Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The car door opened.

Bai Qiu was about to step forward, expecting Fu Yancheng to step out. However, the person who got out of the car wasn't Fu Yancheng; it was his assistant, Qi Shen.

"Madam, President Fu had a last-minute engagement and won't be home for dinner tonight. He asked me to bring this for you," Qi Shen said, handing over a gift.

Bai Qiu had specifically called Fu Yancheng to come home for a meal, without mentioning that Sheng Mian would be there. If she had mentioned that, knowing his attitude from three years ago when he had abandoned his wife and left the country, Fu Yancheng would have likely rejected the invitation outright.

Bai Qiu waved for someone to take the flowers from Qi Shen and sighed, a hint of disappointment crossing her face. "I know he's busy. It's fine. Just tell him to take care of himself."

Qi Shen nodded and got back into the car.

As Bai Qiu returned to the living room, she glanced at Sheng Mian, who had been silently observing. A wave of irritation washed over her, but she decided to ignore it. It was better not to let her presence bother her. With a casual gesture, she dismissed Sheng Mian. "You can go now. I'll call you when he's free."

"Alright," Sheng Mian responded, nodding. She had no intention of staying and making things awkward.

She didn't get a good look at Qi Shen's face, only catching a glimpse of the back of his figure. But it was obvious he wasn't Fu Yancheng.

Honestly, it didn't matter. They weren't going to see each other today anyway. The divorce papers had already been prepared, and there was nothing left to discuss.

Once she got back into the car, waiting for the light to change, she glanced at her workgroup chat. The group was buzzing with activity now that work hours had ended.

"I heard Fu Yancheng is planning to get married soon? He just bought up a large portion of the Yujingyuan properties, must be planning to start renovations soon."

"Our boss is actually Fu Yancheng's high school classmate. Do you think this means we'll get a chance to secure the design contract?"

"If we can design a wedding house for Fu Yancheng, our reputation and earnings would skyrocket. He's already at the top in terms of wealth, and as a top international investor with the Fu family's background, just getting to talk to him for a few minutes would be an honor…"

Aside from a few insiders, almost no one knew that Fu Yancheng had already gotten married. Not even the media had caught wind of it.

Sheng Mian wasn't particularly interested in this topic. Just as she was about to accelerate, her phone buzzed with a message from her boss, Liang Hanqing.

[Come to Yuece. The client who was interested in your villa designs is here and wants to meet you personally.]

Sheng Mian had gotten into interior design by accident. She had originally studied painting, but in her freshman year, she ended up designing a villa for a classmate. The villa was later bought by a wealthy businessman for ten times its original price, which made her famous overnight.

Afterward, Liang Hanqing had offered her a position as a part-time interior designer in his studio.

Why part-time? That's a longer story.

When Sheng Mian saw the message, she immediately turned the steering wheel and made her way to Yuece.

Yuece was one of the most popular entertainment venues for the children of the rich in the capital, frequented by the city's elite. Everyone who entered was either wealthy or famous.

Upon reaching Yuece's entrance, she received another message from Liang Hanqing.

[I can't come to pick you up. Mr. Lin's friend is going to bring you in. Please wait at the entrance.]

Yuece had a membership system, and Sheng Mian didn't have a membership there, so she had no choice but to wait outside until someone came to escort her inside.

Meanwhile, Fu Yancheng was on the phone with Lin Jing.

"Cousin, I have a friend outside who I'd like to introduce you to. When you arrive, can you bring her in? It'll be a good opportunity for you two to get to know each other," Lin Jing said casually, glancing at the design plans in his hands. "This gift I'm sending you is sure to be to your liking."

Fu Yancheng didn't have time to respond before the music in the background grew louder, drowning out the rest of Lin Jing's words.

Lin Jing was the most notorious playboy in the capital. He seemed to think that Fu Yancheng, who lacked nothing, would appreciate his "gift."

Fu Yancheng, however, didn't need to think hard to figure out what this "gift" could be.

As Fu Yancheng stepped out of the car, he immediately saw a woman standing at the center of attention, and his brow furrowed. Was it her?

As he got closer, he confirmed that he hadn't misjudged. It was indeed her.

It was the same woman he had seen earlier this morning in his bed.

Sheng Mian, who had been about to call Liang Hanqing, looked up and spotted Fu Yancheng walking toward her.

His figure was so tall and his presence so commanding that even in a place like Yuece, filled with the wealthy, he stood out like a figure carved from stone.

He was dressed in a bespoke black suit, his expression distant and cold, moving with the quiet grace of a mountain in the twilight—calm, composed, and reserved.

Fu Yancheng had been wondering why the woman had left so quickly this morning, but now it seemed clear that Lin Jing had likely already paid her off.

"Are you the person Lin Jing wanted to introduce me to?" Fu Yancheng's voice was as icy as ever.

Sheng Mian, taken aback that he would speak to her first, realized that Lin Jing, the "Mr. Lin" in Liang Hanqing's message, must be the same person.

So, Lin Jing was introducing her to Fu Yancheng?

Had the rumor about designing a wedding house been true?

Sheng Mian couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it. She was still married to Fu Yancheng, yet she was now being invited to design a wedding house for his future wife. The situation seemed almost surreal.

But as a professional, she had never turned down business, and she wouldn't start now.

"I suppose so, Mr. Fu. Hello."
