Emily couldn't take it anymore. She had had enough of Emma's attitude and accusations. "You know what, Emma?" Emily said, her voice firm. "I'm going to call Mom."
Emma looked up, surprised, as Emily picked up the phone and dialed their mom's number.
"Mom, I don't know what's wrong with Emma," Emily said, trying to explain the situation. "She's been giving me attitude and I don't know why. It's over something so unnecessary."
Their mom listened patiently, then immediately called Emma on her own phone. "Emma, I want to see you and Emily at home today," she said firmly. "I don't want this to wait until tomorrow. Come home now."
Emma and Emily looked at each other, then quickly packed a few belongings and got into the car. The ride home was long and silent, with neither twin speaking to the other.
Meanwhile, Doctor Jack arrived home, exhausted from his long drive. As he pulled up to his mansion, he was greeted by his staff, who quickly got to work unloading his bags.
Doctor Jack's mom, a warm and elegant woman, came out to greet him. "Welcome home, dear," she said, hugging him tightly. "I've missed you."
Doctor Jack smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. "Thanks, Mom," he said. "It's good to be home."
As he walked into the house, Doctor Jack was followed by his butler, Jenkins. "Sir, would you like something to eat?" Jenkins asked.
Doctor Jack shook his head. "No, thank you, Jenkins. I'm not hungry."
Jenkins nodded, understanding. "Very well, sir. I'll make sure you're not disturbed."
Doctor Jack's father had been a wealthy real estate magnate, who had left a huge chunk of his wealth to his son. Doctor Jack had inherited not only his father's wealth but also his business acumen. He was now the owner of a very big private hospital, and was well-respected in his field.
As Doctor Jack walked into his room, he couldn't help but think about Emily. He wondered what she was doing, and if she was thinking about him too.
Back at the twins' home, their mom was waiting anxiously for them to arrive. As they walked into the house, Emily immediately apologized. "Mom, I'm sorry. I know Emma and I haven't been getting along, and I promise we'll do better."
Their mom looked at them with a mixture of sadness and frustration. "What's the problem, girls?" she asked. "What's going on between you two?"
Emma spoke up, her voice accusatory. "Mom, I told Emily about a guy I liked, and then she went and flirted with him!"
Their mom turned to Emily. "Emily, dear, is this true?"
Emily shook her head. "No, Mom. Emma was there the whole time. The guy walked up to me and started talking to me. He even offered to take us out, but I declined. He still insisted, and Emma was fine with it. When we went out, he turned to me and said he liked me and wanted to get to know me better. That's when Emma exploded, Mom."
Their mom looked at Emma, surprised. "Is this true, Emma?"
Emma looked down, unable to meet her mom's eyes.
Emily continued to explain. "Mom, I'm not even interested in the guy, but Emma won't let me breathe because of him. I told her I wouldn't have anything to do with him, but she's still giving me attitude."
Their mom sighed, looking at her daughters with a mixture of sadness and frustration. "I don't know what to do with you two," she said. "You're twins, blood sisters. Why can't you get along?"
Emma looked at their mom and said, "Mom, Emily is lying. What happened was that I told Emily that I liked this guy, and she said to me that she thinks he's cute. Then Emily started flirting with him. She flirted with him to the point of even collecting his business card. I had to collect it back from Emily."
Their mom looked at Emily, who shook her head. "That's not true, Mom. I didn't flirt with him. He approached me and started talking to me. I even declined his offer to take us out."
Emma continued, her voice rising. "And then he turned to her because she kept giving him eye contact, even after knowing that I saw him first, I met him first, he approached me first. And Emily kept giving him eye contact to the point where he said to Emily that he likes Emily and he would like to get to know her better. And Mom, that was when I knew Emily is not just my sister, she's an enemy to me."
Emily looked at Emma, shocked. "Emma, why would you say that about me? You know that's not true. I even declined his offer and promised not to have anything to do with him."
Their mom looked at both girls, her expression calm and wise. "I love you both girls, and I would not like to see you guys turn apart over some guy, some dude that we don't even know. We don't even know his last name. So now, let me say something to you girls. It's always better for a man to chase a woman than for a woman to chase a man. And if this guy thinks he likes Emily, why don't you girls chill and see where he will get to?"
Emily spoke up, her voice firm. "Mom, I'm not even interested. That's the point. The point is I'm not even interested."
Emma snorted. "She will tell you she's not interested, but the next thing you'll see is that the guy is all around campus looking for her. I know people like you. You pretend to be the good girls, but in reality, they are just the enemy."
Their mom looked at both girls, her expression firm and determined. "I don't want to hear that name or anything about that individual in my home again," she said. "He's a total stranger, and he's not worth two blood sisters fighting themselves over. This should be the end of that name."
Emma and Emily looked at each other, then back at their mom. Emma nodded in agreement, but deep down, she was happy that if she couldn't have the guy, then Emily couldn't have him either. Emma was excited about the fact that their mom didn't want to hear about the guy again, and that meant Emily wouldn't be able to pursue him either.
"If the guy thinks he's interested in either one of you," their mom continued, "he should come and visit me, as the mother of the twins. I want to know which of my daughters he's interested in, and what his intentions are. I want to know why he's making my twin girls fight over him."
Emma nodded again, trying to hide her smile. She was happy that her mom had put her f
oot down, and that Emily wouldn't be able to pursue the guy anymore.
