Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: The Unpleasant Reunion

Third person POV:

High school life is fun and adventurous. In this time of life, we meet a lot of people who become important sections of our lives. Some people we meet become blessings and others curses. This life teaches us to let go of somethings and safeguard ourselves from the 'curses' because not everyone who dives into our lives is meant to stay.

....~....

"Kristine! Kristine!" A dirt-blonde short girl ran to the elegant blonde as she neared the stairs while running. The elegant blonde stood in agitation to the latter's actions.

"What? Why shout my name all throughout the campus?" The dirt-blonde short youth minded not the outburst instead concentrated on catching her breath. After a while when she was sure she's calm, she spoke her reason of the fault she made.

"Kristine girl, listen before you grill me in the pan." Her smirk was evident as though she held a trophy. Kristine just beaconed her to continue reluctantly. "What!" Shock was plastered allover her face when the piece of news was broken to her. "Are you damn serious? but how can it be?"

Birds whistling was a melodious sound heard from the other part of Kielen Province as a beauty with silk black hair walked down a bushy yard. She stood occasionally and sniffed the air surrounding her. Peace was allover her beautiful high cheek bone face. Her grey eyes sparkled in the calm rays illuminating through the sycamore tree that towered over her in superiority and friendship.

"I missed you too Freddy." She whispered to the sycamore tree with her gentle voice and soft peach lips. She descended further to the farm that was engulfed in climbing plants. This made her sigh softly and thought to herself how she had a lot of cleaning and repairing to do.

Scrubbing the floor, trimming the plants, slashing the yard and grooming the tulips, she rested for the day and resumed the next day. In the middle of the night, the belle had not a whit of good dreams, all she could see was blood dripping from her mother's face.

"Mom!" The grey eyed belle awoke in panic screaming out. She jolted out of bed and decided to continue cleaning the homestead.

"I guess i have to earn money to buy horses again." She spoke painfully as she recalled a painful incident in her life.

.....Flashback....

"Mom why can't we keep them. I don't want to let them go. Look at George, Steffy and Mildren. They all want to stay with us. Mom let's take them with us. Please!"

"I am sorry Michan. We can't take them even though I want. Atleast we are selling them to Mr. Edmond, he will surely take care of them." Pranella tried to soothe her daughter but tears could not seem to stop as the pain she felt had nothing to pacify it.

The horses and cows were sold eventually as no other option was left. Young Michan cried the whole night as they traveled to the other province to settle peacefully.

"Mom, did you sell the farm house too and the barn?" Young Michan asked pitifully. Pranella smiled wryly and smothered her silk hair as she answered. "No dear. How could I? It's yours and will always be your home. I have no right upon it and even though I had, I would keep it for you." She pecked her daughter on the forehead as she slipped into slumber.

...End of flash back.....

She sighed and whispered to herself. "I am back home." Trimming the back of the farm house, she was finally done with the house makeover. Michan glided into the house slowly and cleaned up then dressed in a cute soft pastel black sweater, loose white jeans and sealed her outfit with dark grey suede ankle boots. She placed on simple stud earrings enough to make her dressing simple but cool and beautiful. That evening, Michan made grocery shopping as well as wardrobe arranging. She had to prepare for campus.

Michan was a beautiful stunning beauty not only in look but also brains. She had acquired a full time scholarship for the best university in the country which is located in Kielen Province. unknown to her, Kristine was also part of this university. Michan had topped her previous university and was the best student in her high school throughout the whole province.

"Hey! Watch out were u a going!" A smug played on the offender's face. "What if I don't want to watch out?" The statement by the short dirt-blonde caught Michan off-guard. "What?" At the momentous epoch, an elegant blonde walked in.

"Sophia, don't make it hard for my new friend here." She spoke but Michan could see right through it that she meant none of her words. This was Kristine whom she knew wholly what she could do. A year of her bullying taught her. What turned Kristine into her bully is still a mystery to her till date.

"Kristine, you don't need to look out for me. I can handle myself. And before I forget, Sophia? Yea Sophia it is. Listen well Sophia, if you ever want to play games on me, be my guest to turn your dirt-blonde to fiery red in hot flames. I hope am clear. This is no longer middle school." With the taunting statements, Michan walked away in her steady elegant strides.

"How dare she? Kristine we have to do something." Sophia sounded really hurt by the words or rather threats. "But you dark head, don't you learn?" A stern voice sounded from the corner. Walking out of the corner, was another unique beauty with coffee brown hair same as her hair, pale red lips, semi-centimeter thick eyebrows and a long neck. She had fire in her eyes. Kristine stopped Sophia from provoking the beauty any further as Sophia was beginning to spit out taunts.

"But why do you tell us to leave her Kristine? Is she anything special?" Kristine's friends could not understand why she always stopped them from playing any games or pranks on the retreating beauty. "The day you will find out who she is, you will do the same as me." That's all Kristine could offer as an answer to her confused friends.

Who was she, is the question that remained in Kristine's friends' minds.

"Hey you there! Come join me." the previous stern voice, now calm friendly voice called Michan breaking her from her thoughts of how unpleasant the events turned on her first day at campus. Michan walked slowly and stood beside her as she seemed engrossed in looking at something. "What are you looking at?" Michan asked in perplexion as she could not see anything special where the latter was looking. Silence was the answer that she received for about half an hour. Surprisingly, Michan remained there beside the latter.

"Why did you stay? I did not answer you hence a cold shoulder I have given you. Why did you choose to stay?" Michan smiled at the query and sighed softly.

"I did not stay because of you because yes you have been rude but I chose to stay because you called me to your spot of peace and calm." The answer sparked off the beginning of these two's friendship.

"I am Danielle though you can call me Danie."

"I am Michan, Michan Rhodes." Danie replied with a sheepish smile. "I know who you are."

"You do? But how?"

"Do you know that your actions have made you Mrs. Thompson? Are you ready to face what it means to be my wife? The wedding night is tonight." He spoke firmly with a smirk on his face.

"No. I have only got married to you to stop shame from happening today not because I want to be your wife. After today, look for your real wife and free me, okay?"

She continued with slight bitterness evident in her lovely voice, "By the way, if you remember well, this is our first time to meet again after that day. It has been two years now. So that only means no strings attached not even friendship."

He clenched his jaws and answered with the same tone and spirit. "So why did you save this no body from shame?"

"I did it for your sister who was so great to me back then. I could not afford her going through all the worry because of some irresponsible girlfriend of yours. Do you get me?"

Reaching the reception, a marvelous spellbinding spectacular lay in their sight. The dazzling chandeliers emitted enchanting accent lights in the rich green decor creating a fairy-tale ambiance. Inhaling the scents in the air, one could tell that white roses, lavender scents and jasmines scents were accomplices in making the air fresh and cool.

"Oh my God! This is splendid and calm.It must have been your sister's hand work." She smiled as she surveyed the reception in a look and finally her eyes returned to the dazzling creature dazzling more than the chandelier light; the groom.

"Yeah indeed it must be her hand work."

The two unintentionally locked their eyes with each other's and the time seemed to stop as none of them was ready to break the connection. The two pairs of eyes, grey and dark coffee pairs, evoked to be communicating something alien to the owners themselves as breaking away from each other's gaze resulted impossible. It was magical as it entangled the couple in a warm ethereal glow amidst the greenery environment surrounding them.

Will this marriage work? A marriage of convenience with an unpleasant reunion.
