Chereads / Heroes of Veridia: Evelyn's Journey / Chapter 35 - Chapter 35

Chapter 35 - Chapter 35

The armed men stood outside, waiting for us to come out. Their screams and movements could be heard through the closed door.

"Let's go back and find another way," Vanessa suggested.

"We spent one hour before we found this one. I'm not going back," I said to her. That's not to say how hot this place is. Finding a place to cool down should be my priority.

Vanessa approached me and grabbed my sweater with one hand, "If we go out there we would get killed. You are standing here smiling for a reason I know nothing of," with her other hand, she pulled me closer and whispered, "Clara isn't going out there."

"Are you whispering because she won't accept your decision?" her face creased into a frown at my question. Raising both hands, my apology seemed to have calmed her a little.

Clara requested to know what Vanessa whispered but got no answer from me. "You will have to cover your ears," she informed us and began to walk toward the door until Vanessa stopped her and told her to stay back, "but-"

"If anything happens to you, I'm not going to forgive myself," Vanessa told Clara. She then wrapped her arms around her tightly.

A disappointed look crossed my face as my bottom lip pushed forward into a pout. Clara's vibration would have been great to witness. Too bad she can't do it. Letting out a loud sigh, the two girls received my command to stand behind my two soldiers.

"Start shooting," As soon as the door swung open, a bullet grazed my leg, however, upon hearing my voice, the shooting stopped. Coming out with just a graze was a surprise. Mind blank and eye color matching mine, the crowd went silent. They couldn't resist my emotional control.

"All these for five intruders?" People had filled the streets before us. Buildings and windows around us were filled with armed men and women. They were too much. I have no idea whether they have a grudge against Victor or not. But, I have done nothing to deserve this kind of welcome. "Who cares?" my soldiers got into position beside me to open fire on the people, but I stopped them. I'm not going to kill all those people.

"Your gift is terrifying," Vanessa stated as the two girls ran to my side. "How long can you keep stopping them," she asked.

"I have no idea," the armed crowd received an order from me.

They discarded their weapons and any dangerous things on them before beginning to march outside. They were marching to 'Heroic Heights' to get arrested. They will get captured as soon as they reach the eastern waterfront.

"They would have to swim across," Clara stated.

"They have been here the whole time. There's a way they use to get to Veridia safely," I closed the door as soon as the last person went in. My control of them was still intact. When they realize what they have done, it would be too late.

"Let's go. There's someone who can help us," an attempt to walk caused me to flinch. My right leg was grazed by a bullet, however, I had forgotten about it.

"You're bleeding again," Vanessa knelt beside me and pulled my sweatpants up to see the wound.

"That's nothing. It would heal soon-"

"WHY DID YOU FLINCH IF IT WAS NOTHING?!" she yelled at me. What's her problem? She keeps acting like a mother to everyone.

Ignoring her, I looked away, waiting for her to finish with what she was doing. Her warm hands touching close to the wound on my leg made me flinch again. She apologized before tying a rough cloth around my leg.

"Done. Before you say anything, this wasn't too much for a small wound. What do you expect us to do if anything happens to you," she told me. I shrugged and shook my head, telling her I wasn't going to say anything.

The temperature in this underground city was making me uncomfortable. We need to hurry up and get out of here. Pulling my hood off, we walked to a location in one of the people's thoughts, three matching buildings stood beside each other. His thoughts showed their boss in one of those buildings, however, his face could not be seen.

"Let's get this over with," Vanessa looked pumped about leaving this hell hole.

My smile widened at her enthusiasm. The air suddenly became heavy, interfering with our movement. It was as though someone placed heavy weights on our shoulders.

"You came at the wrong time," A rough voice said.

The pressure was increasing. Upon a successful attempt to look up, three people approached us. A mask adorned the middle guy's face. He must be the boss.

"What are children from Veridia doing here? Are you spies sent by the hero organization? Who sent you?" his strained voice meant he wasn't feeling well. He got rid of my shades and lifted my chin to look into my eyes.

How are they not affected by the gravity? Is this his gift?

The others were still on the island. Any attempt to use that on this guy would be problematic if it were to fail.

"We are not spies," sweat dripped down my face as I used everything in me to keep myself on my feet.

"Leave her alone," Vanessa yelled.

The masked man slapped her with his backhand, making her give in to the pressure.

Ignoring the consequences of what would happen if I failed to take control of him, I made an uncertain attempt. However, my head was attacked by an intense pain. The visions started appearing in my mind again.

The 'boss' who was standing before me, appeared in my mind. This time he had his mask off. A huge scar marked the left side of his face. A man and a woman in a cage materialized behind him in my mind. I couldn't see their faces because they were blurred, however, they reminded me of the people I saw in my vision earlier. It's as if they're trying to tell me something. The trident that was in the caged man's hands was now in the masked man's hand. Has he done something to them?

"Flip the coin!" someone's voice brought me out of my thoughts. Smoke bombs went off, creating a camouflage. The man's gravity stopped and movement was mine again. Quickly looking to my left, a coin was thrown at me.

He told me to flip it. What would happen if I flipped it? Maybe, having no idea of what would happen, I did what he said and flipped the coin. My surroundings changed. The coin teleported me to a different place. Faulty lights and signs were around the room. Damaged chairs and a counter, must be an abandoned bar.

The boy who told me to flip my coin appeared beside me. Wasting no time, his face met my hands. He fell back with a thud and began moving away as I approached him.

"I just saved your life," he barked.

"You should have saved the others. I can take care of myself," a pair of rough hands got hold of my arm. He pulled me away from the boy.

"He saved your life. A sensible person would thank him," the man's grip on my arm tightened.

Shaking my head, I said to him, "You want me to thank the guy who put my friends in danger? Yeah, no thanks. Now if you would be a gentleman and stop hurting me, I'm going to help my friends."

"You can't go out there alone," the boy approached us, "you need us to help you save your friends." He frowned at me as he talked. The man was still holding my hand.

"How long are you going to keep holding my hand?" I asked him.

He looked at me and said, "If you try anything stupid, you will regret it."

Smiling, I asked him, "Is that a threat?"

He let go of my arm and joined a group of guys I had no idea were among us. My arm is probably sore because of him.

"I apologize for his behavior. It's only been a day since that fool took over, but he has managed to mess everything up. My name is Ethan, nice to meet you," he extended his arm. Really? After all that just happened, he still wanted to shake hands with me. He retreated his hand after noticing me look back and forth at him and his extended hand.

"Important question, why did you save me?" Had he given to coin to Clara or Vanessa, dealing with those three would have been easy since my control over the hundred or more people we met earlier, was lost. Even if I couldn't, his gift wavered. My soldiers would have done the job.

"You came here to save Selene, didn't you?" he questioned, "she was captured by that maniac."

Now, this is getting interesting, "How did a vampire get herself caught by that good-for-nothing 'Isaac Newton'?" Hearing the news of Selene's capture was so good that, I forgot about his question. I shook my head and told him, "Don't answer. I didn't come here for her, and, I'm not going to work with people like you. I'm just a sixteen-year-old innocent girl. How do you expect me to be of help?"

He chuckled, "That's a lot coming from someone who wanted to go after the maniac alone."

I pretended to laugh at his joke, "knight in shining armor." I don't know why that came out of my mouth.
