Chapter 23 - K.

K. awakes to see the large blue star with only three remaining points emitting the blue glow. K. starts floating around the room. I appreciate how beautiful it looks. At the corner of his eyes, he sees a star glowing a dark golden color. Confused K. starts moving towards it.

Arriving at the star, K. feels a huge urge to touch it. He touches it, without him even second-guessing himself. K. is transported into the body of a young man.

"Asher, hurry up; let's get ready to get water at the well before anyone takes our share." A soft voice called.

Huh, is it me? Where am I and why am I here? K. starts thinking without noticing his body moving towards the voice.

"There you are, Asher; now let's go!" A small girl grabs K. and runs with very little resistance from K..

"Shit!!" K. screams, feeling a surge of thoughts suddenly enter his mind.

So My name is Asher, and that girl is my little sister Dalia. I am from the Okafor family. K. decided to take the name Asher.

"Asher, are you OK?" Dalia starts to worry due to the sudden scream.

"Don't worry, I am fine. I just stepped on a rock," Asher tried his best to lie without being caught.

"You little crybaby, now let's go." Dalia and Asher continue running with their buckets.

Asher starts to see around his environment, seeing it covered in nature, the huts being very colorful. The ground is mostly dirt. After running past fifty huts, Asher sees a large well with many people carrying buckets of water, many filling their buckets.

While seeing the people, someone passed through him, spilling a drop of water, bringing him back to reality. Asher start running past the well carrying two buckets. His sister ran close behind with only one bucket.

"Hello Asher, surprising to see you here; it's normally your sister and your younger brother." A woman starts speaking to Asher.

"Hello, Ms. Yara. I was dragged out by my sisters due to my parents taking my little brother to the clinic. How are you?" Asher asks while collecting water.

"I am fine. But what is wrong with your little brother?" Ms. Yara finishes filling her blue bucket.

"He has a small fever, but don't worry; he will be fine." Asher gives a bright smile and starts to fill his second bucket.

"That's very good. Well, I finished filling my buckets, so I am going back. Have a great rest of your day." Ms. Yara pats Asher's head and starts walking back.

"You too!" Asher waves at Ms. Yara.

Asher and his sister start to go back home with their four buckets covered with water. The journey is hard for both of them. The walk takes them about ten minutes.

"Mom, we're home!" Dalia enters the house, seeing that their parents are at the table with a gloomy tone.

"Mom? Dad? What is going on? Dalia questions her parents while both she and Asher put their buckets down.

"We can't pay for his medicine," Dad replies with a serious tone.

"What do you mean we can't pay for his medicine? Is he going to die?" Dalia responds by shaking.

"Don't say that! He is going to be fine! We are going to start selling our things to get the funds, Dad screams at Daliah.

Asher and his mom are both quiet without saying anything. The house is in a standstill. Asher, still not having his entire memories back, doesn't know what to think about the situation. Asher decides to walk to the restroom.

In the restroom, Asher sees himself in the reflection of the water bucket, seeing a Black kid a tone lighter than the rest. His hair is short, and his eyelashes have a beautiful curl.

Splash

Asher splashes water on his face to see if he can remember more about his situation. After arriving at nothing, Asher decides to leave the restroom to see Dalia and his mother hugging while crying.

Asher gets close to them, hugging them to try and help them with their emotions. Asher feels a strong feeling in his heart. Feeling like a fire is being created in himself. A wants to help those around him.

Asher feels that they have stopped crying; he stands up and goes to his little brother's bed. After seeing him looking almost exactly like him, Asher felt that fire increase.

"Don't worry, little brother; I promise that I will help you." Asher kisses his sleeping little brother's head.

Asher leaves the hut, sees the bright burning sun, takes a deep breath, feeling the burn increase; he decides that his life is going to have a new direction.
