Chapter 3 - no trick

The masked figure's staff collided with Kaida's glowing shield, sending shockwaves through the narrow staircase. Each clash illuminated their surroundings, revealing walls inscribed with ancient runes that pulsed faintly with each strike.

"Your resolve is strong," the figure said, their voice carrying a hint of approval. "But strength alone won't save you here."

Before Kaida could respond, the masked figure thrust their staff into the ground. A ripple of energy spread outward, causing the stairs to shift and crumble beneath them. Kaida lost her footing and fell, clutching the book tightly to her chest.

As she tumbled, the book flared with blinding light. In an instant, she was no longer falling. She found herself standing in a vast, empty chamber bathed in a pale, ghostly glow.

The masked figure stood a few feet away, their stance relaxed. "Welcome to the Tower's heart," they said, gesturing to the room. "Here, truth and lies blur. The Tower tests all who enter."

Kaida glanced around, her heart pounding. The walls of the chamber seemed to ripple like water, and faint whispers filled the air.

"What is this place?" she demanded, gripping the book.

"The crossroads of fate," the figure replied. They reached up and removed their mask, revealing a face shockingly familiar. It was her own face, but older, scarred, and weary.

Kaida took a step back, her mind reeling. "What kind of trick is this?"

"No trick," the older Kaida said. "You have more to lose than you know. The Tower isn't just a prison; it's a gate. And the choice you make here will shape not only your future but the fate of everyone."

Before Kaida could process the revelation, the chamber began to shake violently. Cracks formed in the walls, and the whispers turned into a deafening roar.
