Before looking for the lacrima crystals, Alex's team tries to investigate Nirvana as much as they can. Alex wants to make this job look like a genuine job while also trying to get some important information.
Roubaul told him that Nirvana has a mechanism that makes it able to absorb magic power directly from the land through its legs. Nirvana needs to use a lot of power to operate because of its gigantic size, so it needs to constantly absorb magic power to fuel it up.
Unfortunately, Roubaul already forgot how the absorption system works. But he remembers that there should be notes about it and other things including about the history of the Nirvits kept in Nirvana because this place is basically a city.
The Nirvits built a city for them to live on Nirvana, so their knowledge should be stored here too. It wasn't explored in the story because Oracion Seis just focused on controlling Nirvana while the alliance just focused on stopping them.
Now, there's no enemy to stop, so Alex's team can explore Nirvana as long as they want. But exploring a big place like this will take time. So it's a good thing that they carry a lot of supplies because they can't find food here.
Obviously, they can't find many notes and records because most of them have been destroyed by time. The only ones left are those carved on stones or metals. But even many of those are broken, so they just take anything they can.
Fortunately, Cana can also store objects in her Magic Card, not just living beings. So they just store every record they find in her Magic Cards. They can think about the broken ones later, their priority now is just collecting them.
Alex will cut the records that are carved on the walls with Shukaku's ability and Cana will store them. Even cutting metals is easy for Shukaku because he has Magnet Release. It's just that he doesn't use it much and Alex is not smart enough to develop it on his own, so he mostly just uses Shukaku's ability to control sand and earth, not metal.
It takes the team a whole week to fully explore Nirvana. After all, this place is so big and there are many locations to check. They also need to get out once in a while to get sunlight and find more food because they don't have enough for a whole week, not with their big appetites.
Even so, they still don't know anything about anything they find. It's because everything is written in the Nirvits' language. They will need time to translate them because it will be like solving codes.
Still, Alex will try to solve them because there must be useful information among the records. He especially needs the method to absorb magic power directly from the Earth because he needs a lot of magic power to unseal the Tailed Beasts.
But he doesn't know who he can ask to help him translate the records. Roubaul will disappear soon after Nirvana is destroyed. Even if he gets a dictionary from Roubaul, translating the records will still not be easy.
Alex can only think of Levy and maybe Lucy for this kind of job. But they are still very young and haven't even joined the Guild. So he will need to find someone else, but he can think about that later because it's time to destroy Nirvana.
The team goes to the locations of every Lacrima crystal that powered-up this massive magic item. There are 8 Lacrima Crystals that powered-up Nirvana and each of them are located on top of each of Nirvana's 8 legs.
Nirvana has 8 legs in total and each leg can absorb magic power from the land. The absorbed magic power is stored in the lacrima crystals before being used to move the gigantic device.
In the story, they need to destroy all the lacrima crystals at the same time to stop Nirvana. Alex thought they wouldn't need to do it when Nirvana isn't active.
It turns out that they still need to do it because if a lacrima crystal is broken, Nirvana will automatically get activated as its defense mechanism. This is why this gigantic device wasn't destroyed yet after hundreds of years other than it being hidden so well.
The good thing is, Alex knows how to "destroy" all 8 lacrima crystals at the same time by himself. They don't have enough people to destroy them and Alex doesn't want to destroy them because he needs them.
Alex needs to absorb their magic power and that's what he will do. All 8 lacrima crystals are actually connected to another big lacrima crystal in the control room. Though this lacrima doesn't act as a power generator, just a device to control the other 8 Lacrima Crystals.
Still, it's connected well to all of them and Alex can use it to absorb the magic power stored inside all those 8 lacrima crystals. They will break automatically once he absorbs all of their magic power and it will destroy Nirvana.
He does just that and it works surprisingly well. It actually works so well that it becomes a problem. Nirvana's legs still actually absorb the magic power from the land even when it's not active. So it keeps absorbing magic power from the land when Alex is absorbing its magic power.
It would be a great thing because Alex can absorb as much magic power as he wants, if it's not for his limitation. No matter how much he just wants to absorb an infinite amount of magic power, Alex has a limit on the amount he can take and store in his body.
Sure, it will be used to break the Tailed Beasts' seals. But it doesn't mean he can take too much magic power at once. His body won't be able to hold if he takes too much magic power at once and it might make his body explode.
Fortunately, the smartest Tailed Beast he has now, Matatabi always can give him a solution. He transforms into Shukaku and takes control of the metal lines that connect the energy lacrimas with the control lacrima.
Alex can't control metal that well with Shukaku's Magnet Release, especially because the metal lines are very long and complex while he very rarely uses Shukaku's Magnet Release. So he needs to hand over the control of his magic to Shukaku for this.
"HAHAHA! SEEMS LIKE WE NEED TO TRAIN MAGNET RELEASE MORE AFTER THIS." Shukaku is excited at the thought of seeing Alex suffer from the hard training.
"Give me a break. I haven't even mastered most of your abilities. Learning from the 4 of you is already very difficult and there are still 5 more of you to learn from."
"But it is still an important ability to learn. So you need to learn them sooner or later. The sooner you learn it, the better it will be." Matatabi surprisingly supports Shukaku. Even Isobu and Son Goku agree because there might be more situations that need the use of Magnet Release.
"Fine, fine. We can think about it later, let's focus on this for now."
Shukaku who takes control of Alex's magic is also controlling the magic power absorption. He is unusually serious now because a slight mistake can kill all of them. If he absorbs too much, it will destroy Alex's body which will also kill all 9 of them too, so he needs to be careful.

There is a giant blue energy ball floating in the dark place. It's the magic power that has been absorbed from Nirvana. There are some streams connecting it to the 5 seal orbs as the sealed Tailed Beasts are absorbing the magic power to break the seal, but it's a slow process because the seals are very hard and complicated to break.
That's why the unused magic power is stored in Alex's soul realm and that's why there's a limit on how much he can absorb at once. The Tailed Beasts know that they've reached their limit, so Goku tells Shukaku to stop.
As soon as Goku shouts at him to stop, Shukaku immediately controls the metal lines that connect to the 8 lacrima crystals to destroy them. He turns those metal lines into weapons to stab the 8 lacrima crystals at the same time.
After the 8 lacrima crystals are destroyed at the same time, Shukaku also destroys the control lacrima to make sure Nirvana can't be activated even though it's not necessary.
Anyway, with the 8 lacrima crystals that generate energy into Nirvana destroyed, the gigantic device starts to crumble. A big part of the forest ground collapses when the buried Nirvana is destroyed and Alex's team is also buried by the collapsed ground.
But a while later, a big ball of sand suddenly emerges from the collapsed area. It opens up and reveals the young Mages that have no scratch on their skin. Shukaku protects them as soon as Nirvana starts crumbling, so they are not hurt at all, and with this, their job is finished.
