Sheng Mian sat down in the rest area by the window and quickly replied to the lawyer's message.
[Can I meet him first?]
She was downstairs at the Fu Corporation. If Fu Yancheng was willing, they could meet immediately.
The lawyer replied that he would negotiate, and then there was no further response.
On the top floor of Fu Corporation, the man behind the black marble desk briefly glanced at the document in front of him.
Qi Shen entered and said, "Mr. Fu, Miss Sheng wants to meet with you."
Fu Yancheng lifted his gaze momentarily, his tone indifferent. He wasn't keen on discussing it.
"No meeting."
He believed this was just another ploy to prevent the divorce. Did she think meeting would change anything? He found her too self-assured.
A flash of irritation crossed his brow as he spoke coldly, "Have the lawyer deliver the divorce agreement to the Sheng family. Let her sign it there."
Qi Shen nodded, not elaborating further on the situation with the president's wife. He double-checked the schedule, "President Wan Wenhe from Hengda Bank is meeting you this afternoon at the golf course. We can head out now."
Fu Yancheng rose, adjusting his tie with his long, slender fingers. "Mm."
As time passed, more people arrived in the lobby. Some were men, some women, all dressed formally. Sheng Mian quietly sat to the side, like a perfect painting.
It wasn't until she received a call from the Sheng family that she broke her silence.
"Sleepy, what's going on? Why does Yancheng suddenly want a divorce?"
"What's wrong with your relationship? You need to come back, and we'll discuss this properly."
Sheng Mian hesitated before answering. "Dad, you know he went abroad for three years because of our marriage. Now that he's back, what else could it be for?"
Sheng Zhong was frantic. "Sleepy, this marriage can't end. The Sheng family is going through a tough time, and we're facing the second round of financing. If you divorce now, our stocks will definitely be affected, and the investors will pull out."
In the background, Su Lan's voice could be heard.
"I told you, she's not on your side and can't be trusted. If she'd put in even a little effort, would Fu Yancheng have sent a lawyer with the divorce agreement? Now, we're all going to be a laughingstock!"
Sheng Zhong fell silent for a moment before speaking in a lower voice. "I'm doing this for your own good. A second marriage is hard to manage. We should go find your grandfather. He's always been kind to you..."
Sheng Mian felt a lump in her chest, wanting to ask, was it really for her, or for the company? Or was it for Su Lan's family?
But she couldn't ask that.
She thought about how, after her mother passed away, Sheng Zhong would bring her to meetings, fearing something would happen to her. She briefly assured him that Grandpa Sheng was still abroad in a rehabilitation facility before hanging up.
Fu Yancheng had already instructed the lawyer to take the divorce agreement to the Sheng family, which meant the lawyer had failed in negotiating with him. He didn't want to meet her.
He clearly despised her as his wife.
Since he had made his stance clear, there was no need for her to keep waiting here and causing more trouble.
Sheng Mian felt disheartened. When she got into the car, she accidentally bumped her knee and then noticed a new message from Liang Hanqing.
[Did Wan Yuan'an, the son of Hengda Bank's president, contact you before?]
Sheng Mian recalled the name. She had indeed heard of him but had been busy with another client's material selection at the time and had forgotten all about it.
Liang Hanqing mentioned that Wan Yuan'an had made an appointment with the studio and was currently at the golf course, specifying his interest in her designs.
Sheng Mian asked for the address and drove over.
The golf course was located on the outskirts of the city, a prestigious area said to occupy several thousand acres.
When she arrived, an assistant came out to greet her.
"Penny, hello."
The assistant smiled politely and led her in.
As they walked, Sheng Mian realized they were heading toward the changing room.
"The course's greens and sand areas need to be maintained, so only players and caddies are allowed on them. I've prepared the golf clubs. Do you know how to play?" the assistant asked.
"A little, but I'm not great at it," Sheng Mian answered.
"That's fine. Please change into this outfit. Young Master is waiting for you on the course."
The assistant handed her a white sports skirt with a matching headband.
Sheng Mian tied her long hair into a ponytail, grabbed a golf club cover, and went out.
When she reached the lower floor, she briefly glanced at the course outside. As she turned her gaze, she saw a tall man with an imposing aura walking toward the entrance, surrounded by a group of people.
Her steps faltered as if she'd been struck.
Fu Yancheng was here.
She stood in the most visible spot, making it hard not to be noticed.
Her bright eyes and high ponytail gave her a youthful and lively appearance.
Her legs, long and straight, were highlighted by the red mark on her knee, which was especially noticeable.
Fu Yancheng looked at her once before turning his gaze away.
