Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: An army

"Two days," I put two fingers in Ethan's face, "I'm only staying here for two days. I will rescue them myself if you don't devise a plan now."

"Again, what will a sixteen-year-old do against a whole army? How did you even get past the five hundred guards at the entrance?" Ethan asked.

"Why would someone let five hundred people guard an entrance? Who is he scared of?" I questioned. Five hundred guards? I took control of five hundred people? Now that's unbelievable. Surely, they must be fewer than he mentioned. Still, that was impressive.

"One of our guys escaped. The 'boss' is afraid he might return with others to attack him," Ethan answered. He walked me to the counter. There, he placed a small laptop on the counter and opened it. A live view of multiple locations was displayed on it. He pointed to one with the entrance, "You came through this door, right?"

Answering with a nod, I asked him when he set all the cameras around the city. He said earlier that the masked man only came here yesterday and took over everything, so how did he do it?

"You would understand when I tell you about my gift, however, I'm not going to do that since you don't trust us," a cocky smile appeared on his face. Ethan maximized another video on the screen. The three matching buildings I saw in one of the guard's memories were shown. "I suspect your friends are in one of these buildings," he said.

"Do you know how to get in?" I asked.

He shook his head, "I already told you he took over yesterday."

"So what? You've been here the whole time and never entered those buildings before?"

He pursed his lips and looked at me, "This city wasn't here yesterday. We only had a single building where we used to give objectives to people to accomplish. He did all this when he came here. The person's gift was impressive."

I gave him a nod and asked him what he had in mind.

"You still haven't answered my question," he said.

"I sent everyone above ground," I answered.

He narrowed his eyes at me and asked how I did that.

"You would understand if you knew about my gift, however, since I don't trust you, I can't tell you" I repeated his words, emphasizing the 'I'.

He nodded with a smile before calling everyone to the counter, "Do any of you know how we could do this without dying?"

The man who grabbed my arm gave a suggestion, "She's been yapping about going to rescue them alone. We should let her go alone. If she gets killed, we make another plan and avoid her mistakes." He turned to the others and asked their thoughts on his suggestion.

"Perfect plan, what do you think?" I asked Ethan.

"We have to do this together," he announced, "We must hurry. We don't know what he is going to do to our friends, so please stop joking."

I rolled my eyes at him and tuned out on the rest of the conversation. I have to find a way to stop his gravity if I am to go alone. It must have a distance limitation. That way, he won't be able to get me from far. Those guards above ground might also be useful. Nice idea!

"Evelyn?!" Ethan called out, "Are you listening?"

"What?"

He began to explain their plan but I stopped him, "Screw any plans you guys just made. I have a better one."

"What is it?" the man blurted.

"Hold your horses," I faced Ethan and explained to him, "about what I said earlier, sending the guards above ground. I could do the same and use my gift to make them attack the masked man. What do you think?"

Ethan's eyes widened with disbelief, "You controlled five hundred people?"

I repeatedly nodded as he asked the question, "I was shocked myself when you told me they were five hundred."

"That would be great?" he smiled nervously. Does he think I will use my gift on him? "Does it have any weakness?"

He flinched under my touch, "I'm not going to tell you that. Just know that I won't use my ability on you... unless you try something stupid of course."

He shook his head and faced the group. "If we use her approach, we will be able to rescue everyone today."

"I need to go up there to get them under my control. Also," I gestured to my eye color, "anyone with glowing pale green eyes is under my control. Just wanted you to know. Now teleport me out there."

"Alone?! What if they attack you?" one of the guys shouted.

"Will you be alright up there?" Ethan asked

"We are not friends," Looking into his eyes, I approached him and said, "I just want to save my friends and get what I came here for, then, I'm out of here. You can do what you want. If you can't take me up there, tell me the way."

"He saved your life," the man sneered.

"I will help rescue your friends if you take me up there. You guys are bad people. Why do you even care about me?" I asked.

"Okay," Ethan said. He took out coins from his bag. "Open both hands." He placed a coin in my left hand and another in my right hand. "The coin in your right hand will bring you here. The left will take you up there. Stay safe."

What's with this guy and my safety? Are they really bad people? Shrugging, I dismissed the thought and immediately flipped the left coin.

A cool breeze washed away the heat that was driving me mad. Staying in that hellhole for so long almost made me crazy. I was standing at the beach. The temperature had gone down a little, still hot but better than before. The wind made the trees dance in the air.

The guards I sent out of the city were still trying to get back into the city. Some were trying to pry the trapdoor open while others were arguing. Not even one of them is innocent. That's why no one is trying to cross over to Veridia. Or the new boss has destroyed their mode of transport?

"There she is," one of them shouted. Everyone turned to look at me. They were standing at a high ground, looking down at me on the beach. The man who shouted jumped down and started running toward me.

"Are you going to fight girl?" a smile appeared on my face when he stopped in his tracks. He looked at me with his now glowing pale green eyes.

"What did you do to him?" his friend jumped down after him. He grabbed the man and made him look at him, asking if he was okay. The man's words cut off midsentence as he looked at me. His eye color had also changed to a pale green color.

"That can also happen?" I muttered. My smile widened as I walked up to them. The people standing above eyed me suspiciously. "Tag everyone," I whispered to them. They both turned back and began walking toward the group. Another guy walked over to them, probably wanting to know what I said to them.

My soldier blocked the door from the other side. I should go and open it for them to get in. Let's hope I can keep the connection for a long time. Five hundred people are many. I flipped the coin and immediately appeared in the abandoned pub.

"What happened?" the guys questioned.

Giving them a thumbs up, I told them it was all good, "However, we have to undo what we did at the entrance if we want them to come in."

"What did you do?" Ethan questioned.

"My soldier blocked the door. They won't be able to come in unless we do something about it," I told him, "Can you take us there with your coin?"

"Us?" he chuckled, "I thought you worked alone."

"Look at these arms. I'm not strong enough to get rid of the thing blocking the door," I admitted.

"At least you're honest," a blue-bearded man walked up to us. His arms were huge. Does he wash his back when bathing? How does he even fit into the stairway? "I can help," he said.

Ethan retrieved his coins from me and placed them in his bag. He then took out another one. The coins were many. Does he know what each one does?

"Are you coming?" Ethan offers me a coin.

"If I get close to those buildings," I gestured to the buildings on Ethan's laptop, "some idiots will try to mess with my mind. If that happens, I would lose control of the people."

"That is not good," he said.

Nodding I repeated, "Yeah, that is not good."

"Do you know who he is? The person that's messing with your mind" the blue bearded man asked.

"A man and a woman in a cage. It looked like your new boss stole their trident from them," I told them.

"She's alive? Mira's alive?!"
