the phone at the receptionist's desk, Dane was still not pleased with the response he was getting.
He impatiently tapped his fingers against each other as he contemplated what next to do.
Everyone he had asked for a discharge, from the nurses down to the receptionist he called, kept mentioning that it was the duty of his doctors to do so.
Until the doctors certified him medically fit for discharge, Dane knew he was going to be stuck here.
The finances was not a problem since he already knew that Grey Corps would cover the bills, but then, he was being delayed from what he could be doing outside of here.
About a total of a little above an hour passed since he placed the call and then the door to his ward creaked open.
"Hello, Mr. Morgans."
"When am I being discharged, doc?" he asked, going straight to the point and disregarding any courtesy greetings.
The doctor only smiled and glanced at the patient sheet he held in his hand.
It was Dane's records being displayed on his tablet.
He scrolled through it again, checking for any abnormalities for the last time.
Dane couldn't resist the urge to want to peep into tablet screen but the doctor was just too far away for him to reach.
In the end, he had to wait to hear what the doctor had to say.
When the doctor was done, he adjusted his glasses over his nose and cleared his throat.
"I'm free to go, yeah?" Dane tried to force a favourable answer out of his mouth.
The doctor chuckled, surprised by how energetic someone who was practically dead when he came here could be.
"Well, Mr. Morgans..."
Dane's face turned solemn.
The tone of the doctor's voice was too neutral for his liking, almost as if he wanted to crush Dane's hopes.
"Your lab works and scans are already out and that was what we have been reviewing for some time now. Forgive the delay."
"It's no problem," Dane replied sharply.
"Well, you are fit for discharge," the doctor informed him, causing Dane to briefly punch the air with an exclamation.
"Yes!"
"I must confess, Mr. Morgans, the speed of your recovery was certainly shocking. It's probably the most miraculous that I've witnessed in my 15 years of practice."
Dane nodded proudly. "Thank you so much, doc. Thanks for everything."
The doctor shook his head. "Don't worry about that. We were just doing our jobs. Anyways whenever you are ready to go, you can always call."
"Thank you once again."
The doctor nodded with a smile and then walked out of the room.
Dane took a few deep breaths and exhaled.
"I get to go home finally..."
