Chapter 4 - The First Step

Lumine sat beside me, cheerfully enjoying her breakfast. As usual, a bit of sauce clung to the corner of her tiny lips. I smiled and reached for a handkerchief to clean it off.

"Hehe, thank you, Papa," Lumi giggled softly, her innocence adding warmth to the morning.

After breakfast, our family followed a simple tradition: a casual chat at the dining table. It was our time to share stories, maintain communication, and enjoy each other's company. Topics could range from the mundane to the significant.

This morning, however, I felt it was time to address something important. As the conversation flowed, I decided to speak.

"Roland," I called, fixing my gaze on my son with a serious expression, "this might feel a bit early, but I want you to start taking on some responsibilities as the head of the family, especially regarding the management of our territory."

The room fell silent for a moment. All eyes were on me, particularly Roland's, whose initial surprise quickly turned into a serious expression.

"Why, Father? Does this have something to do with the idea you mentioned earlier?" he asked, furrowing his brow.

I nodded. "Yes. I feel that balancing my duties as head of the family and my... let's call it my pioneering mission, is too much for one person. That's why I want you to start learning early. Are you willing to help me?"

Without hesitation, Roland responded firmly, "Of course, Father. I'm willing."

A proud smile spread across my face. This was my eldest son—a reliable and capable young man.

"Good. Thank you. You can consult with Old Jenskin; he will guide you," I said. Old Jenskin, our loyal steward, had served the Carval family since my childhood. He was more than just a servant—he was a trusted advisor.

"Hm," Roland nodded, fully accepting the responsibility.

From the side, Myra smiled gently. "I'll also help guide him when needed," she said, offering her support.

"Thank you, Myra," I replied, lightly touching her hand under the table. It was a small gesture, but it conveyed my gratitude. She was my unwavering pillar of support in every situation.

The conversation continued, but Liora, who had been fidgeting for some time, finally interrupted. "Father, what is this idea you mentioned? Can you tell me now?"

I chuckled at her insatiable curiosity. "For now, it's still a secret," I said with a playful wink, making her sigh in frustration.

"But don't worry," I added, hoping to ease her curiosity, "in a week, I'll reveal the results to all of you."

Liora's face lit up slightly at that, but before she could press further, I added, "Oh, and Liora, come to my study tomorrow. There's something I want to discuss with you and get your help with."

Her golden eyes sparkled with excitement, and her broad smile brightened the room. "Of course, Father! I'll be there tomorrow!" she exclaimed enthusiastically.

Seeing their eagerness, I felt a renewed sense of confidence. My family was the foundation of my journey, and with them, I knew that any challenge would feel lighter. The first step had been taken, and I couldn't wait to see where this journey would lead us.
