I gripped the steering wheel tighter as it came into view-the compound at which the council had tucked away Julian deep and guarded. Our mission was about to go live: Jasper and I were to break him out. The tension between us the whole night did not allow utterances of either of us to prevail, there was no time to dwell. 

"Sky, you're sure about this?" Jasper questioned, his tone softer than his usual.

I let out a sharp breath. "We don't have a choice. Julian's in there because of me. I'm not leaving without him."

Jasper ran a hand through his hair, hesitating. "You know I—" He cut himself off. "Never mind. Let's do this."

We'd dumped the car a few blocks away, slid through the shadows to the edge of the compound. Jasper dropped a guard silently with a quick chokehold; I took down the cameras-a hacked signal off Julian's own gear. Poetic justice-getting him with his own technology.
