Chereads / The Cursed fool / Chapter 5 - ##Chapter 4

Chapter 5 - ##Chapter 4

"What the hell, Mom? Are you sure this is the right place, or did you rob some rich guy?" Andrea stared in disbelief at the massive villa in front of him. Its sleek design, with towering glass windows and sharp geometric edges, screamed wealth.

His mother sighed, exasperated. "For the last time, Andrea, this is our family home. Do you think I'd steal something this obvious?" she snapped, smacking him lightly on the back of his head.

"Ow! What was that for?!" Andrea grumbled.

"To knock some sense into that thick skull of yours," she replied. Now stop gawking and help unload the car. The movers will be here soon, and it is your uncle who built this ."

"Uncle Ben?" Andrea asked absently.

"No, Uncle Link," she corrected.

"Oh, Mr. Four-Eyes," Andrea muttered under his breath.

"Stop calling him that!" she called out, her patience thin.

(C/N: Andrea turns and faces the screen.)

"Hello again, reader. Let me give you a quick rundown of my mom's family because, trust me, they're worth knowing:

Grandpa: Jonah Rein, whom I call Big D (don't ask).Grandma: Rose Rein—strict and untouchable.Mom: Laura Rein, a nurse.Uncle Ben: Works in the Ministry of Defense.Uncle Link: A business mogul with more money than sense.Aunt Belle: An archaeologist who's always off the grid.My mom's side of the family? Filthy rich."

"Andrea! Come here!" his mom's voice broke his train of thought.

"What's up?" Andrea asked, jogging over.

"Follow me," she said with a knowing smile, pressing a button on her key fob.

The garage door rolled up to reveal a lineup of luxury cars.

"This is unreal," Andrea muttered.

His mom led him to a specific section. "Your uncles and aunt pitched in to get you a car. Since they couldn't agree, they bought options: a Bugatti, Pagani, Rolls-Royce, Maybach, and a Grand Wagoneer. Take your pick."

Andrea blinked. "Seriously...?"

"Yes. Now grab your luggage. Your room's waiting," she instructed, walking away.

Later that night, after unpacking, Andrea relaxed in his room—a massive 320-square-foot sanctuary with all the comforts of a luxury hotel. He sprawled onto the king-sized bed with a satisfied sigh, taking it all in.

Ding!

[System Initiated.]

[Welcome, Andrea, to the Nightmare System.]

[Permission to access the beginner reward?]

[Yes] [No]

"You said what now?" Andrea blurted, staring at the strange text floating in front of him. He glanced around the room, half expecting some hidden speaker to chime in. "Is this the home monitor AI talking or something?"

[Permission to access Beginner Package]

[Yes] [No]

Andrea blinked. Then blinked again.

"Nope. Nope. Nope. What the hell is this?" he muttered, waving his hand like he could swat the text away.

The options remained, hovering persistently.

[Yes] [No]

"Hold up—wait!" Andrea flailed, sitting upright on his bed. "Is this... is this my cheat for transmigration? Don't tell me the cosmic lunatic who sent me here actually came through!"

He paused, glaring at the screen. "Wait a second. What's with this bargain-bin interface? Where's the fancy hologram, the epic voiceover? Who do I talk to about this? I want to speak to the manager!"

Andrea's voice rose in pitch as he waved his arms around aimlessly, yelling at his ceiling. If someone had been watching, they'd probably think he was suffering from a serious mental breakdown.

He flopped back onto the bed, groaning loudly. "Why do I feel like I'm in one of those novels where the MC gets the system, but it's cursed?"

The text didn't respond.

"...Fine, I'll play along," Andrea muttered, his hand hovering over the "Yes" option.

[Yes] [No]

"This is some bullshit," Andrea muttered under his breath. Without thinking, he slammed his finger on the "Yes" button, cursing his impulsive decision as soon as he did it.

Andrea's head throbbed as the information flooded in, the system's presence practically suffocating him.

"Hiss!" He gritted his teeth, feeling an inexplicable irritation creep up his spine. "Who the hell created this system?"

He let out an exasperated scream, throwing his arms up in frustration. "Seriously, who sold their brain to get this thing working? What, so if I didn't press Yes, this whole thing would've just been useless—ugh!"

His eyes narrowed as the system seemed to taunt him with its cold, indifferent interface. "This is messed up. I swear, someone's laughing at me right now."

In the Void

"Hahaha!" A deep, eerie laugh echoed through the endless expanse of the void. The figure, a shadowy presence, rolled on the unseen ground, howling with laughter as he watched Andrea through a television-like portal.

The portal flickered with a cold, glowing light, showing Andrea in his frustration, unaware of the unseen eyes on him.

"Who knows? You're making it harder for the boy," Yahweh said, his tone laced with concern as he watched %##% continue laughing uncontrollably.

"Relax," %##% replied casually as if it were no big deal. "The system may seem useless, but it's here to help. It's not about giving him overpowered skills—the real power lies in his entire being. After all, he comes from &##@#%$#

"If you say so," Yahweh replied, brushing off the matter for another day, clearly indifferent to %##%'s words.

"Hm! I should at least check the reward," Andrea muttered, staring at the notification from the system. He paused. "Wait, how do I check the Reward description and the system? Some of it seems self-explanatory, but what about the rest? The damn system should help me out here!"

Frustrated, Andrea's eyes finally landed on a reward labeled "Help."

Andrea clicked on the "Help" option, and a search tab appeared.

"Okay," he muttered, typing, "What is the Nightmare System?"

A response appeared almost immediately:

[The Nightmare System is the universal code codex created by ???, assigned to the host to make them a powerful being in the universe.]

**[Function - Transfer the host to a Horror episode each month, where the host must kill the assigned nightmare in each scenario.

For every nightmare you kill, you can choose a reward from either the host's stats or skills from the nightmare.]

Andrea's eyes widened as he read the next line.

[Warning: Death in the scene leads to permanent death in real life...]
