# Chapter Five: Strange findings
The air was thick with tension as Detective Davis and his partner, Detective Mason, arrived at the scene.
They exchanged glances, knowing that what lay ahead would be anything but ordinary.
As they entered Jane's apartment, the sight that greeted them was chilling.
Lily was huddled in the corner of the kitchen, her body shaking violently as tears streamed down her face.
The room was a chaotic mess—cabinets ajar, flour dusting the floor like a ghostly blanket, and amidst it all lay Jane's lifeless body sprawled on the floor, a bloody knife glistening ominously beside her.
Davis and Mason stood frozen for a moment, processing the horror before them.
They had never seen such a scene outside of a crime drama. The reality was far too raw.
"Who... who are you?" Lily stammered between sobs, her voice cracking as she looked up at the detectives with wide, terrified eyes.
"Ma'am, we need to ask you some questions," Davis replied cautiously, his instincts kicking in. He could sense that Lily was in shock but also that there was more to this story than met the eye.
"I didn't do it! I swear!" she cried out desperately, her words tumbling over one another.
"I found her like this! Please, you have to believe me!"
Before she could continue, Davis raised his walkie-talkie close to his lips to call for backup, his voice steady but urgent.
"We need assistance here! Send two nurses and secure this area."
Moments later, two nurses rushed in with a stretcher and a large evidence bag. They quickly assessed the situation: Jane's body lay still on the floor, and there was no denying the gravity of what had transpired.
With careful precision, they placed Jane's body inside the bag before wheeling it away.
Meanwhile, five officers with guns drawn entered the apartment, their expressions serious as they focused on Lily.
She recoiled at their presence, trying to free herself from their grasp as she continued to plead her case.
"Let me go! I'm innocent! I just found her!" Lily cried out, her voice breaking as she struggled against them.
Davis watched as chaos unfolded around him—Lily's panic contrasted sharply with the grim efficiency of his team.
The detectives put up a "Do Not Cross" tape everywhere they could, sealing off Jane's apartment from prying eyes and curious neighbors.
Outside the building, a crowd began to gather.
Whispers filled the air—shock mingled with speculation.
Some stared at Jane's covered body in disbelief; others looked at Lily with disgust or pity.
The scene felt surreal; emotions ran high among those witnessing the aftermath of tragedy unfold.
As sirens wailed in the distance and lights flashed red and blue against the darkening sky, Davis knew this was just the beginning of an investigation that would uncover dark secrets buried beneath layers of friendship and betrayal.
