Chapter 1 - C1: New Beginnings

I don't remember how I got here, but it is cozy as hell.

. . .

"The Depths". That's where I currently reside.

As far as I can remember, I was reborn here. I don't remember how or why, but I have a new family here and a life to pursue.

"The Depths". As the locals call it;

Mirmaras. I heard that it was humanity's last stand and was surrounded by terrifying monsters all around.

The outside of my house is gloomy and dark. Our only light source is these weird, colossal, shiny plants.

My family consists of me, my parents, an older brother, and a little sister.

Currently, my body is 14 years old. My parents were amazed by the intelligence I displayed at a young age. So they said that they are saving money to send me to college when I grow up.

But me? I have no intention of spending my life studying and working in this corrupt government.

The king was an asshole; living secluded in his palace, only giving orders and never appearing in public. Although my dad was a civil servant, and it would be considered treason to judge the king, he talked badly about him all the time.

Hearing about this, I had one objective: to not let these fools control me and write my destiny.

The Kingdom of Mirmaras was divided into 3 classes: the wealthy, living in the capital. The middle class/Normal citizens live in 8 different provinces that surround the capital.

And the ones in poverty, living outside the 8 provinces, in the slums, acting as literal meat shields if the monsters get past "The Ascending." What is "The Ascending, " you ask?

Humanity is at the deepest point in this world. And, the higher up you go, the stronger the monsters become.

"The Ascending" is the beginning of this ascend.

I wonder what's up there. Why was humanity locked up in the depths?

That's why I am determined to grow strong in this body and become a wanderer living for myself.

Today was as usual, I woke up in the 'morning' when the plants were just starting to glow.

My house was pretty comfortable and sizy. My siblings and parents all had their bedrooms, and so did I. My room was around 12m², decorated with wood figures I made and books. Yes, this civilization wasn't ancient. It had equal technology to the 80s. With my previous life's knowledge, I was a step ahead of these people.

I got up from my big bed and went to the bathroom. After relieving myself, I brushed my teeth, did my hair a bit, and went downstairs to eat breakfast with my family, who were already prepared.

"Good morning, residents. Is breakfast ready?"

"Orhan, help me prepare the table."

My mom said neutrally.

She was a tranquil woman, still young and strong.

Her straight blonde hair and blue eyes, unfortunately, weren't passed down to this boy. But I have my dad's startling yellow eyes and wavy brown hair.

Yellow eyes? Yes, I don't know how, don't ask me.

By the standards of this world, I am pretty handsome, thanks to my dad's DNA.

As I helped her place the cutlery to our, I glanced to the side of the kitchen; my siblings were sitting on the couch inside the living room.

My sister, Alista, still wasn't fully woken up, and her eyes were half-closed.

My brother, Ajax, was reading the morning newspaper. He had to keep up with the world since after finishing college, he would apply to higher education to become an army leader to conquer the ascend.

My dad was fixing a table that was acting up, and the sounds of hammers hitting wood were very rhythmic and, thus, relaxing this morning.

After finishing preparing the table, I called my family to the table to feast.

"Alista! Ajax! Dad! Food is ready in a second, come sit down here."

My family sat down, and my mom brought the freshly made omelets to the table, sided with coffee to have us awake.

Finishing food first, I head to the downstairs bathroom to relieve myself a second time.

After that's done, I get dressed in my school uniform.

Yes, we had schools, starting from age 5 to 18, and after that was college, followed by higher education.

I was now in high school, attending for the past 5 months. We had just finished semester vacation and were going back to the prison called 'school'.

Getting out of the house, with my rectangle bag on the side of my shoulder, I put on my shoes and closed our door.

I had the same routine in all of my school life. Walk together with my friend, Faith, who was like a comrade to me at this point. We both had similar futures planned ahead of us and were planning to become wanderers.

Since we lived on the same street, we met in the middle and walked to school.

This morning, he looked pretty fucked up since he never liked school; the only reason he even went there was to hang out with me.

His blonde hair was made to a messy middle part, and his blue eyes were devoid of spirit.

With his fedora on top, he just looked like a lifeless doll at this point.

"Tough morning ain't it?"

"Dude, my parents are so strict about becoming a civil servant. What's so special about it when you have the depths to explore!?"

He said with a frustrated smile.

"Relax, man, I know. Don't worry; we'll undoubtedly become wanderers."

"Thank you for being out there for me, Orhan. Did god send you from heaven, I wonder."

I smile.

*I don't know myself, buddy.*

. . .

Navigating the complex structure of the city. With bricks upon bricks and the color variation, this city was very beautiful.

I compare the structures to Prague, which I visited in my previous life.

"Solar City High."

"Here we are again, man.."

We walk into the 4 story building that can store up to 8000 students.

The first floor that's holding 2000 9th graders had 40 classes that consisted of 50 people each.

Faith and I were in the second class, ranked by the academic scores.

We didn't have any other friends, so we sat beside each other in these 2 person desks.

We arrived at our homeroom and sat down as we were used to.

"Welcome back, children!!"

The unsightly bastard yelled at the class.
