Chapter 20 - Daydreamer

Noctis lowered his head, ready for his imminent death. Looking around, people dead, buildings destroyed, all of Noctis' life is going to be destroyed, and he is not able to do anything about it. The town is in silence; no one decides to make a move; everyone already knows that this is their end.

Noctis manages to enter his dream. In his third point of view, he sees the once lovely yet dull town as just a crater, the ground still burning by the fireball. Not a single living thing in a one-hundred-meter radius from the attack.

Noctis could only cry; all of his life and his grandma's life had disappeared in an instant. The entire place is covered in dust from the attack. Noctis tried to go more into the future to see if there would be people living here, but his current abilities don't allow him to reach that much into the future.

Noctis appears in his dream. Another Noctis takes the mind of Ink to prevent Noctis from passing out from hearing the true voice of a god.

"You need more power, right? It's simple. You can either lose yourself to get more power, but after you die. Or you can go into the worst realities of people that once lived here." Ink starts speaking to Noctis with Noctis' voice.

"What are the differences? And how sure are you that I will defeat them? Noctis, with tears in his eyes, asks for more context about his proposal.

"If you decide on the first option, I can guarantee you that you will have a ninety-nine percent chance of defeating the demons. However, the second choice is you can beat demons, but it will mostly depend on how you use your abilities."

"How does the second choice depend on me? Also, why a ninety-nine and not a one hundred?" Noctis asks Ink

"Let's just say that we don't know how your body will resist the power and if you have the time to beat them, but that is for the first choice. The second one depends on you because if you manage to survive the realities, then you will be granted 'daydreamer,' where now you can dream while being awake."

"I don't care about the first choice, but how is being a daydreamer going to help me beat those demons? They are far stronger than me!" Noctis starts screaming at Ink.

"Hey, don't scream at yourself; you sound like a lunatic. Also, that is the reason why I told you that daydreamers mostly depend on you. If your imagination is vivid and your creativity is very high, you can come up with ideas that can defeat them. Remember your first encounter."

"What does that mean, Ink? I tried to make them into their human form, yet I couldn't. Could a daydreamer help me achieve that? Or with daydreamer can I make myself extremely overpowered? Or can a daydreamer make me imagine someone weaker than me?" Noctis starts questioning Ink about all of this.

"I don't know. Well, I do, but you need to figure it out. I will give you three seconds to decide as the clock is ticking in the real world. Currently, our conversation took only one second in your realm. After saying this, Ink starts to fade away.

"Fuck it, I choose option two!!" Just when Ink is about to disappear, Noctis decides his answer.

Noctis is transported into a third point of view, seeing the life of a young girl. The young girl is Grandma. Noctis can not produce any sound; he can only observe. Noctis could see how horrible the reality of Grandma was.

Her household was very abusive. Her alcoholic father beat her and her mother every day. They hid the knives, guns, and everything just to have a chance to see another day. Noctis can only resist breaking down to gain the abilities.

Noctis is transported to the scene of Grandma and her mom being beaten so hard that her mother could only protect Grandma as she was being hit with a shovel. Grandma cried in her mom's arms, only seeing the blood spilling into her face.

The last swing was so powerful that it knocked out her mother. After being left alone with the monster, he also started beating her. After his fit of rage, he left them to die. Grandma could only see how the life of her mother was quickly fading away in front of her eyes.

Grandma could only see the lips of her mother move as she let her last breath. Grandma cried for hours, moving her mother's lifeless body to wake her up. Begging her to wake up, to not leave her alone in this cruel and dull world.

Noctis could only see his entire mind going insane, his mind holding the thread of string. Nothing could prepare him for this nightmare. The worst thing for him is that this is what Grandma lived through. Her always happy personality had such a tragic past. Noctis could only resist breaking down with the thoughts about how much Grandma valued this place.

The actions of Grandma remind him of his own experiences, feeling such a personal connection between the both of them. Noctis started to hear some voices in the back of his head. A voice so quiet, yet it is still prevalent enough for Noctis to notice. Noctis tries his best to ignore it by using his entire mental power to process the thing he is seeing.

Noctis is transported into another scenario where an adult Grandma, her long, wavy brunette hair combined with her beautiful looks, made Noctis very happy to see how Grandma is living. The more and more he looks at her, the more the sorrows of her past start to seep through her body.

Noctis can only appreciate how much his grandma changed her life and how much she changed his life.

"Wow, you managed to survive. I am very surprised, but this is only the beginning if you want more power." Ink now disappears.

"Welcome, Daydreamer." Ink uses his real voice.

Noctis is knocked out from hearing his voice again. The next second, Noctis awoke ten seconds after entering his dream. The demons were still standing there, ready to destroy the place. A newly motivated and powered-up Noctis is determined to stop this or die trying to save the place he and his grandma care for so much.
