Chapter 10: The Gathering Storm
Months have passed since Yuuto began uniting the tribes. His growing nation, now named Hi no Kuni (Land of Fire), thrives under his leadership. The tribes have contributed their unique strengths to the growing society, from agriculture and craftsmanship to military prowess. However, as Hi no Kuni expands, it draws the attention of more powerful neighbors who see its rapid growth as a threat.

A Stranger in the Night
One evening, as Yuuto oversees the training of a new militia, a scout returns to the capital with urgent news. The scout, out of breath and pale-faced, kneels before Yuuto.
"My lord," the scout begins, "a group of armed strangers has been spotted near our eastern border. They carry advanced weapons, unlike anything we've seen before."
Yuuto's brow furrows. "How many?"
"About fifty, my lord. They're well-organized, moving with precision. They don't seem like raiders."
Yuuto's mind races. Advanced weapons and organized soldiers could only mean one thing: an outside power has taken notice of Hi no Kuni.
"Double the patrols along the eastern border," Yuuto commands. "I want eyes on them at all times. If they approach any closer, send word immediately."
"Yes, my lord," the scout replies before hurrying off.

A Dangerous Proposition
The next day, Yuuto calls a council meeting with his closest advisors: Sena, Haruto, and a warrior leader named Daiki. Together, they discuss the potential threat.
"We don't know their intentions," Haruto says, leaning over the map of the region. "They could be scouts for a larger force, or perhaps they're here to intimidate us."
"Regardless of their reason, we must prepare for the worst," Daiki adds, his tone grim. "Our militia is strong, but we're no match for advanced weaponry."
Sena, ever the strategist, speaks up. "We need more information. If they're willing to talk, we might be able to learn their purpose—and possibly turn them into allies."
Yuuto nods. "I'll lead the negotiations myself. If they come in peace, we'll welcome them. But if they come with ill intent..." His eyes narrow, a flicker of fire dancing in his gaze. "We'll show them the strength of Hi no Kuni."

A Meeting on Neutral Ground
Yuuto arranges to meet the strangers on neutral ground near the border. He takes Haruto and Sena with him, along with a small escort of warriors. As they approach the designated meeting point, they see the strangers: fifty heavily armed men and women, clad in leather armor reinforced with strange, metallic plates. Their leader, a tall, broad-shouldered man with piercing blue eyes, steps forward.
"I am Captain Elias, envoy of the Kingdom of Zerynthia," the man announces. "We've come to this land seeking trade and alliances. Your rapid expansion has not gone unnoticed."
Yuuto steps forward, keeping his posture calm but authoritative. "I am Yuuto, leader of Hi no Kuni. We welcome those who come in peace, but we will not tolerate threats. State your purpose plainly."
Elias smirks. "Straight to the point. I like that. Zerynthia is a powerful kingdom, and we see potential in your nation. We wish to establish a trade agreement. In exchange for your resources—particularly your metals and timber—we can provide advanced weapons and tools."
The offer is tempting, but Yuuto senses an ulterior motive. "And what does Zerynthia gain from this arrangement?"
Elias's smile fades slightly. "Let's just say having Hi no Kuni as an ally ensures stability in this region. We wouldn't want unnecessary... complications."
---
A Fiery Display
Yuuto knows a veiled threat when he hears one. He steps closer to Elias, his eyes blazing with determination. "Hi no Kuni does not bow to threats. If Zerynthia seeks a genuine alliance, we will consider it. But if you come to subjugate us, know this: fire consumes all who underestimate it."
To emphasize his point, Yuuto raises his hand, summoning a roaring flame that hovers above his palm. The display of power sends a ripple of shock through the Zerynthian soldiers, some reaching for their weapons. Elias, however, remains calm, though his eyes narrow in cautious respect.
"A bold leader, I see," Elias says. "Very well. We'll take your words back to our king. But remember, fire can also be extinguished."
With that, the Zerynthians retreat, leaving Yuuto and his advisors to ponder the encounter.

The Calm Before the Storm
Back in the capital, Yuuto gathers his council to discuss the next steps. While the Zerynthians have temporarily withdrawn, it's clear that Hi no Kuni must prepare for the possibility of conflict. Yuuto orders the construction of fortifications along the eastern border and accelerates the training of the militia.
Sena approaches Yuuto later that evening. "Do you think they'll come back?"
"Yes," Yuuto replies, gazing into the horizon. "And when they do, we'll be ready."
As the people of Hi no Kuni work tirelessly to strengthen their defenses, a storm brews on the horizon. The Zerynthians are just the beginning. Yuuto's journey as the Fire Deity of Hi no Kuni is far from over.
