Grayson went to meet his friends on Saturday and when he came back during the evening, he walked into the livingroom and found her seated. "I need to freshen up then we can watch."
"Okay!"
He looked at her weirdly and knew that she had answered way too enthusiastically.
He came back, and they began to watch, Grayson noticed she was now relaxed, and she was breaking out her shell.
She was laughing more and very expressive.
"Now you can laugh. I guess you're a bit used to me now."
Her cheeks became red. "Yes, I suppose." She answered insecurely.
He could tell that she was now self-aware, and that was not his intention. Next time he would keep it to herself.
"Now you're back with the robotic voice."
"I don't mean to."
He was actually curious if she was always this way, and why?
"Obviously not. Have you always been this socially awkward?"
"Yes...β¦."
"How many friends have you had?"
"None."
He was surprised that she had no-one in her life to hang out or talk to.
"Not even a close friend?"
"No, not at all."
"Why?"
"No-one wants to be my friend."
"Makes sense with the way you act. Can't you change?"
"But you said I should not apologize for being me."
Grayson smirked, he actually appreciated having a conversation with someone who truly paid attention and did not just listen to answer, most of all she had heeded his advice, "That is right, glad to be talking to someone who actually listens and are not just airheads."
She just nodded.
"That is sad still and you don't have looks working in your favour, too."
"I know."
He also noticed as to how she agreed so readily any negatives that he said,
"But you have good brains."
"Thank you."
"But it seems as if you have been slacking these days."
"I'm still on top of my school work."
"I know, but seems as if you're distracted and tired."
"Is the work that I'm doing not good enough for you? I'm sorry!"
He was taken aback by how she was panicking and over doing his work,
"Calm down, I never said that."
"Oh, okay."
"I have never seen someone apologize for doing someone's work. You're truly something, you know."
"Oh...."
"You are very different from what I have known my whole life."
He also meant it, she was something new in his life,
"Is it bad?"
"I don't know, just strange."
"I see."
"You don't have to always grasp for negatives you know"
He saw her look up and her face lit up, and he was taken aback. He got up and decided to call it for the night.
He now sat with his friends and out of nowhere he remembered Dawn's smile, why was he thinking of that and at this time?
He was just tired, and that is why he was remembering that shit. He put it out his mind and carried on talking to his friends.
Now he sat in class and noticed that Dawn's head was resting on her hand as she stared outside. Then she turned, and he did not look away, he didn't give a shit. Her eyes widened and looked away immediately.
He did not know why he was analyzing her, must have been just mere curiosity, as she was different from any person that he knew.
He was also tired, which could also contribute to all of this bullshit that he was doing.
Days went by and Dawn was getting more and more burnt out. Between school, cleaning and the restaurant, she was drowning.
She smiled when she remembered Grayson looking at her or had he had zoned out. That was the reason he had stared at her.
Regardless of what had happened, she would think about it for a while. The sad thing about these days was the fact that she could not see Grayson as much as she would like.
Even though at times he was not at home, she could chance seeing him, but now that she was fully busy, that was rare.
The only time she would see him was at school, but she would not stare at him as he did not want anyone to know that she lived with him or rouse any suspicious behaviour.
Even though most girls stared at Grayson, she would stand out as everyone thought she was creepy in a sense and she was sure that Grayson would not want to be associated with her.
"Grayson, why have you not done your work? You have been doing so well these days."
Dawn's eyes widened. She had completely forgotten to do his work, he would be angry with her, probably.
She avoided looking at him, but could see him from her peripheral vision,
He shrugged. "I did not feel like it."
"Detention after school."
"Dawn?"
"I forgot mine at home."
"I did not expect this from you."
"Sorry mam."
"I will let you off the hook."
"Then I'm also not going." Grayson replied.
"Fine, Dawn detention after school."
Her eyes widened as she looked at Grayson, who just chuckled and knew it was because of her facial expression.
Now seated at detention, she was the first one there. She lay on her arms and was grateful for being able to rest a bit.
