Although meeting Sherlock Holmes in this universe was a surprise, and one that had at least one upside, it caused Selene to think deeply about the nature of the derived worlds.
Were they the product of the collective imagination of hundreds of thousands of 'real' universes, or were they universes broadcasting information into the void to be picked up by a person in tune? Was each author a receiver of information, or a creator not fully aware of its power?
"What a pain in the ass," Selene said, slapping her face as she realized something significant: she was not an intellectual.
8 intelligence points may sound like you're a genius, but intelligence has almost nothing to do with IQ, or at least very little to do with it. It has more to do with spirit or consciousness, so she felt her mental state was much less bleak than when she arrived here.
"Whatever the nature of the off-worlds, the void, and everything else, what does it have to do with me? I want to survive," the green-haired girl muttered as she performed a complicated yoga pose.
Yes, even if she longed to explore, to fight, to have fun, or to meet the girls of the omniverse, there was one thing she couldn't change: she had to survive! So she took the training Baron Zeppeli was giving her very seriously.
While Jojo was submerged in water to train his endurance, she was doing complicated yoga poses under the auspices of her teacher. Why? Because flexibility was something she excelled at, especially when it came to controlling her body.
How could Zeppeli not notice? So he adapted the conditioning methods of a Hamon user to the postures Selene could perform, and though many of them required the power of the waves, the girl had her way.
"This energy is so... strange," Zeppeli said as he watched Selene play with a red light emanating from her hand.
This light was constantly distorting under the woman's will, even when she performed complicated postures that would cause serious harm to anyone, her duty was to be able to control this power even in uncomfortable or strange situations.
Zeppeli could feel the dark nature of this power, how could she not? It was the opposite of sunlight, but he didn't think much about it, except for some basic applications he could think of.
"If you control this energy like any of your limbs, try to test its nature and effects under certain circumstances. Hamon, for example, not only allows you to heal or revitalize, but it also allows you to walk on water or create magnetic phenomena.
This kind of thing makes you wonder: why does the power of the sun have such abilities? But while today's scientists debate whether light is a wave or a particle, the Hamon Masters have known for millennia that light is multifaceted, plural, and singular at the same time.
Wave-particle, particle-wave. An accomplished Hamon user will have some special abilities due to this special understanding, my master can see the 'light of the future' in some cases..." Zeppeli said in a bewitching tone of voice, causing Selene to fall into a trance.
The Hamon is so strange? I didn't know that the Spin, for example, can generate infinite energy and cross dimensions, although its essence is simply 'spinning'. So would her Moonlight do anything other than crystallize, or be a conduit for her abilities?
Under her trance, she seemed to see a huge blood moon, but this time she didn't faint as before, she simply watched from a first-person perspective as 'her body' controlled her energy to make... changes.
The sun is immutable and unchanging, it will always be that big golden ball of light in the sky that rises every day. But the moon will change throughout the month, having different facets.
That's why her Moonlight could manifest illusionary or dark abilities because it represented that change. But the moon is also cold, dim, and a guide. This revelation was somewhat confusing to her, and she couldn't quite grasp it, yet she felt she had benefited greatly.
As she came out of the trance, her body settled and she looked down at her hands and saw that the crystallization of her energy, something that had been somewhat difficult for her before, was now much smoother.
Her right hand was covered in a layer of red crystal, it was messy, but with a little more mastery, it could do amazing things. On a whim, the red crystal in her hand dissolved and rearranged itself into a cross, and as it did so, a very sinister smile appeared on her face.
She had found a perfect vessel for the skills she was practicing. Who would have thought? While others were masters of sword, scythe, or bow, she would fight with crosses as if she were a Belmont.
"That's a nice cross, are you Catholic?" asked Jonathan, who had come out of the water and was walking around.
Seeing his strange appearance, and ignoring his wet, scarred muscles, Selene couldn't help but think that the Jesus of this world was not only real but seemed to have a strange connection to the Joestar family.
"No, but I feel like a cross is much easier to turn into the bearer of some natural abilities I possess. And I didn't want to fall into the cliché of using energy balls, it's already well worn," Selene said, causing Jonathan to scratch the back of his neck, not quite understanding what his companion was saying.
To him, Selene was a beautiful person, even very nice, but she said a lot of strange things, seemed to have no common sense, acted strangely, and had a rather unnatural hair color.
Still, she gave him some ideas on how to use the Hamon without even knowing how to use it, using steel balls tied together. He had never thought that such a sacred energy could be used in such a childish way, but strangely enough, it suited his strength very well.
"That's good! Erina liked the story you created with the illusion, too bad it didn't have sound," Jonathan commented, remembering what the blonde girl had told him earlier.
Selene had started practicing her illusion skills first, because dealing with the curses and disadvantages section required a lot more exploration than she had expected, at least she already had a suitable carrier for those skills.
The most she could do was small illusionary creations, just very small three-dimensional images, like a doll's house, but it served her well to act out some classic tales.
