As Winter took one more step closer, Hugo reflexively put his hands behind him, pressing against the wall.
The elevator doors had closed tightly at some point. The elevator, with no button pressed, remained stopped on the first floor.
Hugo slowly opened his mouth. A low, heavy voice flowed out.
"What are you doing?"
There was a considerable height difference between the two, so Hugo had to lower his head significantly to look at Winter's face.
Winter just stared up at Hugo with clear, sharp eyes, giving no answer.
As the elevator continued to remain stopped, the brightly lit lights dimmed automatically.
A suffocating silence fell. Only the sound of the ventilation fan turning somewhere in the ceiling could be heard faintly.
Under the dim light, the woman's lips moved slightly.
"...I'm back."
Hugo unconsciously leaned his head slightly closer to Winter's pink lips.
Winter whispered softly in his ear.
"I've returned."
