Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Diving head first to the sidewalk, I instinctively shifted myself with a slight wave of my hand and unintentionally dove straight into a trash can. Great.

"Aghh…" I groaned as the stinge of rotten hotdogs and a fly infested donut. I kicked my legs for momentum and to free myself.

Suddenly, I felt like I was falling then…thud. I was knocked to the ground, still in the trash can. "Ow!" I whined and crawled out of the trash can and took in the fresh air…well, as fresh as it gets in the city.

I then glared at the orange haired woman, knowing that it was her who pushed the trash can. "What the heck was that for?!"

"You should be thanking me for helping you get out of there. Besides, I'm not strong enough to lift you up. I don't have telekinesis like you." she said with her arms crossed and an indifferent expression.

"Whatever…" I grumbled as I stood up to dust myself off. I then look around to all the trash that fell out of the can. "Now look what you did. Trash everywhere. I hope you're proud of yourself!" I said with a point of my finger.

"She gave a dismissive wave and turned around, unfazed. "Just pick it up using your ability." she stated casually. I rolled my eyes and turned to the trash on the ground. "...and you call yourself an SPO" I mumbled.

In an instant, my irises glowed a bright yellow, causing the trash to float up off the ground, and with a small, quick wave of my finger, the trash flew back into the trash can.

Sighing, I turned back to the woman. "You're annoying, Harper. You know that?" I informed bluntly with an annoyed expression as I crossed my arms lazily.

However, she wasn't listening to me, or looking at me for that matter. From what I could tell, her gaze was fixed on something ahead of her.

"Yo, what's up?" I asked as I walked up beside her. Without averting her gaze, she spoke. "Look." was all she said.

Looking ahead, my gaze landed on a woman and a man who were handing out flyers. "Salvation is here! The Radiant Sun is hosting a meeting at the location on the flyers. Be there to achieve greatness!" they chanted to passersby on the street with disturbingly happy smiles.

I narrowed my eyes at this, remembering that I once had an encounter with this group…well, more of a cult.

"Shouldn't we stop them?" I asked Harper as she too, continued observing them. But once again, she didn't answer and instead, began walking up to them. My eyes followed her, thinking that she was going to arrest them or something.

She took off her SPO armband that every SPO officer is required to wear, especially when out on duty. She stuffed it in the pocket of her pants, eyeing the two.

She then smiled brightly when the pair turned to her, which was very unexpected.

"Hi. May I have a flyer? This 'Radiant Sun' sounds amazing." she said with admiration. Although, to anyone who knew her, knows that it was clearly fake.

The pair smiled back, seeming genuinely happy. "Of course, ma'am!" said the man, handing her a flyer.

"Thank you." said Harper as she scanned the flyer with her eyes. "Say, this group sounds interesting. Is there anything you can tell me about it? Like, who runs this group in the first place?"

Wow, blunt with it…I thought as I observed their interaction. Then, out of the corner of my eye, a figure dressed in a red hoodie and black sweatpants caught my eye.

He was walking on the other side of the street, on the opposite sidewalk. His eyes were covered with a pair of black shades and he had a bit of white hair poking out of his hood.

My eyes followed his movements as he passed by. I didn't understand why he grabbed my attention but he just did. He seemed very familiar, but why?