Not only did it serve as practice, but it allowed Selene to vent her troubled emotions, create some non-acting illusions for minors in her privacy, and cause certain pages to lose a visitor permanently.
"Yes, but it's not very useful against beings with heightened senses, I doubt it would fool a vampire like Dio Brando," Selene complained, sitting down on the floor.
The girl began picking blades of grass carelessly, even though the final confrontation was only a day away, she wasn't sure she could defeat Dio. Yes, against his minions she could sweep, but no one knew that.
What if Dio allowed another vampire to join him? No one could stop him from using the Stone Mask on someone as skilled as himself. If there was one thing Dio was good at, it was taking something basic and turning it into something extraordinary.
In a short time as a vampire, he developed abilities that would make the Pillar Men jealous, like freezing. With the Stands, he created a way to essentially transcend and become a god. Not everyone can do something so drastic with their gifts.
You could say that he would be the main character if it weren't for the name 'Jojo'. Perhaps sensing her dejected mood, Zeppeli approached her and crouched down close to her.
"You shouldn't feel uncomfortable, your talents are amazing and will grow with time, and you're strong, you'll be able to help us with our mission," the attempt at consolation made Selene feel a little better.
She realized that her emotions were playing tricks on her, but thanks to the mental palace she had built under the guidance of the bastard Holmes, she was in a much better situation than she had been weeks ago.
"Yes, you can do a lot of amazing things that we can't, so don't feel bad," like the radiant sunshine he was, Jonathan's words were simple, but they made Selene feel better, causing the thoughts she had at the beginning to surface.
'It seems like they're more real than me, but that's why I want to survive... because I want to be real,' Selene's inner doubts seemed to vanish at that moment, and a genuine smile appeared on her face.
"Wow, it looks like you can smile," Jonathan said jokingly, noticing the change in the girl before him.
Zeppeli nodded at such a comment, for him the girl's smile told him one thing: the girl was indeed innocent. Selene had unknowingly put to rest the doubts the two warriors had about her.
The next day, under Erina's leadership, the group set out for the presumed location of Dio Brando. Something that may not have been shown much on the show was Dio's zombies, but Selene felt her leather go numb at the sight of the massive horde before her.
Did Dio spend his time making minions, flirting with and hypnotizing women, and creating new vampiric abilities? Why were there so many inferior zombies?
"Well, looks like we're going to have to go through these guys before we even get close, how insidious," Jonathan said with some discomfort as he realized all the lives that had been lost because of Dio.
"Young Jonathan, this is the unbridled power of the mask, which is why we must destroy it, lest our world be plunged into darkness. Miss Moon, would you do us the honor?" Zeppeli took off his hat and made an inviting gesture to Selene.
He had his reasons for doing so; firstly, the Horde was not that many and they were not at the center of Dio's activities, and secondly, he wanted Selene to test herself so that she would understand the true dimensions of her power. He would give her a few tips according to her situation, the same as he had planned for Jonathan.
Zeppeli felt that perhaps the death his teacher had prophesied was approaching and that this confrontation would undoubtedly be his end, so he wanted to do his best as a teacher to guide his students.
Jonathan and Selene were very different, one a warm sun, the other a dark moon, but both were good children. Under the eyes of the two men, Selene, who wore a nun's habit at their request, sighed before approaching the zombies, who reacted to her presence.
"Okay... let's try this," red energy surged from her hands and focused on them, crystallizing to form a pair of claws that looked truly dangerous.
Crouching like a cat before its prey, she waited for a zombie to come close enough to her to enter her attack range. She slashed forward, smashing the monster's head with ease, and to her surprise, it dropped a white treasure chest.
[Hunter's Talent: Essence Orb, has been activated]
[You have obtained: Vampiric Undead Essence (White)
[This is the first time you have killed an enemy, and the storage space (2 cubic meters) will be opened. After returning to the Reincarnation Paradise, the size of this space can be increased by using Paradise Coins and the appropriate level of authority].
'4 Lucky Points, an unlucky number for some, superior luck for me' Feeling that her attack hardly consumed any energy and that she could easily finish off these monsters, a mischievous smile appeared on her lips.
Putting down the treasure chest, she began to attack her enemies like a lioness, moving between them and smashing their heads with her crystal claws or well-placed kicks.
Her movements were a little stiff at first, perhaps from the excitement of the treasure boxes or the violent emotions released with each death, but her actions became more fluid.
"Now I understand Madara! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" she shouted, laughing out loud, while all the accompanying duo saw were constant flashes of red, body parts, and a girl with green hair going mad.
"I see, women are really dangerous," concluded Jonathan, who decided to be much more gentlemanly with Erina from now on.
Zeppeli, on the other hand, remembered the woman he hadn't seen in so many years and felt that maybe it wasn't a good idea for him to accept his death so easily, or maybe she would beat him the day they met in the afterlife.
Amidst the laughter of an exhilarated girl, the group slowly approached their destination: Dio Brando.
