Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Temporary release

**Chapter Ten**

This chapter summarizes how the week has progressed with new developments.

The detectives have been visiting Jane's apartment for clues and evidence.

Lily remains in her private cell, waiting for her fate.

While Natasha and Claire are trying to find out who killed Jane by hiring private investigators.

Richard and Claire continue to argue over Jane's death and private matters.

At a certain time, an officer opens the cell door and calls for Lily to come out for the detectives. She enters the room and sits down, staring at Detective Davis and Mason.

"We have been investigating this case and have questioned many people: Jane's parents, you, Mark—your fiancé—Jane's friend Natasha, her neighbors, and her father.

Based on our findings, we have decided to file the matter in court.

The court session starts next week Monday. As today is just Wednesday, We will grant you a temporary release since we see no point in holding you back for now. So until the court decides, you are temporarily free."

Lily couldn't hold back her tears as they began to fall.

"Thank you," she managed to say amidst sobs. "Your fiancé is already here to pick you up."

As they finished their conversation, they handed Lily a paper to sign. Without wasting time, she signed it and immediately walked out of the room.

"My mind tells me she isn't responsible for Jane's death," Detective Davis said. "But we won't know for sure until we find out and until the court decides."

Lily was escorted to the reception area, where she waited for some time before spotting Mark. Without hesitation, she ran up to him and hugged him tightly.

"I've missed you so much," she cried, not caring about her surroundings or the people staring at her.

"Same here, baby," he replied. The hug lasted about five minutes until they finally pulled away.

Mark noticed how much Lily had changed during her week in the cell; she had lost weight.

Her once silky and neat black hair had become chapped and rough, her beautiful bright brown eyes looked weary and dull, and her heart-shaped luscious lips were also chapped.

Her once-glowy olive skin had lost its shine; however, she still looked beautiful in his eyes.

"Come on, let's go get you fed," he said as they left the station for a diner near the city.

As Lily placed her order of spaghetti Bolognese and fried chicken, Mark couldn't help but feel anger rise within him.

It pained him to see how Lily had suffered all because of a psycho who had been murdered.

He never expected Jane's murder but was upset upon hearing it because the detectives found Lily in Jane's apartment.

He understood why they took her in; Lily was too kind-hearted.

She had told him that Jane called her wanting to talk.

Although he was skeptical about it, he did nothing to stop her from going because she loved Jane more than anything in the world.

As he saw her in the visiting room that night, he grew furious at the thought of his Lily being locked up.

What bad luck Jane had brought upon them all, he thought.

He then drifted off to memories of when he met Jane.

She was loud and adventurous but also sassy; he liked her because of her beauty.

However, something felt different when he met Lily—as if a part of him had been restored.

They started talking often, sometimes getting intimate when Jane wasn't around.

Lily didn't like what was happening but couldn't deny her feelings for Mark, so they became inseparable.

He wasn't surprised when Jane found out about their secret relationship because of her loudmouth friend Natasha.

Ultimately, Mark had to break up with Jane because he wanted to be with Lily.

His thoughts were interrupted when Lily stared at him with a small smile on her face.

"What are you thinking about?" she asked playfully, showing off her dimples.

"Nothing—just admiring a goddess sitting right in front of me."

"Oh please! Even when I look like a freak, you still find me pretty?"

"Not just pretty—beautiful! Every inch of you is worth more than pure gold," he said while kissing her hand.

She blushed but turned serious as she remembered something important.

"What's wrong, sugar bun?"

"Nothing... I just remember that my freedom isn't permanent, which means I'm not allowed in certain places... And there's also the court opening..."

"I'm just scared," she choked out as tears welled up in her eyes.

He held her hands tightly; with his strikingly handsome grey eyes locked onto hers, he whispered slowly, "We're in this together—you and me. Don't worry; I trust you and know what you're capable of doing. You didn't kill Jane because you have a f*cking pure heart."

Lily broke down in tears at Mark's words. What would she do without him? He had been there for her through thick and thin; it had always just been her since her parents died when she was young—but now she had her everything sitting right in front of her: Mark.

She wiped away her tears and braced herself for the upcoming battle, knowing she wasn't alone.

The waitress arrived with her order, and as she slowly ate her meal savoring the taste of the chicken in her mouth, she felt grateful that her taste buds found something delightful again.

Sure! Here's a revised version of your cliffhanger for chapter ten, with grammatical corrections and some slight enhancements for clarity:

---

In the outskirts of Hayesville, a silhouette paced back and forth in the dimly lit room.

A laughter echoed loudly. **He thinks he can get away after hurting me... but he doesn't know what's to come. I gave him my heart, but what did he do? He squashed it.**

Stupid Jane—she just made things easier for me. Hahaha! The person laughed again, making the thick walls echo loudly.

**As for Lily, the idiot—I'll end her.

Although she killed Jane, her miserable days are about to begin.** Hahaha! The laughter echoed once more.
