On this ordinary day, Jet—a Fairy Tail wizard whose name Kira often forgot—arrived at Kira's shop. Known affectionately (or mockingly) as "Speed Licking A Man" by some of the guild members, Jet came in blushing furiously.
"You said you're going to confess to Levy?" Kira asked, raising an eyebrow.
Jet nodded shyly, his voice shaking. "Yes! You know, Levy and I… we've known each other forever. We grew up together. You could say we're childhood sweethearts. I've liked her for as long as I can remember!"
"Ah… childhood sweethearts, huh? How... tragic."
Kira's inner monologue kicked in. Poor Jet, clinging to the "childhood sweetheart" narrative when we all know that fate favors the new arrivals. Levy already has someone lined up to sweep her off her feet.
"So, why are you here then? Do you want me to deliver your love letter?"
"No, it's just…" Jet hesitated, rubbing the back of his head nervously. "I don't have much experience with this kind of thing."
Oh, so you're admitting your inexperience to me? And you think I'm a love expert? Kira thought sarcastically, resisting the urge to slap some sense into Jet.
Jet continued, "You're always inventing these incredible magic items, right? I was wondering if you had anything that could—"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Stop right there!" Kira cut him off. "This is a legitimate magic shop! I don't sell those kinds of items you read about in questionable novels!"
"What are you even talking about?!" Jet's face twisted in confusion. "I just meant, do you have any gifts that girls might like?"
"...Oh," Kira said, feeling slightly embarrassed. He pondered for a moment. "Different girls like different things. Most of them are expensive, by the way! And this is a magic shop, not a boutique!"
"Really? But I thought… Never mind. Thanks anyway." Jet turned, crestfallen, and started heading toward the door.
Whoosh!
Before Jet could leave, Kira zipped around and blocked the exit with a dramatic flourish.
"Wait a second, Jet! On second thought, I do have some magic items that girls might like!"
"Huh? But you just said—"
"I said magic items. Not ordinary gifts." Kira gestured for Jet to come back in. "Listen, you came to the right place. I'm Fairy Tail's resident genius and intelligence chief. I know everything about everyone in the guild, including Levy's preferences."
Jet's face lit up with hope.
"As long as you can afford it, I'll not only provide the perfect gift but also help you set up the most memorable confession scene she's ever experienced!"
Jet felt his chest swell with excitement. "What is it? Tell me, Kira! If it works, I'll owe you for life!"
Kira leaned in conspiratorially, lowering his voice. "Here's what you're going to do…"
The next day, Jet worked up the courage to ask Levy to the library.
Using Kira's advice, he approached Levy with a plausible excuse: "Hey, Levy! I've been thinking about studying magic theory more seriously. Would you mind going to the library with me today? You're the smartest person I know, so I'd love your help."
Levy, ever the bookworm, immediately agreed. "Of course! That sounds like fun!"
For the occasion, Jet dressed to impress. He traded his usual denim coat and cowboy hat for a smart, casual outfit that Kira had helped him pick out. With freshly styled hair and new clothes, Jet looked refreshed and ready to win Levy's heart.
"This new look is sure to catch her attention!" Jet told himself, though his nerves made him pace anxiously near the girls' dormitory.
Meanwhile, Kira watched from a distance, hidden behind a tree. Through a telepathic headset—a nifty magic item he'd invented—Kira guided Jet step by step.
"Jet, calm down! She's coming out now. Just greet her casually, like you always do."
"Good morning, Levy!" Jet said, trying to sound confident. His voice trembled slightly.
Levy emerged, carrying her "Big Data Catalog," a magical prop Kira had gifted her that connected to the guild's library collection. "Morning, Jet. Wow, you look different today! Is that a new outfit?"
Jet's face turned red as Levy smiled politely. "Y-yeah! I just thought I'd try something new."
"It looks great! You look really sharp!" Levy said, her tone friendly but casual.
Jet nearly melted on the spot. She complimented me! She thinks I look good! Kira was right—this outfit was worth every jewel!
"Idiot! Stop grinning like a weirdo!" Kira's voice snapped through the headset.
Jet quickly straightened up. "Where's Droy? I thought he was coming with us today."
"Oh, uh, Droy had something urgent to do, so it's just the two of us," Jet lied smoothly, following Kira's script.
Levy didn't seem to suspect anything. "Oh, okay! Let's go then!"
As they walked toward the library, Levy hummed a cheerful tune, seemingly in a good mood. Jet, however, trailed nervously behind her, unable to muster the courage to walk side by side.
Kira, watching from a safe distance, groaned in frustration. "Jet, what are you doing? Walk next to her! You look like a creepy stalker trailing behind!"
"But what should I say?" Jet whispered into the headset.
"I don't know—ask if she's tired or thirsty! Just say something!"
Jet hesitated but finally managed to blurt out, "Levy, are you thirsty? Hungry? Want to take a break?"
Levy glanced back at him, puzzled. "I'm fine, Jet. Thanks, though."
By the time they reached the library, Levy seemed slightly annoyed by Jet's over-the-top concern. She quickly disappeared into the magic book section, leaving Jet standing awkwardly in the main hall.
[Kira, I think I messed up. Levy looks upset.]
[Of course, she's upset! You came on too strong. Just stick to the plan and give her some space while she reads.]
By lunchtime, Jet was ready for the next phase of the plan: presenting Levy with a homemade bento.
Kira, disguised as a ninja, snuck into the library and handed Jet the bento box.
Jet approached Levy nervously. "Levy, I made this for you to thank you for helping me today. I hope you'll like it!"
Levy looked up, surprised. "Oh, wow! You made this yourself? That's so sweet of you, Jet!"
Encouraged by her reaction, Jet grinned and held out the bento. "Please accept it!"
Unfortunately, in his excitement, Jet's voice rose to an embarrassing volume, echoing through the library. Everyone turned to look, stifling laughter or outright giggling.
Levy's face turned bright red. "Th-thank you, Jet, but I, uh, just remembered I have plans with Lucy this afternoon! Sorry, I have to go!"
Before Jet could respond, Levy grabbed her things and bolted, leaving him standing alone in the library with the bento still in his hands.
From behind a bookshelf, Kira sighed heavily. Well, that could've gone better.
Jet slumped to the floor, his confidence shattered. "I'm hopeless, aren't I?"
"Not hopeless," Kira muttered to himself, "just… painfully bad at this."
