Chereads / Celestial - The Hybrid Warrior / Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve

Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve

The pack moved swiftly, their years of training kicking into action. Warriors armed themselves with claws, fangs, and weapons forged from silver and enchanted steel. The weaker, older wolves, and the young were ushered toward the escape paths.

"Stay close and follow the elders," Marcus commanded as he directed the evacuation. His voice was steady, a pillar of strength even in the face of overwhelming danger.

Celestial stood at his side, her heart pounding in her chest. She saw the fear in the eyes of the pups as they were led away and felt a surge of determination.

"Go with them, Celestial," Marcus said, his tone softer now.

"No," she said firmly, her small frame vibrating with defiance. "I'm not leaving you."

"Celestial—"

"I can fight, Father. I will fight."

Marcus sighed, a mixture of pride and worry crossing his face. "Then stay close to me."

The dark lord's army descended upon the pack like a flood. The monstrous creatures charged first, their roars splitting the air as they clashed with the Everscent warriors.

Marcus led the charge, his powerful form a blur of strength and precision. His claws tore through enemies, his howls rallying the pack even as they faced impossible odds.

Celestial stayed by his side, using the wooden sword she had trained with to defend herself. Though she was small, her movements were quick and precise, the training Marcus had given her shining through.

But the enemy's numbers were overwhelming. For every creature they brought down, two more seemed to take its place.

The vampires entered the fray, their speed and cunning adding a new layer of terror to the battle. They moved like shadows, striking down warriors before disappearing into the night.

The pack fought valiantly, their unity and loyalty to one another evident in every strike. But the reality was clear—they were outnumbered and outmatched.

In the chaos, Marcus caught sight of Arly leading a group of warriors toward the weakest point in their defenses.

"Hold the line!" Marcus roared, his voice cutting through the noise.

Arly nodded, his expression grim as he rallied his fighters.

Celestial found herself separated from Marcus for a moment as a group of shadow creatures descended upon her. Her sword broke as she fought them off, her human strength barely enough to keep them at bay.

A monstrous creature lunged at her, its claws aiming for her throat. Before it could strike, Marcus appeared, his massive form shielding her. With a savage roar, he tore the creature apart.

"Stay behind me!" he barked, his voice filled with both anger and fear.

Celestial nodded, tears streaming down her face as she watched her father fight with everything he had.

The dark lord's forces began to press harder, their numbers driving the pack back toward the heart of their territory. Marcus knew they couldn't hold out much longer.

When a group of vampires broke through the line and headed straight for Celestial, Marcus made his choice.

"Run!" he shouted, his voice filled with desperation.

"No!" Celestial cried, refusing to leave his side.

Marcus turned to her, his eyes softening for a brief moment. "You are the future, Celestial. You must survive."

With that, he lunged toward the vampires, his powerful body slamming into them with such force that the ground shook. He fought with everything he had, giving the pack the time they needed to regroup and retreat.

Celestial watched in horror as her father was overwhelmed by the enemy. He fought valiantly, his roars echoing through the night, but even he couldn't withstand the sheer numbers of the dark lord's army.

"Father!" she screamed, her voice breaking as she tried to run to him.

Arly appeared, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her back. "We have to go, Celestial!" he said, his voice harsh but filled with grief.

"No! I can't leave him!" she sobbed, struggling against his grip.

"He's doing this for you!" Arly shouted. "Don't waste his sacrifice!"

With one final, heart-wrenching look at her father, Celestial allowed herself to be pulled away, tears streaming down her face as the sounds of battle faded behind her.

The survivors of the Everscent pack gathered in a hidden clearing, their numbers significantly reduced. The younger wolves huddled together, their faces pale with fear and grief.

Celestial sat apart from the others, her small body trembling as she clutched the broken pieces of her sword.

Arly approached her, his usual stern expression softened by sorrow. "He was a great alpha," he said quietly.

Celestial didn't respond, her eyes fixed on the ground.

"He believed in you," Arly continued. "Don't let his sacrifice be in vain."

Slowly, Celestial looked up, her tear-streaked face filled with a new resolve. "I won't," she whispered.
