Chapter 49 - Married For Eons

The day had arrived—an event that no one, least of all Kikidori, thought would ever happen. Flame Island, known for its harsh obsidian landscape and rivers of molten fire, had undergone a remarkable transformation. The dark, foreboding air of the island was replaced with an atmosphere of celebration. The outer-demons of Flame Island, typically chaotic and wild, had worked tirelessly to create a fitting venue for their leader's wedding.

The castle courtyard, normally surrounded by blackened rock and sulfuric smoke, was now lined with glowing crystals of all colors. The molten rivers reflected the shimmering hues, casting an otherworldly light across the grounds. A long obsidian aisle stretched from the castle steps to a large altar carved from volcanic glass. Flowers, somehow growing despite the hostile environment, adorned the area, their vibrant petals adding a stark contrast to the dark backdrop.

Outer-demons of all shapes and sizes gathered in the courtyard, their wild forms unusually subdued for the occasion. They were here for Kikidori, their leader, their god, and they wouldn't dare cause any disruptions on this day.

High above, the skies shimmered as a host of angels descended from Heaven. They arrived in radiant beams of light, their golden wings glowing as they gracefully landed in the courtyard. They were there for Ere'ana, the beloved Archangel who had somehow managed to tame the untameable Kikidori.

The two groups eyed each other warily, tension lingering in the air. Outer-demons and angels were natural enemies, but today was a truce—a momentary pause in the eternal conflict.

At the center of it all stood Kikidori, dressed in ceremonial armor crafted from the finest obsidian and brimstone. His dark wings were folded behind him, and his piercing crimson eyes scanned the crowd with a mixture of irritation and unease. Cerberus, his ever-loyal Chihuahua, perched proudly on his shoulder, his tiny chest puffed out as if he understood the significance of the occasion.

Kikidori shifted uncomfortably, his fingers fidgeting with the edges of his armor. "Why did I agree to this?" he muttered under his breath, his voice laced with a mixture of annoyance and nerves.

Cerberus yipped in response, as if to reassure him.

The sound of celestial music filled the air, a harmonious blend of angelic harps and demonic drums. It was an unusual combination, but somehow, it worked—a perfect representation of the union being celebrated.

The music grew louder, signaling the arrival of the bride. All eyes turned toward the castle steps as Ere'ana emerged, radiant and glowing like the dawn. She wore a gown spun from light itself, the fabric shimmering with golden threads that seemed to dance as she moved. Her wings were unfurled, their white feathers gleaming in the fiery light of Flame Island.

As she descended the steps, her golden eyes locked onto Kikidori, and her lips curved into a soft, loving smile. Kikidori's breath hitched, though he quickly masked his reaction with a scowl.

Ere'ana reached the altar and stood before him, her hands clasped in front of her. "You look… stunning," she said softly, her voice filled with emotion.

Kikidori huffed, his cheeks darkening slightly. "You look alright, I guess."

Cerberus barked, wagging his tail as if to chastise Kikidori for his lack of enthusiasm.

The officiant, an ancient being who was neither angel nor demon, stepped forward. His voice was deep and resonant, carrying the weight of eons. "Today, we gather to witness a union that transcends realms, a bond between light and darkness, Heaven and Flame Island. Kikidori, god of the outer-demons, and Ere'ana, Archangel of Heaven, stand before us to pledge their eternal love."

The crowd fell silent as the officiant continued, his words weaving a tale of love, redemption, and unity.

"Kikidori," he said, turning to the fallen angel. "Do you vow to stand by Ere'ana, to protect her, to cherish her, and to love her, even in the face of eternity?"

Kikidori shifted awkwardly, his crimson eyes glancing at Ere'ana. "Yeah, sure," he said, his tone gruff. "I mean, yes. I do."

The crowd chuckled softly, and Ere'ana rolled her eyes, though her smile never wavered.

"And Ere'ana," the officiant said, turning to the Archangel. "Do you vow to stand by Kikidori, to support him, to guide him, and to love him, even when he's being… difficult?"

Ere'ana laughed softly, her eyes shining. "I do."

The officiant nodded and extended his hands. "Then, by the power vested in me by the realms of Heaven and Flame Island, I now pronounce you—"

"Wait," Kikidori interrupted, holding up a hand.

The crowd gasped, and Ere'ana looked at him in surprise. "What is it?"

Kikidori hesitated, his wings twitching nervously. "I just… I wanted to say something first."

The officiant stepped back, giving Kikidori the floor.

Kikidori took a deep breath, his voice steady but uncharacteristically soft. "Ere'ana, I'm not good at this kind of thing. You know that. I don't do feelings, or romance, or any of that mushy stuff. But… you've changed me. You've shown me that maybe, just maybe, I'm not as terrible as I think I am. You've seen the worst parts of me and stayed anyway. So, yeah, I do. I'll stand by you. Forever."

Ere'ana's eyes filled with tears, and she reached out to take his hands in hers.

The officiant smiled and nodded. "Then, by the power vested in me by the realms of Heaven and Flame Island, I now pronounce you bound for eternity. You may seal your vows."

Kikidori leaned forward hesitantly, his lips brushing against Ere'ana's in a kiss that sent a ripple of energy through the crowd. The outer-demons cheered, their wild cries echoing through the island, while the angels sang a harmonious chorus that filled the skies.

Cerberus barked joyfully, wagging his tail so hard that he nearly fell off Kikidori's shoulder.

As the newlyweds turned to face their audience, the unlikely union between Heaven and Flame Island was complete—a symbol of love and redemption that would be remembered for eternity.
