Chapter 12 - The Dark Awakens

Izzy stood in the dimly lit warehouse, her heartbeat thundering in her chest. The words Danny had just confessed echoed through her mind, but they didn't make sense. He wasn't human. He was a demon.

Her eyes flickered to him as he turned away, his shoulders tense, his hands clenched at his sides.

"I... I don't understand," she murmured, her voice shaking. "You're a demon, Danny. How... why didn't you tell me?"

He slowly faced her, his eyes flickering with a red glow—an unsettling, burning hue that sent a chill crawling down her spine. For a moment, she thought she saw something darker in his eyes, like the very soul of a predator. But then the glow faded, and his eyes returned to their usual shade of blue.

"I never wanted you to know," he said softly, his voice laced with guilt. "It's not something I'm proud of. I've been fighting it, Izzy. But…"

He hesitated, as though the weight of what he was about to say was too heavy to bear.

"But what, Danny?"

"I lost my powers, Izzy. When I tried to save you, when that… thing happened, everything changed. The power I had—everything I was—somehow it transferred to you. And now, I'm… weak. I need you to help me get it back."

Izzy blinked in confusion. "What do you mean, it transferred to me? How can that be?"

He ran a hand through his hair, frustration seeping into his expression. "I don't fully understand it either, but I felt it the moment you touched me. The moment I tried to save you from that… attack, the power inside me slipped away. It's in you now, Izzy. And I don't know how to get it back. But I need it."

She stepped back, her heart racing. Her mind struggled to keep up with the revelation. "I… I don't want this power. I didn't ask for it. I didn't—"

"I know," he interrupted quickly, his voice softening. "But there's no choice now. The power inside you is the only thing that can bring me back, and once the full moon comes, the window will close. I have to regain my strength before it's too late. If I don't—if I can't get it back—I'll lose myself completely. And all this darkness... it'll consume me."

The weight of his words hit Izzy like a tidal wave. Her thoughts swirled, panic creeping in at the idea of having something so dangerous inside her. She had always felt a connection to him, but this was something far beyond what she could ever have imagined.

"Then why didn't you just tell me sooner?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Danny's expression darkened, his eyes flickering again with a brief flash of red before they returned to normal. "I didn't want to drag you into this. I thought I could find another way. But now... I can't do it alone, Izzy. You're the key. I need your help."

She looked at him, her mind racing. The idea of having such a powerful force inside her, of playing such a vital role in saving him, terrified her. But deep down, she knew she couldn't just turn her back on him—not after everything they'd been through.

"How do I help you?" she whispered, barely able to ask the question.

Danny stepped closer, his gaze intense. "The power will only transfer back to me during the full moon. There's a ritual, but it's dangerous. If we don't complete it, if we don't do this right, the consequences could be deadly—not just for me, but for everyone."

Izzy swallowed hard, her mind still reeling from everything she had learned. But she also understood one thing: Danny was more than just a demon now. He was someone who had saved her life, who had cared for her despite the darkness inside him.

"I'll help you," she said softly, though she wasn't entirely sure what she was agreeing to. "But we'll do this together. No more secrets, no more lies."

Danny's eyes softened for a moment, gratitude flickering in them before the shadows returned. "I don't deserve your help, Izzy. But... I'm glad you're here."

As he stepped back, Izzy could feel the weight of the moment. The air around them was charged with an electric tension, as though they were standing on the edge of something they couldn't control.

She couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning. The beginning of something darker, something they might not be able to escape. But at the same time, there was a pull—a connection to him—that made it impossible to walk away.

"Alright," she said, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her. "Let's do this. We'll find a way to get your powers back. But I won't let you destroy yourself in the process."

Danny nodded, though a trace of uncertainty remained in his eyes. "I don't know what'll happen, Izzy. I just need you to trust me."

The door to the warehouse creaked open, and the storm outside raged on. Izzy's heart raced as she realized that the coming full moon would be a pivotal moment. A moment that could either save Danny or push him further into darkness.

She didn't know how, but she knew one thing for certain: she was all in now.
