I and Cal waited in the hospital's lobby and somehow I just noticed him stealing glances and smiling sheepishly. That look is definitely lüstful but right now is not a good time to flïrt, jeez! We ought to be panicking and hoping Annie makes it out alive but here is Cal, smiling and stealing glances.
"Why are you doing this?"
I decided to ask him since he wouldn't stop stealing glances.
"Doing what?"
"looking at me and smiling"
He burst into laughter, "You just amaze me in a way, we have a lot to discuss, remember I told you that."
"Yeah, should we start the discussion now?"
"No, of course not in a hospital"
One of the nurses came and distracted us, "She's awake now and insisting on seeing the both of you"
Cal looked at me again, of course, I was nervous. "You do not need to be scared about anything, it was self-defense that led to an accident, okay?"
"Okay," I said and felt so little and somewhat helpless.
We went into Annie's room and there she was, her hair had been shaved off and she had a bandage behind her head, I felt like laughing for a moment but, how stüpid would I be? She glared at me as I approached her and Cal held my hands to worsen it all.
"Gold dïgger," she said gently as she sat properly. "I don't even need you anywhere around my territory, bãstard! You're fired!"
"Calm down Annie, you will hurt yourself more if you scream," Cal said
She burst into tears, "This girl is êvil. She wants me dêad, she practically hit my head against the wall till I passed out, and…"
"Annie…. I called Jake already, he will come over here and take care of you"
"I want you to take care of me, Cal. I don't want Jake. You can fill in for Jake, Jake isn't good at taking care of a sïck person"
"I'm sorry Annie, I…"
"You would rather be with that b*tch right?"
Cal looked at me and back at her, I wasn't surprised but he dãmn was.
"What do you mean, Annie!"
"I've got the swag, the money, the love to give. Just be mine" Annie said, I felt really irritated hearing her say something like that in a hospital gown, with a bald head and bandage.
"I'm sorry, Annie. I am not into older women"
I felt so glad when he said that, I just didn't want to be a part of this conversation because I feel too guilty for putting Annie in this position already.
"Haha! So what kind of women are you into? Maids like Sidney?"
"I never said that"
"That's great then" Annie gave me this annoying look that made me want to pull her hair, but I remembered that she didn't have any hair to be pulled, maybe I would pull her brows.
"She's not a maid" Cal finally said and I looked at him, like does he know what he is saying? I am a maid, a certified one. "At least not anymore, you fïired her"
"She will surely look for another maid job"
"Would you?" Cal said looking at me, I was dumbfounded, what kind of question was that? He kept looking at me and expecting a reply?
"I… I…" I didn't know what to say because what else would I do with my life if not to continue to work? At least to keep busy"
"She definitely would! She is helpless, she…"
"If you would, Sidney, can you do me the pleasure of working for me?"
I gave a wry laugh, an unbelievable one. What are these two doing? Using me to catch a cruise?
"You're hired, Sidney. Let's go. I need to show you around the house" he pulled me and took me out of the room. I am sure Annie's jaw dropped in astonishment but my jaws did more than drop. Is he really going to hire me or he just said that to prove a point? Time will tell because he was quiet all through the ride to his house.
