Skylar barely had a second to react before the tech mogul's security detail began closing in-precise, coordinated movements, trained professionals, not some hired muscle. The grand ballroom that had been filled with elegant chatter and clinking glasses felt suffocating. A chandelier above cast fractured light across the marble floor as the hunt began.
"We need to move. Now," Julian's voice crackled in her earpiece. "They're onto you."
"Yeah, no kidding," Skylar muttered under her breath, slipping behind a tall floral arrangement. The sleek black gown Julian had so thoughtfully provided for the gala was now less disguise than obstacle.
"Security's shifting toward the east exit. If you go now, you might make it."
