"Well, well, Celeste," Veyron drawled as he stepped forward, his arms spread theatrically. "I missed you for months you know?."
Celeste's emerald eyes narrowed, her lips twisting into a sarcastic smile. "Missed me? That's funny. I can't say the same."
Veyron clicked his tongue, pretending to be hurt. "Ouch. That hurts. But I suppose I will forgive you—after all, who else would dare challenge me to a duel and lose so spectacularly? You are a star, Celeste, and stars belong in my party."
"No," her sharp tone cut through the room. The lively chatter ceased as heads turned, all eyes focusing on the escalating tension.
Ronan did not flinch. He took Naria's card, handed her Aurelia's, and then stood up and left. "Let's go," he said abruptly.
Aurelia nodded, rising from the couch and leaving the room, but Celeste paused as Veyron shot his hand out to catch her wrist.
