Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten

The council chamber was abuzz with a mixture of fear and urgency. Word had reached the Everscent pack that the dark lord, a malevolent force whose name was spoken in hushed whispers, had been moving through the supernatural realms in search of the legendary Moon Gems. His conquests were swift and brutal, leaving destruction in his wake.

Marcus, as Alpha, wasted no time calling an urgent council meeting. The pack elders, warriors, and trusted advisors gathered under the dim light of the moonstone chandelier that hung over the Great Hall. The room, typically a place of tradition and wisdom, now felt like the epicenter of a storm.

Marcus stood at the head of the stone table, his presence commanding the attention of everyone in the room. His sharp features were set in a grim expression, his voice steady but filled with a sense of foreboding.

"We have received credible information," he began, his voice cutting through the low murmurs, "that the dark lord has turned his gaze toward our pack."

A ripple of unease swept through the room. The dark lord was no ordinary enemy. His power, fueled by dark magic and an army of loyal followers, made him a threat even to the strongest packs.

Elder Arly, always quick to voice his doubts, leaned forward. "If he is truly after the Moon Gems, then Celestial is the reason he will come here. This pack have no moon gem, but the dark lord might have sensed it powers when Celestial summoned the moon, and he has traced it to our pack."

Marcus's eyes narrowed. "Celestial is not the cause of this threat. The Moon Gems have been sought after for centuries."

"But her presence accelerates the risk," Arly countered, his tone sharp. "We cannot ignore that. The pack's safety must come first."

Elder Lyanna interjected, her voice calm but firm. "And abandoning her would not save us. The prophecy is clear: the Moon Gems' guardian is the key to both uniting and protecting the supernatural realms. If we turn our backs on her now, we weaken ourselves and hand the dark lord the very thing he desires."

Marcus raised a hand, silencing the growing tension. "This is not a time for division. The dark lord is a threat to us all, and we must act as one if we are to survive. I propose we strengthen our defenses immediately."

Haldric, the elder statesman of the pack, nodded in agreement. "We must enforce more guards along our borders. Patrols should be doubled, and our warriors must be prepared for an attack at any moment."

"And vigilance," added Lyanna. "Every member of the pack must remain alert. The dark lord's forces are known for their stealth and cunning. If we become complacent, we will fall before we even realize we are under attack."

Marcus turned to the pack's lead warriors. "Assign your best fighters to the borders. Rotate shifts so that no one grows weary. We need eyes and ears everywhere."

As the council deliberated, the focus inevitably shifted to Celestial. Though young, her connection to the Moon Gems made her a central figure in the unfolding events.

"She must be protected at all costs," Lyanna said, her tone leaving no room for argument. "If the dark lord believes she is the key to finding or harnessing the Moon Gems, he will stop at nothing to capture her."

Arly's lips thinned. "And what if her presence endangers us further? Have we considered hiding her away, sending her far from the pack until the danger has passed?"

Marcus's voice was like steel. "Celestial will not be hidden. She is my daughter and a part of this pack. She will stay here, under my protection, and she will be trained to defend herself."

The council members exchanged uneasy glances. While some agreed with Marcus's resolve, others feared the risks it entailed.

After hours of debate, the council reached a resolution: The borders of the Everscent pack's territory would be fortified with additional guards and patrols. Scouts would be sent to neighboring territories to gather intelligence on the dark lord's movements.

The warriors of the pack would undergo intensive training to ensure they were ready for battle. Every wolf, regardless of rank, would be prepared to fight if necessary.

The pack would remain united in the face of the looming threat. Any dissent or division would be dealt with swiftly, as it could weaken their ability to defend against the dark lord.
