"We're in," Lysandra said, her voice echoing in the vast space. "Now what?"
Adam opened his system interface. The anchor fragments in his inventory reacted immediately, their energy resonating with the Nexus. A new notification appeared, accompanied by a sharp chime.

As they moved toward the platform, the temperature in the chamber dropped suddenly, and the hum of energy grew louder. Adam's hand instinctively went to his blade.
Kaelith's sharp eyes scanned the surroundings. "We're not alone."

Kaelith moved like a shadow, her daggers targeting the joints of a second guardian. Lysandra provided cover from a distance, her arrows imbued with stunning energy that briefly halted the constructs' movements.
"These things are tough!" Kaelith shouted, narrowly avoiding a projectile launched by one of the guardians.
Adam activated his simulation ability, his mind flooding with potential strategies. The constructs were heavily armored but had exposed cores in their chests—a clear weak point.
"Go for the cores!" he yelled. "That's their weak spot!"
The battle intensified as more guardians emerged. Adam's Ember Core blade ignited, its flames searing through one construct's chest. Kaelith's daggers found their mark, piercing another's core with precision. Lysandra's arrows rained down, shattering the remaining guardians with relentless accuracy.
Finally, the last guardian fell, its shattered core emitting a faint hiss before it deactivated.

"Is it me, or are these missions getting nastier?" Kaelith muttered, wiping sweat from her brow.

They placed the anchor fragments on the pedestals, each one slotting into place with a resonant chime. The chamber shuddered, and beams of light shot upward, connecting the pedestals to a massive central column of energy.

The air around them warped, and the chamber shifted. Walls elongated and contracted, and the ground beneath their feet rippled like water. Adam felt a strange pull, as if reality itself were unraveling.

"Temporal distortions," Adam said through gritted teeth. "The Nexus is testing us."
Figures began to materialize in the distortions—phantoms of players, enemies, and even allies from Adam's past. They attacked without warning, their movements erratic and unpredictable.
"This isn't real," Lysandra said, firing at a phantom that dissolved on impact. "They're illusions!"
"Tell that to the pain," Kaelith shot back, dodging a phantom's strike.
Adam's Steal ability activated instinctively, targeting one of the phantoms.
