Chapter 1 - A new hope away from chaos

Year: 410 AD

Province of Britannia

Londinium

After the Rewritten by Honorius, The wealthiest citizens of Roman Britain board ships at the port of Londinium to take them to Constantinople.

However,in the tide of chaos and misfortune that was the situation of the Western Roman Empire, the Western Roman nobleman, Paulus Theodosius Maximus, had created a new ship and that was the Romulus, this ship could carry more than 2,500 people in addition to carrying more weight and objects.

This project was created in 390, with the support of the last emperor who ruled when it was still united, Emperor Theodosius I, who was his uncle and nicknamed this project "The King of the Seas", and gave a good amount of his fortune to this naval innovation. But with the rise of Constantine the great and the turmoil in the Western Roman Empire, his project was left aside, due to the creation of the Theodosian Walls, so he himself had to finance his invention and put his pr one into light in your project.

The first prototype of Romulus was created in the province of Egypt in the year In 401, he attempted to test Romulus in the Red Sea to test how it could be useful in all seas, but his prototype failed due to the Red Sea not being the ideal sea to demonstrate this. ship because of its size which was incredibly long and it was almost impossible for the rowers to row in such a still sea, so the first Romulus ended with a result below than expected and he redesigned his designs learning from the mistakes of the first Romulus prototype.

The second prototype of Romulus was made in 406, still in the province of Egypt, but this time the city of Alexandria was chosen, this prototype was named Romulus Beta, this time,Paulus created the first ship to use a rudder by the Romans, so he decided to test whether the Romulus Beta could travel great distances, so Paulus summoned 500 sailors for a voyage from Alexandria to Constantinople without any commercial stop.

During the voyage, Paulus noted in his diary how the ship was reacting to the fierce Mediterranean Sea, he could see that the rowers were useless since the rudder was what was moving the ship with much easier than traditional rowers.

The voyage to Constantinople becomes a success and the Romulus Beta arrives intact in the port of Arsenal, with this success his family began to support his naval enterprise, with this Paulus gained great notoriety in the court of Constantinople, thus he managed to create the definitive prototype.

In the year 407, the definitive version of Romulus was created, this was the Romulus Alpha, to a total of seven sails, being five Latin and two square, measuring approximately 50 meters wide and 15 meters high, Its maximum capacity reached around 2,500 people and it could carry more than 450 kg, to test the effectiveness of his invention, Paulus ordered 2,500 sailors to board the ship and bring with them oxen, cows, sheep, chickens and goats to the ship, so he set sail from Constantinople to Rome, in order to show how innovative his invention was.

After two weeks, without stopping at any port, they arrive at Portus and the Emperor Honorius, his cousin was amazed by such an invention and later Honorius made a secret agreement with Paulus that he with his invention should discover new territories and if he succeeded he should lead the Western Romans to that territory, thus the Treaty of Neo-Rome was made in 407.

In the year 408, Paulus with about 10 ships Romulus, leaves Rome for the unknown with the financial support of his cousin, they cross the Western Mediterranean Sea and enter the Atlantic Ocean.

After a few weeks at sea, they see dry land and then Paulus orders the sailors to to see if they could find life in that place but they only found wild animals such as bulls, turtles and incredibly, several Dodos were found alive and flying, which for everyone there was impressive, an animal that should be extinct, so Paulus named the island "Dodo Island", being discovered in 407 and only a few decades later a naval port would be built and almost a century later a city would be founded that would be a supply route for the maritime forces, then Paulus orders not to hunt the Dodo, so the sailors hunt the island's bulls, it is logical that in this process some dozens of sailors ended up being killed by the bulls, After this incident, the sailors bury the bodies of the dead sailors and go to eat the bull's meat, in addition to taking various fruits to the ships and raising the flag of the Western Roman Empire on the island.

After more turbulence on the high seas and attempted rebellions, dry land is sighted once again, but this time it is not an island but rather a vast territory of virgin forest without ever having past through human interference.

This time, Paulus led the sailors into this new territory and to their surprise they found people and these were the natives, a people who looked in amazement at seeing warriors using swords and a foreign language, the first contact between Western Romans and natives was positive, oddly enough, something that would not be repeated with the French, English and Spanish in the distant end of the 15th century and the 16th century, Paulus ordered some sailors to stay in this land and find out more about the natives and create a naval post in this land, so 150 sailors stay in this land with the intention of marking presence in this place and avoid any attack by barbarians or enemy native tribes with which the Western Romans had formed an alliance.

Paulus called this territory New Rome, but for now it would only be a settlement between sailors and natives, until the city was founded in 421, being the first city in the New World and then in the year 455 the first province of the New World was formed.

The long journey back to Rome was this time supported by the joy of the sailors who discovered lands and in those lands there must be treasures beneath that earth, after crossing the Western Mediterranean Sea and arriving in Rome, they are welcomed by the Western Roman nobles and Emperor Honorius who was impressed as he really did not expect that there were lands beyond Europe.

The success of the expedition to new lands made the Western Roman Emperor Honorius realize that perhaps while the Western Roman Empire was in turmoil, a land untouched by barbarians It would be the perfect place to save as much of the population as possible and perhaps establish the Western Roman Empire somewhere other than Europe.

Londinium

Now

At the port of Londinium, Paulus had a letter written by the Western Roman Emperor Honorius, in which he told him to recruit engineers, warriors, priests and peasants for this new land that they discovered, as this would be the first trip of civilians from Europe to the New World, but this fact would only be discovered when the portuguese made contact with the romans on Dodo Island in the year 1419.

Paulus looked to the horizon, seeing that perhaps his cousin Emperor Honorius could do what Aurelian did when the Crisis of the Third Century occurred, perhaps becoming the second Restitutor Orbis and their discovery may be forgotten and the Romans may return to focusing on the Mediterranean Sea, but perhaps this is a way to save their people from the barbarians for now until everything returns to normal, in the Western Roman Empire.

Once everyone was on board the Romulus, Paulus ordered the sailors to hoist sails and thus the first ship with civilians to the New World in history was set sail and in the meantime, the city of Rome was sacked by Alaric I.
