Chapter 2 - chapter 2

As she stood there, lost in her thoughts, suddenly, someone's hands covered her eyes from behind. A familiar voice playfully chimed, "Found you, guess who?"

Her heart raced, a mix of surprise and fear flooding her senses. Memories of her nightmare crept back, and she instinctively flinched. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, and reminded herself that it was just a friend trying to lighten the mood.

"Come on, it's me!" the voice said, laughter lacing their tone. She recognized it now—Mia, her childhood friend. They had been inseparable until family problems forced her to move out of the city three long years ago. The suddenness of their reunion made her heart leap, but the remnants of fear lingered, making her hesitant to turn around.

"Can you not do that? You scared me," she replied, forcing a laugh but still feeling the shadows of her nightmare hovering at the edges of her mind.

Mia stepped in front of her, a concerned look on her face. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to freak you out. You okay?"

"I'm fine, just… it's been a lot," she admitted, her voice wavering slightly. "I didn't expect to see you here after everything."

Mia's eyes sparkled with excitement. "I know! I can't believe we're finally back together after all this time. We have so much to catch up on!"

They embraced tightly, the warmth of their friendship enveloping them as if no time had passed. It felt surreal, and for a moment, the weight of her worries lifted. As they pulled away, Leena noticed how much Mia had changed. Her hair was longer, her style more sophisticated, and there was a confidence in her demeanor that hadn't been there before.

"Let's go for a walk," Mia suggested, her enthusiasm infectious. They strolled through the park, laughter filling the air as they reminisced about their old good days, sharing stories that brought back fond memories. The sun cast a warm glow around them, illuminating the path as they walked side by side.

"Remember that time we tried to sneak into that concert?" Mia laughed, her eyes shining with mischief. "We thought we were so clever, but we ended up getting caught by my dad!"

Leena chuckled, shaking her head. "How could I forget? He was so mad, but deep down, I think he was just worried. He always wanted to protect us."

"Yeah, and your mom was just relieved we didn't get hurt," Mia added, her voice tinged with nostalgia. "Those were the days. I miss that carefree feeling."

Leena nodded, feeling a pang of longing for those simpler times. "Me too. Life was so much easier back then. Now, it feels like everything is so complicated."

As they continued their walk, Mia shared her experiences since moving away. "It was tough at first. I missed you so much, and it felt like I was starting over. But I made some great friends, and I'm really excited about college. I chose this one because I wanted to be with you. Plus, I had some connections with your mom that helped me get in."

Leena's heart swelled with gratitude. "Really? I didn't know that! I'm so glad you're here with me. It feels like old times again."

Mia smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling. "I'm just happy we're together again. It's like we picked up right where we left off."

As they walked, they passed by a group of students playing frisbee, their laughter echoing through the park. Leena couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging wash over her. It was nice to have Mia back in her life, especially as they both navigated the challenges of college together.

As they continued their stroll through the school's garden, they found a quiet bench nestled under a sprawling oak tree. They sat down, the shade offering a cool respite from the warmth of the sun. Leena glanced around, taking in the beauty of the park—the vibrant flowers, the chirping birds, and the laughter of students nearby.

"It feels surreal to finally be here," Leena said, her eyes wide with excitements.

Mia nodded, her heart racing with a mix of nerves and anticipation. "I know! It's like a whole new adventure. I wonder what our classes will be like."

Leena smiled, her mind racing with possibilities. "And the clubs! We should definitely join the art club together. Imagine all the projects we could work on!"

Mia grinned, feeling a sense of camaraderie. "Absolutely! And we can meet new friends too. This place feels so welcoming."

As they sat there, surrounded by the vibrant energy of their new school, they felt a sense of hope and excitement for the journey ahead, ready to embrace whatever high school had in store for them.
